Now I don't normally use this kind of language on here but.... I implore you to forgive the lack of gratitude, put it past and let's look to the future. Thanks for your thoughts Mushroom, its not about gratitude mate, I just dont like the thought of some of the members pointing the stick at the former Lurcher organisations for their lack of effort and work during what was a testing and difficult time for Lurchers, they did a fantastic amount of work in turbulent times, after 30 years of running shows, clubs etc its time for others to take over, the man to help steer the group if he is willing is the man who has been there done that and is respected for all his work, Alan Tyer. 5 Link to post

That's one of the things I'm trying to make a point of, politics, if the club is to reach a point of having real clout, then we need the people that hate us to join, so if you go all out for hunting, dogs with ripped faces, and the f****n idiots on Facebook, and don't mellow it a bit, then with just the members of THL in the club, it's doomed. Paint a better picture of the sport, and as long as we are feeding the other factions ammo, like look at my hard dog, face chewed to bits by foxes, and all the other bollox, nobody will want to join, we all know it goes on, but it's knowledge we should keep to our selves and folk that enjoy that discipline. People are up in arms about how muslims slaughter cattle, but some of the stuff posted on here is a lot more gruesome than a cows throat being cut. You need to draw up your Constitution, and club rules and start to live by them now, and push them in the relevant sections. Then the club becomes a club, and then build on that. 1 Link to post

I was thinking earlier on and wondered your thoughts. The LAGBI aims to promote a positive view of lurcher work, hoping to ensure the future of our sport by improving the public perception of hunting with running dogs. Right? And part of this will be having members conduct themselves in a legal and moral manner by following the COC. Another part will be educating those new to the sport and those who do not know any better and who's actions show lurcher work in a bad light? Right? How do you do anything other than preach to the converted? How do you get young lads, who love nothing more then going out and doing all of the things that you don't want them to. . . . . to stop? I ask, because I work with young people most days and usually that involved trying to educate them to stop doing some pretty bad shit. . . . . . 90% of the time I fail! 3 Link to post

You've got to show them the right way and encourage them to come to there own solutions about the wrongs and the rights. You can't force people. The thing with people,not just the young. . Change is a difficult process.. People will follow the masses though.. Once peer groups are leading the way, others will slowly follow.. Well thats my own personal thoughts.. But there is this thing called 'the other 23 hours'. . . . . used when talking about . . . . . well the kind of kids I work with. An example . . . . I may work with a young man, maybe 15 years old. He lives on the estate, always has done, so do his brothers, cousins, dad. He sells drugs for a bit of cash, so do his brothers, cousins and his old man. . . . . they always have. They do well out of it, in his and their eyes, its fun, it works and its normal. He gets sent to me one day, and sits in a wee room for an hour a week. We talk about the dealing etc, I say some things that make sense. . . . he agrees. Whilst he's sat there, he starts mulling over that maybe its not what he should be doing, and he could stop? Do something else? But then at the end of the hour, he leaves my wee room and goes back to his real life, to all of the other influences that has shaped him so far. . . . and he spends the other 23 hours a day, seven days a week, immersed in that world and that mindset. The hour he spends with me seems like an abstract and impossible thing. . . .. even if really he kind thinks it might be right. Sooner or later, he stops coming to see me. Ive just not got the pull or the force of that other 23 hours. It's a toughie. 3 Link to post

Young have a lot of benefits in this day and age, but also have a ship load of shit to put up with most of it not of their making but they are the ones that will either live with it in the future or they will change things hopefully for the better same with the image of hunting gone on for thousands of years which decade will it totally cease? Guidance from knowledge and experience mutual respect and a desire to make things better no matter what they are. Link to post
