  1. Up at 4am to visit a spot that's great for cuckoo's and photography, 5 males seen flying about and chasing each other from their territories... Here's a peak of what i managed.
  2. Red kite showing some awesome aerial acrobatics and just how agile they are for such a large and elegant bird.
  3. Whinchat is a beauty, top notch. Usually get a pair of redstarts nesting each year, whinchats take a little more finding up this way though.
  4. Mono image is very nice pal, lovely portrait ?
  5. Thank you very much, highly appreciated ?
  6. Thank you Steve, very kind and much appreciated. I've not had any published as I wouldn't know where to start, got a couple framed photos for home and done a calendar of wildlife for family xmas presents last year. Just a hobby that gets me out and about of a spring/summers evening and most weekends.
  7. The One and hjckff - thank you very much gents, appreciated.
  8. Arry, JJM and Walt - thank you very much for the comments, much appreciated. Bell - thank you... Merlin are fairly few and far between to be near me to be honest, they can be seen on the coast but no too regular sightings... We do have Marsh Harriers nesting local but they are schedule 1 birds and need special licenses etc to get anywhere near nest sights or feeding grounds - they can be viewed through bins and have seen juveniles hunting wetlands but never close enough for good shots.
  9. Squeamish - Thank you for such a lovely comment and glad you like the photos... It wasn't until I started getting into wildlife photography that I too didn't realise just how much wildlife and nature was on my doorstep, some things close to home and some further afield... Bell - not stupid at all, I've found dead birds, had a swallow fly into window last year and killed itlself so straight into freezer, also aviary birds that have passed away if you know people who keep them or birds for taxidermy that aren't in best condition to do anything with... The hide I went to - t
  10. Had a session on the sparrowhawk's, these are wild birds that come to dead baited perches, I had the male come in for 3 visits taking Siskin and mice and the female for a superb 7 visits taking Blue Tit and mice - what an awesome day of photography and nature.
  11. Might be of interest to some https://www.bto.org/science/migration/tracking-studies/cuckoo-tracking
  12. Thanks for all the likes and comments people, much appreciated and glad you like my photography work.
  13. Thank you for positive comment and taking time to look at my images - much appreciated... The bird I think you're referring to is a male Redpoll which is similar in colour to Rose Finch.
  14. Thank you, much appreciated. Yes, that's the Cinnibar caterpillars, the yellow and black ones... When I was photographing the Juvenile the National Trust and volunteers were there ripping out all the Ragwort (the yellow plant pictured) that the caterpillars live and feed on, apparently it has to be at least 10 meters away from any livestock... Dont really know why.... Not too good for the young cuckoo as that's where and what it was surviving and building up on... if if you'd like to see any more of my images - https://www.flickr.com/photos/94724826@N08/
  15. Juvenile in Northumberland September time of remember right, just on the coast feeding on Cinnebar caterpillars building itself up for long journey.
  16. Generally round about early May before they arrive in UK, heard 5 in one area last year, seen 3 but never managed any images... heres one from couple year ago in scotland and one in Northumberland with meadow pipits
  17. Cresties from Scottish Highlands couple month ago...
  18. Statement put out by local vets in my area
  19. Couple from other end of the country
  20. I'm avoiding walking the dogs round that area mate, seen the signs up last week... The first signs of the disease are normally identified as skin lesions and sores that have not been caused by an injury. These sores are most commonly found around the legs and feet and appear as a distinctive swelling, open reddened and ulcerated skin; these usually develop within approximately two to seven days. Once infected, dogs can develop signs of sudden kidney failure. These signs include lethargy, vomiting, reduced hunger and, in some cases, abdominal pain.
  21. Crested tit or affectionately known as "The punk of the forest" , this stunning little bird is only found in Caledonian pine forests and woodland of the Scottish Highlands here in the UK, they come down to lower branches during colder periods to feed and in warmer weather keep to the tops and feed on the insects.
  22. Do you go to Clara Vale for the Jays George ???
  23. You would be better getting a monthly subscription for Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC http://www.adobe.com/uk/creativecloud/photography.html This is what I do, run programmes off my laptop and desktop but save images on external hard drive so not to slow machines down ?
