Based on the credentials of the witness, can we rule out a dog or cat?

as soon as you mentioned "how small " it was it had to be a weasel mate like previous post says a stoat is ferret size -amazing creatures

Stoats are little hedgerow chavs! If you upset them they'll bolt out, shout a load of abuse at you and then leg it. Got to admire them. Had weasels display the same level of thuggery only from the safety of a rabbit's bolt hole, firing out venomously and retreating.

weasels are really vole and mouse hunters, so are small enough to squeeze down tiny holes. stoats are designed for bigger prey, so are ferret-sized. easy to tell once you have seen a few, but can be tricky if you havent

Probably a weasel then. Both lots of pics looked the same to me and my old eyes. :icon_redface:

weasles are very much smaller than stoats, the biggest weasle ive ever had has been smaller than the smallest bitch stoat!

its said that a weasle can fit thru a ladies wedding ring.and i can well belive it ive caught them not much thicker than my thumb.

yet ive had dog stoats almost as mig as a mink...

if it was real small it was likely a weasle if it was only small then it was likely a stoat

The "orangyness" of the fur along with the small size make it a weasle. At a glance a stoat is more brown and a weasle more orangey brown.

Just to complicate things there are only stoats over here in Ireland but for some reason they are known as weasels, just as a stone wall is called a ditch.

Bloody towney lol,,,weasels have a very short tail,,,the stoats tail is longer the same length as a small slim ferret,,,,and as said the stoats tail is black for about the last third...

If it's close enough long enough it's easy to tell them apart,,,b

Both creatures are great to watch,,,and all the times I've watched stoats hunt,,,I'm amazed at there tenacity ,,,amazing little creatures,,,

Strangely enough my dogs will hunt them ,they know the difference between ferrets and stoats,,,,but I don't like killing them so discourage the dogs from getting them

he be asking you what's a ferret next lol
