hope this post helps with anybody who takes a saluki x on. my saluki first x landed at my door with a £50 price tag. woud"nt listen to a command he was told,thought off the lead meant see you later mate. some tuff love later he now works to hand signals and every catch is a joy. i never liked saluki x because i thought they were slip them off the lead lurchers. this dog has now been with me for 5 years. works the cover,hunts on his own and is a true one man dog. give a dog a bad name is rife in our chosen field. i"m no top notch dog trainer,but i work my dog single handed and we both love out

some interesting x on here lads. i've always bought what was available when i needed a lurcher, was never a dog peddler or breeder. this lab x keeps on cropping up and in my old age ( and drunk moments ) i might just breed that x .so if you see a pensioner walking near the bonny bonny banks with 2 black heavy lurchers just humour me,i am a old time poacher with a glint in his eye and a bag full of game. oh! and a fishing rod to plead innocent to farmers. keep the faith and walk the walk.

silken windhound ? come on this is a wind up, why is any decent lurcher man listning? my labradoodle x cockapoo pups [doodlepoose] are the ultimate 3 out of 3 hare dogs, the hare pisses its self laughing. its really a silken wind=up surely.

before salukis became the fashion collie x was always the x lurcher men looked for. back in the 70s our only way to find lurchers was the exchange @ mart, you could get a trial back then.[ f@@k me i am old] hancock took the collie x on and was good at it. collie first x are decent lurchers. people now want a lurcher from superdog x superbitch. give me a lurcher who listens and catches the odd bit off game and im happy. bought a first x years ago, picked my pal up and off we went in the van for a chase, never got into 3rd gear and the collie x knocked f@@k out of my pals lurcher in the back of

good pictures nice pup. only you will know if your bull x has any probs with kids.but in my experience lurchers are great with kids any lurcher any x especially if brought up in the house. dont worry if your kid suddenly cries when left alone with your lurcher its probably stolen his sweeties

what a brilliant post this is plenty of good answers and discussions. update on my own field trial 14 month old lab,(wife bought this as a pet,and i work lurchers so exercise is out with the lurcher lol ) this lab runs all day and jumps just about anything. could find a needle in a haystack with his nose. eager to please and is a natural at retreiving. yes any first x will be heavy but i bet first x bulls throw a lot of heavy pups. will post some picks this weekend. oh before i forget he is also a good watchdog and serious about harming anybody who lays a hand on the wife. this is the first la

ive rehomed more than a few over the years, either this or that excuse from me or the dog. doesnt make me a bad owner mind you. on saying that my present lurcher had a few owners before me, his faults included howling in the kennels and uncontrolable in the field when slipped (or f####d off on his own for a hour) howls if left in the house for too long sometimes( seems to be a saluki thing in my experience). listens to what i say out working now, so happy days. its not always the dog or owner at fault, sometimes a change of owner can do the dog a world of good.

had one back in the 80s pure black too heavy for hare. never put him to anything else. was a handful if he took a dislike to somebody. and my part of the town was a no go area for cats. funny enough i also own a lean trial bred lab 14 months. loves out will the lurcher

never slipped a dog in my long ownership of lurchers. f**k me guys lurchers hunt with you and jump and scent there game. slipping a dog is not what a lurcher does.slipping a dog is what a saluki owner does. lurchers and running dogs are not the same.

lurcher to lurcher with a lot of deerhound from sire.small bitch could turn hares uphill within 50 yards of the chase, second chase? put it back in the van no stamina.my pal now has her as a pet after a terrible injury with a treble wide hare who made her jump a double sheep fence (topped with barbed wire) .

thanks for the positive views from everybody. this saluki x i have now is better than average and has umpteen scars cause of his commited drive. l am not a fan of the saluki x,i have rehomed at least 4 because of not settling in the house or just plain f@@'@@'@ scatty. but this dog is a proper worker. let me open a BIG BIG CAN OF WORMS this dog was bred by c nuttall, sold to somebody in greenock . as with some lurchers this dog had 2 3 4 owners before i got him. dont know anything about the owner but 300 pounds as a pup made me take my time and work him as a single dog,just me and him. wifes staffy died while back,so she thought i want a house dog[ agree lurcher owners as long as its not a cockapoo or a shitpoo, so she who has to be obeyed bought a field trial bred labrador.! now she wants to know why he has barbed wire fence cuts on his front legs. hes a working dog my beloved thats what happens cant wait for the divorce,any advice on how to cover up more working marks

now serious lurcher men please answer if you have a valid point. why not x your lurcher with a track greyhound. it never seems to be a issue when breeding. it was always the norm way back. the reason i ask is because my first x saluki grey dog is everything i expect from a worker and i am seriously thinking to put him back to a greyhound. i am not a new lurcher owner,unless 40 odd years coursing makes me a novice. WHY NOT?

seen it done it bullmastif. even convinced my now wife to go walk my dog when i first met her, ( just a stroll with the dog) long dress high heels,(not me )is that a fox i say surprised? after all these years she is still with me. lurchers,wifes,kids,married.
