A bolt action single shot 410 has always appealed to me for this job, gotta be better than manouvering a 32 inch barrel auto 12 bore in the hole!!! Although one of them 357 magnums would be handy

 

Anybody got any pics of a bolt action 410 pistol? I think most of them are just cut down shotguns? Also be handy if a small maglight or LED torch could be mounted for the tricky situations where ya can only get the one hand in...

a bolt action 410 cut down would still be to big you would be better of with a hammer action , i have a captive bolt gun and a 410 pistol i used to have a .22 but i sold that big mistake as i liked it and it was a hndy little tool

Just asking but can you get NO 3 pistols or would they just be 9mm hand guns?.Also how legal is using a bolt gun for dispatch as i can't see an argument against it seeing as they are used in slaughter house day in day out?.

Was told by our local chief of firearms department that it is totally illegal to use a shotpistol to shoot anything other than rats in an enclosed area.He said that he would grant any other suitable calibre for the humane despatch of Foxes at close quarters but if he found out that I was using a .410 shotpistol that I would never be granted an FAC again.

The captive bolt is illegal in Scotland if you are using a dog under the exemptions in the protection of wild mammals act 2002 (Scotland).

Thats there standard reply LOL ..But if pushed they cannot refuse you one .As long as you have a use for one .Seen all calibres used but IMO the .410 shot pistol is my preference

Yes you can but theyre not alot of good. Just not got enough power.

 

Never used a .22 pistol but have used .410 pistol and think its great. But people are right about it being noisey, especially when your down a hole head first.

 

I would also recomend strapping a little maglite or similar to the barrel. Saves having to have both hands down the pipe when the gun is being fired.
