sorry its picture heavy........so you can see the problem............all 3 spring are broken....and they are a funny shape..................they will all have to be cut by hand and shaped and thinned

first thing to do is to cut the riverts off with an old repoposed wood chisel......i had a good look at the shape of the finish on the rivert heads before i cut them off ...as i want to replicate the same shape when i put it back together again.......

that marlin spike is pinpoint sharp...and it has the old style can opener.....it also has a cutting awl........i will post the pics up as i go along......

my mate in acle gave me this old knife which he picked up in a box of bits at a car boot sale for a £5.oo quid........it is heavy and very well made.....the troulble was all the springs had snapped....and it was badly scratched and generally unloved...........i did a bit of research on it as i was surprised it was made in norwich....i rekon it was made just on the cusp of the invention of the first stainless steel (early 1900's).....the design is almost the same as the Boer War Officers horsknife which was made by the norwich company purely for the british cavalary.......... went onto an

it went back to the owner...and he sent /posted pics of him using it paring his sheeps feet.....it has been doing that for nigh on 100 years going back to his grandad........... so i was well chuffed......... -

starting to "match" it together now...getting the metal to wood fit right...im using bronze pins for the scales and steel for the spring fulcrum point and the blade hinge........ -

it was used as a shepards knife paring hoofs ....as it is still being used for that purpose this very day....i rekon it must be nearly 100 years old......the horn was totally knackered as you can see.......... -
those holes in the logs ...are they for bumble bees to lay their eggs ?

cut and shaped the blade on my old slow running 1930 linnisher...gave it a full scandi cut/grind both sides............and started to fit ebony scales to it.......... -
those /these knives ...can all be done with a small ammount of tools ....and well within the skill set of all folk on this forum..........................have a go ....ask questions ..

cheers............it didnt get a soak............just into the forge long and slow...and air cooled...then annealed as i said.....which has worked out fine.......its had a years hard use since i finished it...no probs yet prefer to work with O1 tho...... -

cant quite get them in order....but you get the idea.....my mate dave sent me a bit of D2....which is nice to work ...nice and soft....and when you harden it you bring it to temperature and let air harden....you dont quench it in water or oil....you get very little wharp using that spec steel....then it was annealed later as i will show............ ditch -
is that the one uncle he had shot with an anti aircraft gun............?
