  1. Downs view. Not really mate. Just that Melrose lads stick together and apart from Hawick we were all mates who went to the same school. The Hastings brothers were brilliant as is Keith Robertson and a hell of a lot more I could mention. Don't seem to get same solidarity in English rugby do you. Jok.
  2. Stockpot. I reckon you are on with that piece of antler. Take your time cutting out the recess. I'm still going to do a bendy one. Most of the gillies I've known have a similar set up on their wading sticks. The lead in the bottom ferrule could be well handy if you let it go. I should imagine that most, nowadays, would be connected by caribieners. Out of interest, what's the workable diameter where the antler meets the stick? Jok.
  3. Cheers Hopley. We are trying our best. Jok.
  4. Well son It's going to be tried real soon. I've just been on EBay and there are one or two nice coins on there including a Roaring Red Deer, a Leaping Salmon and A Nice Big weaning Pig. Going to have all of them and have a go. In the meantime have a go pal with something similar and let me know the results. Thanks. Jok.
  5. Fck off you heathen.lol. Can't think of anything but gentle heat to form it round a shaft but every shaft is going to be slightly different. The idea is to inlay rather than lay on if you see what I mean. I've some nice hazel all about 12 to 18 mm diameter and reasonably straight. Where I would normally have resin in the Jay feathers I will lay the curved coin. Do you think I ll get in trouble with the mods for defacing the Crown. Hahaha. Bet you when Scotland beat the bugger said in the Calcutta Cup they'll give me a mention. Lol. Jok.
  6. Totally agree. I was brought up and played with these guys (dads) for Galashiels and Melrose. The Laidlaws are close family friends as with my former coach Jim Telfer. Now as he is the leading light, I wonder where this position is going to go. Price for me all day long. Just seems to have a better all round awareness. We shall see. Jok.

    St Davids Day

Oh how the mighty fall . Bring it on. Jok.

    St Davids Day

Yes Socks and joy it gave us all. Sorry did you say beat or did you actually mean thrashed. Anyway on it was a good excuse to empty the Dalwhinnie. Just hope we can keep up the form against them others. Jok
  9. Bring it on Griff. I'll get the coins, you do the bending. Lol. Jok.
  10. Beast. Totally agree. He played a tight game and TBH I gave him MOM. I know the points went to our kicker but thought he deserved it. Only my opinion. Really looking fwd to the Cup. Jok.

    St Davids Day

TBH it's no different to what we all do. Us jocks, Taffs ! Irish and the Auld Enemy all cook very similar dishes with different names. So we add a bit of meat which makes it a different dish but ffs we all have lamb, beef, pork and game. All the Jocks do different is add mutton. Oh and the Taffs shag the sheep clearly to give it additional flavour. Anyway, just finished making a leek and tattie soup for St David's day. Have a nice one gentlemen and ladies. Jok.
  12. As above. Off and on . Worked fine afterwards. Jok.
  13. I found a wallet on a garage forecourt. Looking for ID (honest) I found cash and 2 chequers to the tune of £4500.00. Found the address and set off about 12 miles to give it back. Found the place and a lovely lady was full of gratitude for my honesty, asked me wait there a moment, went indoors and fetched me a bottle of wine as a thank you. Would I hand another one in?? Open to debate. Lol. Jok.
  14. Morning Stockpot. You see what I mean about just too big. Love the idea of a wading stick though. Wonder how much trouble it would be to bend one these and wrap it into a stick shank? Maybe the Maestro can let me know lol. Jok.
  15. Coneykenny. Took on board pal. Anyone wants less mesh then no problem. Sir Blessed lives in Australia and specified loads of ventilation so that's what was made. Furious wanted less on the front and more on the sides so that's what he got. That's the beauty of making bespoke items. I can do anything the customer requires. Just trying out a plastic water proofing on the lid which at the moment seems to be ok. (Like a lacquer but thicker). Jok.
  16. Used to be 3/8" and 1/2" in my day. Jok.
  17. Why not have word with John Snowdon up there near Otterburn? You'll find him through the Sporting Gun. Good luck. Jok.
  18. Wouldn't have wanted that dig at 11.55am on a Sunday morning. LOL? The guys would think bad things about me LOL.
  19. Thought you'd gone and left us Walshie. Looking forward to the CC with interest. Who do you reckon will be our scrum half? Jok.
  20. Right. First thanks for digging them out. Second. I'm, at this stage, going to stay with the thumbstick idea. Tell you why. It's the diameter where the horn marries the stick that I need. I'll leave the opinells to Griff. He does a fantastic job on them mothers. That last, the Lurcher, is easily as good as his last 2. Because I know he reads all these posts I'm going to suggest a barn owl head as a future project. The colours should work lovely. Anyhow pal I'll crack on and won't forget your help. Will stay in touch Och Aye. Jok.
  21. LUNCH???? You live well. Ffs I get one meal a day when I'm lucky. Lol. Thank you for looking my friend. Don't exactly know where all this is going but I'm going for it anyway. Jok.
  22. So I've to design one with a veranda and rainproof top LOL. You are of course correct in that they are quite open but the whole concept is ventilation. One fella specified less open front and additional side vents. It worked well for him so in other words horses for courses. I just enjoy making them and listen closely for new ideas. Just my opinion. Jok.
  23. As above. I've my granddaughter off with chicken pox so I'm getting my orders LOL. Jok.
  24. I see what you mean Stockpot. They mostly seem too big but I like some of the designs. That leaping salmon would certainly fit the bill. Thanks for the heads up. Jok.
  25. I'll have a look now mate. There's one or two on here making enquiries so I'd better shape up. Jok.
