  1. To be fair any of the EOS range would be an improvement on older cameras, I started out with a EOS 600D... If you search around most bodies will come with a 18-55mm kit lens or some packages do the same but with a 18-55mm and a 70-300mm. All depends what you’re wanting to photograph really, I assume it’s wildlife of talking about 300mm or 500mm lenses ??? If wildlife is going to be main use then look for something with a higher FPS (frames per second) and if looking at lenses of that size I would suggest the Canon 100-400 L series mkii - superb lens and excellent for wildlife on
  2. Set up a new hide and station on some land with permission and support from the farming couple after all the carry on with the council and my old hide/set up... Today was the 1st time I’ve managed to spend a couple hours there with camera and I wasn’t disappointed, new girl in town visiting multiple times every day, she’s been triggering the trail cam for the past week so thought I’d try and grab a few frames with the DSLR
  3. youtube is generally the best place for info and tutorials and learning “the exposure triangle” which is the fundamentals of what she needs to understand but can be a head fcuk... A good baseline would be to put in AV mode, set ISO to auto and she controls the aperture - F stops... F4 will give shallow depth of field - background all blurry and subject in focus as long as there’s distance between background and subject... F11 would give more depth of field - more background in focus with foreground/subject The lower the F number the more blurry The higher the
  4. Might be too late if already bought but worth buying smaller SD cards over one larger one... I would buy 2 x 16gb cards over 1 x 32gb, that way you always have a spare, also sometimes if you’re very unlucky they can end up corrupt/faulty... Just my way of doing things. Look forward to seeing some photos of what you capture.
  5. Whereabouts in the Borders are you Chev ??? i know a guy that photographs wild Goshawks in Jedburgh somewhere, spends about 200 hours a year to get maybe an hours worth of visits from the birds...
  6. Thank you... If you get stuck or got any questions just post on here or PM... If you’d have had it a few weeks ago you could’ve photographed the short eared owls, there’s been 6 hunting daily on the common of Zinc Works Road near Saltholme... I’m guessing quite local to you if you’re in Teesside...
  7. It’s certainly a good start if you are keen to learn photography or will work easily enough as a point and shoot in full auto mode, I started out with a Canon 600D about 5/6 years ago... Whilst it’s easy to put everything in full auto it is definitely worth learning what the camera is capable of and unleashing its potential so to speak as you’ll end up with far superior images - YouTube can be your best friend... Like I say I’m a Canon user, I’m certainly nowhere near professional but a very keen enthusiast - here are some of my images https://www.flickr.com/photos/94724826@N08/
  8. He’s certainly done more then £600 worth of damage ? https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/digger-driver-smashes-hotel-during-15711322.amp
  9. Thanks for all the comments/advice/replies and support... I have spoken to numerous professionals and associations etc about my situation, to cut things short, although my intentions are for the right reasons the council aren’t willing to back down and informed me that I don’t have permission and even if I had have seeked it, it would have been declined due to public liability, it not being accessible to wheelchair users and so on. I am going to take everything down this weekend but carry on feeding for the next few months until spring and when natural food is more readily available.
  10. Absolutely gutted - 5 months ago I started working on a wildlife/bird feeding station at my local “nature reserve” in a quiet and discrete area away from the well used tracks, using all resources and materials collected from the reserve itself (felled logs, moss, broken branches and twigs). Since September I’ve been buying bird and squirrel food and visiting every day since filling feeders and keeping the area tidy. I have now had a phone call and meeting with Northumberland Council who have informed me that I have no permission to hang bird feeders, put up nest boxes, erect or build perches a
  11. AV mode is kinda like semi auto - point and shoot.. Just means she has a little more control and will start understanding what she/the camera is doing... The beauty of digital is if photos are shite then just delete em, nothing to lose.
  12. I started out with a Canon EOS 600D which is the model down from what you’ve bought your wife... youtube is generally the best place for info and tutorials and learning “the exposure triangle” which is the fundamentals of what she needs to understand but can be a head fcuk... 14. Thanks Jok... Next time I’m down the quayside with the Mrs and not me camera I’ll have a look in and sample a pint ?
  15. Could be the Pitcher & Piano Jok as that’s just down from the millennium bridge ??? Although there a loads of pubs and bars down the quayside which step it up a level as it’s “the place to be” for a night out.
  16. Thanks Arry, it’s the one of the night that stood out to me too... All the best for 2019 to you and yours Arry.
  17. They get good reviews and feedback on FB.... Just google Dedito boot review. Surley worth a punt at that kinda money...
  18. When you’ve got an itch you’ve just gotta scratch...
  19. Thanks Chevinfox Thankfully they’re doing well in Northumberland and many groups helping towards their conservation and success ?
  20. All the best for 2019 pal, wherever you may be spending it ?
  21. Can’t even imagine really can you, I bet there’s some amazing memories and stories along with some sad ones too. I wonder what people that worked on it and are still alive now would make of the Northen Spire bridge and the way it was built in comparison to how they done things back in their day.
