  1. There's someone in Stilton mate does ferret rescue they may have some , sorry have not got any contact details , worth a google though . Plus you've always got Cambs ferret rescue and welfare society , i've had several off them over the years , i know there at the anglian game fair next weekend.
  2. Yes mate it's definately a closed ticket , worth getting an open ticket by now , good luck....
  3. I presume you cut the barrel. Did it affect the balance a lot? Can't use a silencer for hunting in France. No mate , didn't cut the barrel , 16" is how it came from Cz , this was the shortest they did , a great length for shooting from inside the Landy.
  4. Anyone asking for advice new or old is fine , there's always something new to try or a differant slant on trapping that may get you out off a muddle . The only thing that F'S me off is trapping for drink money , some of us have / choose to make a living from this great way off life . I've recently come across one guy in this area who's a postie and trapping moles for £3 each and no other charges . He's not bothering me too much , Yet , but ....i'm not a happy chap when asked by a new customer why i can't do the same and then they don't want to hear my answer.
  5. CZ452 .22lr , i use one most days/ nights , can't fault it . synthetic stock with a 16" barrel , you can't go wrong . Whatever else you move upto you'll always keep your first rifle and this is one to keep.
  6. cheap spade from the local market , cut to width with a 4" grinder ,( width ) ,,, slightly bigger than a Duffus .
  7. hope someones near you mate , if not Killgerm , next day delivery and genuine Fenns.
  8. Think it's a genetic thing. I've seen the same thing with mink. Only ever caught two silver mink. Both were caught in the same location. Thing is, I caught the second one 19 years after the first. Yes , i guess it must be , that would explain it..
  9. Very Lucky , always fancied a move , but chickened out each time , bit concerned about starting a business all over again. Almost moved to the Highlands last year ....
  10. They seam to live in certain areas , once you catch one , i've found it's very likely to catch others on the same piece off ground . More often than not it's sivers or apricot coloured rather than albinos though, so yes they are rare.
  11. Great little trap , shame about the stupid pricing..... their loss....
  12. just restrict the entrance mate , sticks , marker pegs , your choice the rat won't care . A 2" hole is plenty . I constantly have a cage trap, unbaited behind the ferrets run and catch 5 or 6 rats a year . Ironically had one in their today and introduced it to the PCP.
  13. Best tip for traplines mate is save your self any greif and cash and look at maybe getting your self a talpex or two and /or some decent half barrel traps off flatt pack and then have a shifty threw the older posts on here.best advice a can give ya! Agree mate , duffus the first choice , Talpex on the odd occasion a duffus gets soiled up , or for deeper runs , But the trapline definately has a place . I've used them particularly in public places and schools/ playing fields.
  14. Yes mate , i crimp a short length of wire rope ,( the 1.2mm stuff) only a couple of inches long , to the trap and form a small loop the other end , again with a copper crimp .This gives you a fixing point to hold the trap in place , a wire peg can hold it in place through the crimped loop. Plus the trap needs to be bedded in , slightly angle/push the the jaws of the trap into the tunnel . This helps stop the mole moving the trap up and out off the way. Stops alot of soiling up and foul catches. A very esay to use and discreet trap . Plus a hundred way next to nothing.
  15. Surely no-one whatever their god is called can truely believe in their heart that killing any innocent person going about their daily business is justifiable . Come on really , don't fool yourself...
  16. I've made a living from using Duffus and talpex , with the occasional use of Traplines , but the price of traplines i believe is now ridiculous. Hence the reason for trying out the Putagnes , time will tell .
  17. Hi talpa , just realised you gave similiar advice also , with all mass produced traps they cannot be perfect every time.
  18. Many thanks mate , very much appreciated , looks like i'm there now .. Will try them on thursday on a school playing field. ( thanks for the offer...)
  19. SORTED, , Left the traps outside last night and today , they got a thorough soaking until the sun came out . Tried a differant trap and trigger to the one that had peed me off and it set within seconds and the trigger held firm . 18 of the 20 traps set really quickly and i laid them all set on the workbench. 2 of the traps would just not set properly if i could struggle to set them the prongs where twisted and then the trigger would ping out . A few minutes in the vice with a metal dowl through the round end off the trap and a bit of a twist and those two work well now. It s
  20. I use Duffus traps , have done for 32 years now and have caught a mole or two , don't get me wrong mate i do know how to catch moles !!! Not that keen on having the p taken when i'm after advice, but guess i've done the same plenty of times . I think i've got so used to the Duffus ,the putagne seams alien.
  21. Cheers mate , that's what i'm getting the trigger pinging out.
  22. ..... Well after using various traps for over 30 years , i thought i'd give some Putagnes a try. Like most traps , i've found it's a bit like learning to ride a bike , difficult to master , but once you have it's instinctive.. But these have me beaten , sore thumbs , and i've now chucked emm outside the workshop door , well it was grub up anyway. So what's the secret , i've watched the famous youtube vid 3 times now and he makes it look a doddle .
  23. You would do alot better with an electronic mole call , works every time.
  24. I think i've just been reading a script from the Twilight Zone.
