Wooden Half-Barrel Mole Traps
jok replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
That's all well and good but no one would know how they worked without the wooden paddles. We used them on the farm for years. -

Decided not to bother with swede and kale. Seems I'm the only one who eats so we'll get them from the supermarket. Must admit that generally, everything is going to plan and now we've started to eat the produce life is good. Jok. -

All the top 2 rows I've taken up. No point in flogging a dead horse. Bought 40 Red Baron plants and in they went. QUESTION? All, and I mean all of my onion sets put in the frame thing you see in the pics have gone to seed. I've never had that happen in a long lifetime. Not the end of the world though. Pull them up and set something else. Just put in another 40 leek plants. They are great with the faggots. Jok. -
Socks.nyou are such a liar. That thing felled me and I ain't no midget pal. The lads laughed their bollocks off.

Just made a triple which should accommodate 5 if not more ferrets. Still kept the weight down as well. Jok. -
You lot are making me smile like fck. The other night, 2 mates helped me remove one of my fence panels to let me into the paddock, where, hopefully ,we'd shoot the red stink inking thing that took all my chickens. AGAIN. On my way across to see the next land owner I came across the electric fence. Well truth be told, and there's 2 guys on this forum to confirm it, I held on to the Fcking thing and it chucked me a good couple of feet up the field. The twat had it on mains. Geeze don't that give you a buzz.

First pic is the Kelsie onions. I' m afraid, as proper gardeners will see, I have the dreaded curly moth. Top 2 rows are fckd. However, I had a cunning plan, and they look a lot better. Spuds looking good and in fact probably ready to lift. First earlies and cabbage with a bit of beef. Mm. Runner beans up the sticks, outdoor tomatoes surviving, squash and courgette as always going grand. Leeks in. 3 different lots so we'll see what happens. Having a little go with celery. Parsnips, if the Roots went down are looking VERY good. Beetroot good. In the cage, mange tout, onions, courgette and some -
Well guys. Jim Chick from Wiltshire has come up trumps. He's also going to be doing reconditioned boxes and sounds like making collars. What a find. Good on yer Jim.

Things are looking good. At the moment I am relatively weed free but only because I've had the time. Now work is getting busy things might change. I am pleased however. Jok. -

Sharpen Your Tools Without A Grinder

Rebel. Don't know the recipe my friend. When we were on the farm and living in the dark ages, any form of income was good. The school I was in offered 1/6d per pound of rose hips. My father decided to go for it with my mother and brothers. We had the luxury of cattle feeders in the barns which were altered to be able to keep the hips fresh. Earlstone High School took delivery of 1 tonne of rose hips which meant new bedside lights, downies and a few other luxuries. The shock on the headmasters face when confronted with such a huge amount will live in my memory forever. Since that day, to my kno -
I guess I'm a right stupid old git , but, I've sat/ laid there and listened to th blackbirds singsong and actually got to wondering what they are actually saying. Even now, writing this, there are 2 going at it hammer and tong. I know when they have eggs ready for hatching they talk all the time. When they hatch they both murmur encouragement but not loud enough to let the magpie know. They make that lovely sound when feeding. I would love to know what the rest is all about. Anyone out there done a study?

Sharpen Your Tools Without A Grinder

Clown wouldn't be doing my kind of work. Takes you back though to the sandstone wheels, with pedals, that were used, in my past, in Scotland, to sharpen the scythes and hoes etc that were used to do a variety of jobs. The blades really didn't need to be that sharp, just effective. Anyone reading this remember singling turnips? No perhaps not but I did it for fckd days on end and believe me it was no fun. Just as an aside, anyone remember picking rose hips for the Delrosa syrup? That was fun. Jok. -
Just had one from a forum member and unfortunately there are a couple of faults, namely, no on off and reading 8ft at all times. Clearly unusable. The fella said it worked when he last used it a year and a half ago so I imagine nothing major. Question is Who can fix it? Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you. Jok.

Sorry, should have said. As regards locking them in, most roost in the apple tree or on outdoor perches. They don't go in at night. Jok.

Well guys. You think youv'e done everything possible. I've 7 ft all round with total netting. If anyone wanted to be sure of not having another catastrophe thenI guess it's me. Bought 14 mixed beautiful birds who started laying right from the start. Happy as Larry. Came to me in the morning, lovely. Fox climbed next doors, got on my roof and forced his way in. All birds beheaded and not one taken. If I could do more I would. I take the point about shutting the pen drop door but in all fairness I genuinely thought I'd covered the bases. This fckd is defo having the .223. Tenacious, wily, cunnin
