Bell, i'm not a Twitcher by any stretch of the imagination, but just love to watch and study birds in their natural environment. It is another form of hunting, just like looking for foxes I suppose. It is wonderful when certain birds are located but of course one has to bear in mnd the ever so strict laws wtith the wilful disturbance act, does that come under the Wildlife and Countryside act 1981 or has certain amendments come into force? In my opinion that law is the most draconian law ever to become law in this country. You have to prove your innocense being presumed guilty beforehand. Perhap

Hello Bell, of course you are always welcome if you are in this vicinity, and you would love it because there is some wonderful activity on a good evening. The location is a place so close to my heart as I have been going to the place in question since I was around 13 years in age. Life has flown by but has been very good at times. Many years back I used to bolt foxes for a famous Biologist so he could radio tag certain foxes and learn more about their behaviour and about dispersal in litters. He was and still is a great man and he loved to see terriers work and was totally unbiased towards hu

OMANAYRA, If you want come down next season and I will get you some Nigtjar shots. That's if you want to my friend.

I've got Colins book here.... Do you mean Colin Watson? Have you read any of Desmond Nethersole Thompsons books? Yes. Snow bunting. I also have The golden eagle and sea eagle by J Whittaker, the journal of gerald tomkinson, as well as others. I collect books. especially rare, small batched ltd editions. I rate Desmond up there with the best of Authors and the Snow Bunting is a good book. I collect all types of books, but of course mainly natural history, Ornithology and hunting books. I also ,like yourself collect 1st, rare editions. My brother knows Jim Whitaker of Peregrine books bu

Funnily enough,I have only ever seen one and that must have been close to 50 years ago. What surprises me though the bird was sitting on the floor on the edge of a common and I was able to pick it up, it made no attempt to fly away. This must have been around June or July because we had dammed a stream for a swimming hole and were having a day there and a picnic. However the only trees anywhere near to where I found it was a pine wind break for the rugby pitch about half a mile away. TC Wonderful Tiercel! what wonders wildlife brings to ones heart, it is better than any other subject.

Omanyra, what do you want with the Nighjars, do you want photograph them or watch them through the Binoculars? If you are near me you can come of course as I would sooner do someone a good turn than a bad one. I can definitely take you to many locations next season. Another bird which is perhaps one of my best on my list is the beautiful Sparrow hawk, especially the adult Musket. I have watched and studied them on many occasions and on one particular time I spooked a female which had proceeded in taking down a Green Woodpecker. The place we live is a good place for Nightjar and my brother as a

Bush Rummager, never done much at Budby. However, every year at a certain place I do watch the Honey Buzzards. Budby is a nice location.

Omanyra, I was somewhat saddened to hear the unfortunate news about your friend finding himself in deep water regarding the Nighjar situation. However, the outcome of the situation for wrongful arrest and being able to buy certain camera gear with the compensation made me giggle inside. It is just like the badger situation, about its sett being protected. You can be prosecuted for willful disturbance if you are in the vicinity of certain protected species, but R.S.P.B can climb to nests, ring them and do all types. ok I agree that certain things need to be done for scientific

Thank you my friend. They are lovely birds, and I have studied them quite extensively over the years. Sherwood forest is great habitat for them and when I was a youngster I use to make places to sleep in at night with the terrriers and listen to the Nightjars; then I started to watch them with just inexpensive Binoculars until I could afford the Leica and Swarovski type Bins.It is the Woodcock which amaze me also and I start to watch the males in the month of March (Roding), an advertisement flight towards females. My brother has located Woodlark on many occasions but I haven't done much with t

Hello to everyone, and hoping everyone are keeping just fine. Just a small letter of words. If anyone would be interested in making any forays next breeding season for Nightjars in my local areas of Nottinghamshire, please anyone who is genuine could come with me in search search of the elusive Woodcock, Woodlark and Nightjar if they come more or less from the same vicinity the Notts area. Please I need somone who is 100 per cent genuine and we could share our knowledge and interest between ourselves in certain areas. I don't mind someone bringing their dogs if obviously kept on lead and under

Saw the Osprey take a trout last Thursday! Had some good success with Nightjar this season. However, not much luck with Woodlark. The Lesser Grey Shrike was a good sighting; a friend found a Red backed Shrike many years ago near Hardwick Hall.

Neil, Ospeys have nested on Rutland water in Leicester. That's were the Birdfair is held every year. However, it does attract our opponents like Bill Oddy and Chris Packham.Has any of the lads heard about Packham and the Countryside Alliance just recently? Regards Lutra....

There has been 3 Ospreys on Ogsten also with an Hobby. The lesser Grey Shrike was near to teversal and we got some great views of the bird. Lutra Lutra.

Are there any lads from Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire on this forum? As I have seen certain rarities this past month. There are Ospreys at Ogston Reservoir and my brother took me to see Lesser Grey Shrike in Nottinghamshire. Anyone ever seen the latter bird in question?
-
Very true Fatman! Totally correct....
-
In the last 10 years or so I would think 90% of lads prosecuted were caught because they put up incriminating evidence on the WWW. The authorities used to have to get their feet dirty to catch lads they suspected of breaking the law, now they can catch lads while drinking a mug of coffee. Lads nowadays grass themselves up, LOL, you couldn't make it up. And all while dragging the rest of us down with their stupidity. Very well said Neil!

It's always a sign of a good man who gets emotional over any kind of dog Foxdropper! That's how I get know about people, I just look and study in the way their dogs react to their owners and the owners treat their dogs......As the years roll by you think about the good dogs and the great times you have experienced together. No matter how many you lay to rest you never get hard to such a sad situation when they finally part company. 'But like you said, what a wonderful life"! Regards Lutra...

Cragman ,who owned the mounted fox that was curled up in the farmhouse? I stopped with an old hunting friend who had a same mount and he lived in the lakes also, it could be the same place.

Well said! Horrible vile scum of the earth low -lifes.

Lewdan, just responding to your post regarding the Steiner scope. I haven't used the scopes but if they are made anything like their binoculars they should be good. Plus the glass will be excellent. Sorry can't say much more. Pleased keep us informed if you do decide to buy it. Lutra Lutra.

Hello Philluk, nice to see there are some people on this forum with knowledge about hunting with hounds and terriers. Although for sure, there are some good guys on here who know their Mushrooms! Hope everyone is well and could they send their best regards to BRIAN MAY for me please. He's a wonderful fellow and his knowledge of foxes and badgers are second to none! Best regards. Lutra Lutra.
