  1. Back to the narrow alley my friend. Sit your dog down, steady it and throw the dummy over it's head along the alley. Wait as long as you think right and give the go back signal to retrieve. With any luck and because it hasn't a big area to go round you, and with huge expansive bring it on gestures and vocals together with a massive good dog you should have the dummy in your hand. At this stage I wouldn't bother with the hold the dummy routine because that will come later. I never bother with treats, just plain common sense praise. If this praise is given to all aspects of the training then th
  2. Just had quick look, as you do, to see how things are going on. My Kelsie onions have really improved. I thought at one point they were goners but hey ho, nature has a way of sorting things out. I reckon there will be a few 4lbs among them. Made a strange soup last night. With the lovely one being in Teneriffe with the girls, I'm left to my own devices. I pulled a half grown pumpkin, an onion and a handful of rocket. In the souper with only salt added. Flipping lovely with that rocket peppery taste. Bit wish washy but lovely. Will let you know in due course how the judging went on. Jok.
  3. These might be able t throw some light on the subject. Coastal Nets Ltd, Bridport. 01308 427885. I don't think open at weekends. Jok.
  4. Another Jock. More the merrier I say. Welcome and enjoy the banter. Jok.
  5. Mate, that ain't beech. Silver blue smooth bark. No way mate. I might well be wrong about pine though. Jok.
  6. Bloody hell Devon. You sound miles in front of everything down here. How's that? We are in the heart of England so you would assume we should be there or there abouts. The only crop coming off at the moment is or are spuds and cabbage. Admittedly we could harvest early beet and some climbing beans but after that we are standstill. Times a changing me thinks.jok.
  7. Watch out son. The cunning red devil has proved to me on 2 occasions that he clears 7 feet easily. Murdering sod. Take care. Jok.
  8. Is that pine? The bark looks that way as well as the rings. If it is, I'm surprised with no splitting.
  9. They were big into fishing/trawler type netting. Used to buy all my nylon and rings from them. Not heard hide nor hair for a while.
  10. All my rows have blighted. Taken off all early shaws now going to start on mains. What a bummer. Today is judging day as well for North Warwickshire which we fall in. We could do with the £100 in the allotment kitty. Aside from that things are looking very good. Like Terry d, I've a glut of veg but as always, the older community get some fresh veg. Soon be time to get the souper out of the cupboard. Loads of new recipes coming up. Jok.
  11. Courgette and milk soup. Cook 1 kg of courgette with 3 tablespoons olive oil and 3 crushed garlic cloves, seasoned with salt early in the cooking. Let the mix go lightly brown and concentrated. Take off and cool. Mash it round a bit and add in up to a litre of milk. Obviously less means ticker soup. Bring the mix up to the boil, add some black pepper, a few torn basil leaves and a smattering of Parmesan and eat. Enjoy. Jok.
  12. Got the dreaded blight in my earlies. All tops off and burned. I' m rather afraid that main crop has the same but waiting out a bit. Crop, however, is very good . 2 gardens next to mine are suffering badly and the problem is that they Re newcomers and don't understand the problem. Everything else looking quite good. North Warwickshire judging on Tuesday so fingers crossed. Whatever the outcome we are eating well. Jok.
  13. Same as the pigeon lads do. Muslin tube, seal one end whilst out in the day, rabbits in, fold over while still working, close of play seal other end end in the cool box. They are cheap enough and you just plug them in the fag lighter. The beauty of the muslin is that the blowflies lay on the outside which is then easy to wash. Hope you have a good couple of days pal. Jok.
  14. To be honest I can't see why there would be more sweating up in a pvc box. We are working largely in the winter, same bedding is straw or shredded paper(which I prefer), both types of boxes will have adequate ventilation, (mine certainly do) and the ferrets are really only confined when travelling. If you've got the car heater on full because you are cold then I reckon the ferret boxes will equally warm up. However outside doing what we do I doubt there's much of a difference. Anyway, seeing as how I don't do pvc, my lightweight fully aired wooden boxes are still available lol. Jok.
  15. What a result. Just sorted out dinner for 4 families to include, new potatoes, cabbage, carrots, spinach, cauliflower and a lovely selection of salad. That's what it's all about. Oh and the raspberries and gooseberries have done very well. Crumble. Oh yes. Jok.
  16. I got the wrong one.It is Pipa wh said no more. That's when someone on here pointed me towards Mr Chick. Sorry if I've mislead anyone. Jok.
  17. Not a bad kind of opportunity I think. Someone's gonna have a silver spoon. Good luck to you all. Jok.
  18. Did you ever think to put the pup up when doing this kind of thing. If it upsets then surely blissfully unaware might be a better option. Talk to some of the guys who train their gun dogs to shot. They don't blast one off in their ear and expect them not to be afraid or intimidated. The little dogs are led into it gradually and over a good period of time. Now I'm not saying that Kew Gardens is in the imminent future but a little sense should prevail. Good luck with your training. Jok.
  19. Northern lite. I know, I was just referring you to the post. Just sent another north of the border to Galashiels and I think got the lad some land. Jok.
  20. Nice one John. Flacko picking his up soon but I've got to buy him a coffee. Lol. Jok.
