This "socialize your pit bull and it'll be fine with other dogs" thing that's been going around has really got to stop. It makes every soccer mom think they can/should rescue one, and that's exactly w

Standard pattys as you call them have faced things much heavier than twenty pound coons, and it was done in the dark by himself.I would consider that a much greater test for a dog rather than four or f

IMO there are only 2 reasons that someone would hold a camera closely to a terrier that's in bad condition. 1. your in the vetinary buisiness and will use the photos in lectures etc. 2. your new to

Na dog that sticks it out when the going gets tough and enjoys hunting contact more than they dislike the pain/discomfort associated with the hunting contact is going to take more damage than a dog that doesn't stick it out. By the time a dog shows it has heart it is for sure taking damage either from the quarry or from it's own determination to reach the quarry. If you have a "game" dog that hasn't been down and hurt but stayed then you don't have a proven game dog at all. It's a correlation not a causation you meathead haha

"i find they are ok with other dogs but if another dog as much as snaps at them thats it"

That would make them NOT ok with other dogs lol

The same can be said about a lot of terriers with no bull blood that are not socialised to get along with other dogs. And ive seen plenty that are just as happy as any bulldog to start a fight. Edited by downsouth

i'm no expert what some folk call qualities. are just the opposite in terrierwork. with the strong head comes the broad chest. withe the gameness comes the sickbay and short working life. couple with this the silent working style. and the litter wastage due to oversized terriers . and with one mateing at least four serious faults have been added .

i must admit to likeing the bull and terrier cross as an all round terrier for pesting but for serious earthdogs you have to question the use of pit blood in terriers specifically for work below ground. interesting topic

I've had the opposite experience bulljack.

Cleanspade, you bring up some interesting points. Some of those dogs Mainattraction posted seem to have nice sized chests. Very lean nice type, but strong and athletic.

gnasher u said '.meaning a poor quality bulldog ( ie a cur ) can create just as good a dog from the cross as a gr ch pit ace !.'

no way a 10 minute cur can with stand being dug to 2 ,3 times every week every season .. i read story of one armitage that quit from first bite, armitage said he was runkest curr he has seen.. now can such useless dog stay badger for hours every week every season .. or will he come out after 5 min with badger . and refuse to re enter. really a terrier needs true gameness to be able to work badger week in out .

Read what KawValley says on the subject....personally i agree with everything he,s said so far.............................far as im concerned you will never see true gameness from a pit dog underground...................

And in all fairness,if the Patterdale doesnt have enough gameness within them already then what exactly does the Patterdale add to the cross in the first place, just size ?

a dog doesn't need to show his gameness everytime , he should have intelligence ... dumb game only good for breeding not matching or badger work.

Ive always found that a strange attitude to have....................

Intelligence to say " f**k this im a survivor im outta here "..................or intelligence to say " ive got to be clever in the way i fight " ?

Either way unless your picking completely inferior opposition the times going to come when your backs against the wall and the little subject of gameness comes to the surface.............and if its not their..................
