oneredtrim 148
Seem to remember Met scoring a tidy one over the christmas period v trafford, mid '80's...jimmy case was not only vastly underated he could strike a ball Charlton-esque. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXLwi-ruwBs this one ? It must be Stig, though me memory tape is showing that match teams reversed (free kick into opposite end), cant see them pulling the 3-2 stroke twice (in a narrow period) ....so yeah must be.....funny i'd have also put money on met scoring 2 in that match. Had dough on it back in the day and the two herberts i was sat with were out of town reds. Dont look like christmas either on that film/pitch condition. Lampard can when he wants pull an amasing stroke, by getting the ball both up and down...inside the box (extremly narrow not a problem) with a man on him and a man on his intended teamate, with the goalie playing fly, he does it so well it dont get highlighted nearly enuf...proper craft. THE STIFFMEISTER 17,051
I don't think a lot of these players mentioned are actually good consistant free kick takers , also a big difference between hitting a live and a dead ball, for example power wise, few people hit one like r v p but could he generate the power Ronaldo does? I doubt it as a centre forward will very seldom do drills of that type to build the muscle memory enough But take the likes of koeman , nakamura and hassler All dead ball specialists who consistently scored free kicks on a regular basis, different techniques for different scenarios, take for example koemans infamous chipped goal against England for the Dutch totally different from in style with the thunder bolt he buried for Barcelona against sampdoria at wembley in European cup 93, a complete deadball guru, as opposed to some maverick attempting the latest training ground stunt.....to a regular free kick taker, you should be looking at making the keeper work as hard as possible rather than the wall, it always amazes me players making 100k a week not being able to keep it under the bar from 25 yards when a good Saturday league player can make the goalie stay on his toes everytime
