Self employed pest control

It all depend on the fields. I did some that had been recently drilled and the mole tunnels quickly spread from the edge of the field down the hidden wheelings so the molehills were all in straight lines all over the field. Right across from one side to the other. The soil either side wouldn't support a tunnel. Only where the tractor wheels had compressed the soil under the harrowing could they tunnel. -

On farms and some new garden jobs out here it is better set 2 to 3 traps per run initially. In one garden I had 53 moles out in the first year, and in another 19 in a fortnight. I once got a double catch in the same Duffus trap three consequetive days and threesomes are common in three cornered tunnels. Once it quietens down I can get away with 2 or 3 traps set on the boundaries of a garden in many cases. Some of my first customers are now down to half a dozen moles a year at most. Some haven't had a new mole in 2 years yet their gardens were riddled with them before I started. On farms -

Bill them for wasting time? These were Yorkshire farmers! The French farmer I worked for was just as bad though. I agree about saturating the ground with traps though. Saves time in the long run. But in gardens it is totally different. Sometimes I will put a single Putange in, not a pair. -

Have done a few farms, but kept getting messed about. I would quote for what they wanted, turn up to find they wanted me to do a bit more "while I was there". Also, they called me in when the grass was too long to see where the tunnels went or there'd be stock in the fields so I stopped doing them. Garden jobs are far easier and more profitable. -

I accidentally became a mole trapper 9 years ago after moving to France. The farmer that we rented a cottage off knew I was into fishing and shooting so asked me if I'd give it a go. He bought me 6 traps that turned out to be worse than useless. After struggling for a couple of weeks I phoned my old mate who had showed me how to go on when we used to drop in on his mole jobs while out shooting and fishing. Keith sent me all his old traps and it went from there. I put six of his traps in and caught five moles by the following morning. The farm is 300 hectares of very mixed soil types and I -
I've been on a few forums that were spoiled by Americans. The problems were that half the time nobody understood what they were talking about. If I go on a French fishing forum I post in French and use the French terms for the fish, tackle and baits. Also, if we are talking tactics I might explain what Brits do and why, in French. That shows respect to the members. What I find with most Americans is that they use American words and names that have no equivalent in British English. Many don't seem to realise that the fish, baits and methods are either called differently or don't exist outside t

So, you finally seen the disadvantages of those DIY plastic pipe pods? Just because you can doesn't mean that you should ? Look around the freeads and second hand stores for a Benbo Trekker photographic tripod. Then you need someone who can drill holes and tap screw threads in alloy round bar. You cut a couple of discs about 1/2" thick, same diameter as the tripod arm. Drill a hole dead centre in the flat side and tap a screw thread same as a camera takes. Screw the disc on tight then drill another hole at the top and tap a bankstick thread into it. Same with the other disc. That g

No clue what I'm doing : Bollie making

I will be trying that in summer. I found that they weren't interested in the local bread so have baked some maize bread that I have got in the freezer ready for use. I think the French bakers use baking powder, not yeast and the fish don't like it. Nor do I. If you watch the surface weeds near to the bank you sometimes see large carp pushing their way through looking for snails. I freeline a garden snail or a whelk. They are hooked three or four metres from the rod tip. -

I fish close in. Rarely cast more than 15 metres and in many cases the bank is a metre or so above the water level. That often creates a steep line angle, hence my two foot leader. Less chance of spooking the fish against the running line. Quite a lot of the time I can see the hook bait and the carp. Years ago when I tried short hook lengths and bolt rigs I saw many carp pick up the bait then flee the swim without any indication of a bite. Sometimes they took other fish with them. The way I fish the carp feel little or no resistance initially and by the time they have sunk the float the bait i -
You just have to remember the old fable about the little Dutch boy and keep your finger in the hole.

Agree with the first bit. People don't know why boilies came about and don't look at alternatives. I only fish for wild carp. Many of them have never seen a bait. Maize is king. But it pays to add a few micro pellets into the spod mix to stimulate their appetite. Then I put luncheon meat or a Frolicks dog biscuit soaked in cod liver oil on the hair. Where nuisance species are about I use two or three artificial grains of maize. I don' use short hook links or bolt rigs as I've seen too many carp spooked by them. I use a stiff 18" leader, usually the mainline furled, to a 6" braid hook lin -
Can you keep your dogging meetings to yourselves please? ?

After the successes of "Say Yes to the Dress" and "Curvy Brides" they are bringing out a Yorkshire version; "Say 'OW MUCH? t'Frock"

Brilliant. ? But lettuce not forget that this was the first meeting. I won't be getting down and dirty until next week.

I don't have a Pretzel. I drive a Berlingo.

Has it got G5 coverage? ?

After examining her lettuce I just probed her tunnels today. That is about the norm for a first visit. I'm confident of a result next time I call though.
-
Looking at it from below it seemed a bit moth eaten. But from above it was splendid. I told her that it needed some root treatment. No. I didn't have the right size trap.
-
Something has been munching on her lettuce. She wanted me to take a look.

Whilst out on Mole-Patrol I have done 16 visits, caught 7 moles and a mouse, fed fish, cleaned pond filters, mended a lawn mower and made a lesbian happy! Beat that ?

Same here in France. They need two picnic tables; one for their food and one stacked with €200 of boilies, pellets, glugs....... And I have never seen them catch anything. They fish 5 metres from their vehicles at one side of the lake and all the carp ade at the other side. -

I don't understand the preoccupation with boilies. Three grains of whole maize, a chunk of luncheon meat or Frolicks dog biscuits does the job for me. -
But he was happy to help one of them win an election. He is sniping with the benefit of hindsight. Nobody knes what was thd best course of events and nobody in European governments have fared any better. Cummins should crawl back under a stone where he belongs.

I would rather they popped the line than popped the rod. There is only so much strain you can apply.
