NEWKID 29,096
There is something about the sea that draws me in, I absolutely love it. I think its the fact that it is a place that you just cant control, you have to work with it, not against it. Its humbling, the size and power of it and it demands respect, take it for granted and its game over. I have almost drowned a few times, once in a stream as a kid (does that count ), once as a teenager and once a couple of years ago when bodyboarding in really bad or good conditions, depending on your point of view . The tide was up and against the sea wall, I was being tumbled on the sea floor like being in a washing machine. There were a set of steps in the wall which was my only way out, the sea was trying to pull me back in with every wave and I was literally on the sea floor holding my breath, digging my fingers into the sand, I lined my self up with the stairs and let the sea spit me out and up the stairs. I didn't show enough respect that day, I should never have gone in near that wall but it wake me up Still cant keep away though, am in the sea when I can be, Love it I gained a massive amount of respect the day I got cut off by the incoming tide. Same beach, no one about, lost track of time walking for miles along this sandbar. Got to the end to realise I couldn't cross there as the water was too deep, looked back and the tide had come in in the gully between my sandbar and the beach cutting me off. Booted it back up the beach to where I thought it would be safer but it was too late leaving me stuck about 40 metres out. I had no option but to go through or to call the coastguard but i'd rather not lol in I went and it was f*****g freezing and up to my armpits lol, so there's me wading through, camera and phone in one hand above my head whilst holding the pup on the lead in the other. I then had to walk the 3 miles home, f*****g soaked and cold but alright There's a few low water marks I fish mate which you've got to keep your wits about you, they're in the Bristol Channel and once that tide starts flooding it's not long before you're stranded... Not happened to me but my happened to my ex father in law, scary shit
Huan72 687
Its so easily done, I was out kayaking the other day and there were a few out, one bloke had his kid with him, couldn't tell the age of the boy but he was small and wearing no wetsuit or flotation device. The sea is cold at the moment, if that boy went in, things could get really bad, really quick and they must have been about half a mile out, I just couldn't believe it. NEWKID 29,096
That's right bird/ ruby.. Out cockle picking... Used to collect cockles, winkles mussels etc a lot when we were kids, there's loads of it in the estuary, pretty safe there though, just walk back with the tide ... Huan, You'd have to be a right twat to put your kid at risk like that, no floatation jacket even... There's some idiots about when it comes to the sea. Every year some numpty and his kid float out to sea in a dinghy....lol

Frann 882
No wonder us Brits are (mostly) drawn to the sea. Our island is surrounded by it A sea faring race, salt water in our veins and all that
Tiercel 6,986
I fished for a living for 15 years and had some really scary moments. The last one, we were fishing the bar of an estuary in the night and it blew up harder than forecast. it was blowing 5 to 6 with some really strong gusts. The net got fast and we had to go out over the bar to get it, the waves were 20ft high and curling, we caught one side on and it tipped the boat up on its side. How we did not flip I will never know, I fell on the gunnels, the net bin and my mate fell on top of me breaking 3 ribs. That was the last straw I had enough the sea won, it would be only a matter of time before something really bad happened. Disrespect the sea at your peril.
