  1. Hello Rat Face, Just a short response to your previous post regarding employment within the Hunt service. I have been involved with many fox hound packs over the years and have used my terriers in all types of situations and different types of terrain. My brother was kennel man terrier man to the South Durham 25 years ago and saw some considerable sport with the pack in question. My brother also followed the Albrighton with Bert Gripton many years ago now. I have been witness to many good days with various packs like the Pennine and once our local pack, the South No
  2. Hello Ali, Just picked upon your post regarding your terrier being stolen. Has any welcomed progress been forthcoming?Really I cannot put it into words what I think about such people who can stoop so low as to the regards of stealing another mans dogs. It is the lowest form of scum. I sincerely hope you have some type of happy response in getting the dog back. Have you had any news recently? Hoping you have an happy outcome, but without being too negative often situations like this never see a positive outcome.' Please keep us informed"?
  3. birdsallpl, very interesting to hear about your love of the countryside and bird nesting. Wonderful! oology is a fascinating, but somewhat frowned upon subject especially by certain bodies like the R.,S.P.B. If it wasn't for certain well-known oologists we wouldn't have the knowledge of Ornithology that we have today. Lutra.
  4. Second what JJM said, thats a very nice gesture to pass on a saving mate. Looks a tidy gun as well. regards John well what goes around comes around hey john, well I hope so as im after a nice Hw underlever now! WHY CAN'T THEY BE MORE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WITH THOSE QUALITYS! SUPERB HUMAN BEING..... LUTRA LUTRA.
  5. Any of the guys been out with that Warrener chap or is he another dreamer in the game? Only an old friend of mine did tell me some wonderful tall stories about such a guy called the Warrener. Is he any good with dogs? What terriers does he keep? Regards. LUTRA.
  6. Very strange that is Darbo, as even before I saw your post I have started reading the book by Fred Speakman, A Poachers Tale. A guy called Mike Tomkies put together a few decent titles, but at the moment my memory fails me to what they were called. I will let you know when I manage to look them up again. Also an outstanding Author was Gavin Maxwell of the (Otter) fame. Ring of Bright Water, Raven Seek Thy Brother, The Rocks Remain, Harpoon at a venture but one in particular I would advise for anyone to read, would be The Authorised Biography by Douglas Botting, The Saga of Ring of Bright Water
  7. Pointer, I see you have an interest in Falconry? Well Harris Hawks yes, there's a lack of good falconry/hawking books. The terrier and lurcher world has several new titles coming out every year whereas few Falconry books are produced. Thankfully the Americans seem keen to post up blogs, diaries and books on the Internet. I've always been surprised more hunting books haven't been written in the "diary of a hunter", "hunting year" format. Pointer, have you read the Hawking books by Mavrogordato? I have some very good Hawking books. Just picked a book up last week in Derbyshire; by the well-

  9. That book would certainly be one of controversy and conundrums! You would get terrier lads, some for him and some against. However, that would be another topic of conversation.

  11. ' I dug it my way'! I will be the first to admit that was an excellent thought, plus very quick and exceedingly funny. Brilliant!
  12. My reply to 5 foot downs comments. There is actually someone on this forum who has agreed in what I have said and has the intelligence and opinion on the working aspects of terriers.The truth of the matter is, that hard dogs and their owners give the terrier-game bad press. So simple and a fact which would be shared by anybody who has been involved with good dogs. I am not for one moment pulling hard dogs down, I am not. They have their place and uses. However, like I have mentioned before I don't think it is a good idea to parade dogs with open wounds at shows to all and sundry to see....5 fo

  14. First and formost, I don't need to get into a slanging match by someone who hasn't much knowledge regarding terriers and working them underground. I can assure everyone on these forums that I have done and seen the the job first hand for more years than I can remember. For you to think that baying dogs have no place in the way that terriers work underground; you surely haven't experienced proper terrier work in the way that it should be conducted. It is totally common sense that a good baying dog will see and account for more quarry than an hard dog that is always off sick. Like I have said be
  15. Foxy, I was somewhat interested in your experiences regarding the Nightjars in your part of the country. I have travelled extensively throughout the country but unfortunately not too familiar with Wiltshire. However, I do know there is some beautiful countryside in your part of the British Isles. My involvement with Nightjars has been considerable over many years since childhood days in the wooded areas we live close to. Just since last week I have located 4 singing males on different pieces of clear-Fell . Do you have a lot of clear-Fell near you Foxy, or is there much heathland in your area
  16. Has any readers an interest or knowledge regarding Woodcock and Nightjars? Also has anyone with alot of knowledge ever been witness to the Woodcock carrying their young? Regards. Lutra Lutra.
  17. I agree to a certain extent, but when one talks about certain quarry, especially those fellows there isn't anything that learns so quickly as they do. Yet again it all depends on certain circumstances.There is difference when a terrier is put into a small place than when one is in a really large place.
  18. That's one thing I can certainly do, is back myself up.When have I actually called you a Liar? And why should I shut up when as you say ,it is FREEDOM OF SPEECH?I was taught one admirable quality, when in the wrong, just admit. If I have slated you like you have myself, then I am man enough to apologise to you. I cannot see what I have done wrong only but having a diiffering opinion.....Why not settle our differences of opinions by accepting that we have got different views on terriers?You have consistently said that I am Johhny Bluck. You also stated that in your words I am too sickly nice;

  20. Foxdropper, in all due respect don't you think that if certain new people to the site are belittled, they may have future reservations about coming on such a site? Once again just my humble opinion. No sarcasm intended. I don't think it is a good idea to have to tiptoe around certain forums when all people want is a little guidance and knowledge sometimes. What do you think?
