i was close to buying that rifle off skanny but my heart was set on the winchester in the end. you have a bargain there as ive heard of loads of people about how accurate that rifle is and the best thing is it shoots the cheap privi ammo at 1/4 inch groups which is allways nice as its only 7 to 9 pound a box my winchester shoots it well to how long did it take you to get to devon mate ? i would have gone on boat from wales across to devon it would have been quicker mr logic you have a look on reviews on the savage rifles they have come out on top in all the tests ive seen

yes mate good to see the young ones getting into shooting and learning safety and handling of the rifles. -
there trying to make it legal for 22 mate but 22 centrefires that is 222,223and the 22/250 you can shoot cwd and muntjac here with them but not roe if you have it on ticket. yet in scotland the can shoot the above and roe with 22 centrefires as long as you use the right bullets im surprized they didnt add roe here for 22 centrefire rifles when they changed the law to use them here for cwd and muntjac does anyone no why they didnt ??? Roe WAS included up until the final reading of the Deer Act Amendment order 2007 when a question was asked about .22 CF's suitability for Roe.

went shooting with my mate and his little lad the other day. he set up his new annie 22lr he just got then we had a nice bit of shooting here is the rabbits below some are 3/4 grown which are the best for the pot i think. his little lad had two both head shots i was using my cz 22lr which i havent used for abit. so that was good to get out and shoot there so silent and fun to shoot im going to use it more often now here is one i had with my new 22/250 at 160 yards but i didnt take him as he was a bit ! messy over all a cracking days shooting with abit of plinking a

ive never had any bits in the rabbit meat from the hmr even with neck shots. there only way i think you would get it in there is if you hit him head on. i wouldnt worry if i where you if you are use the h point ammo
-
yes will fire 55 gr ok but will struggle abit with heavy ammo if you have 1in12 twist as it mite find it hard to stablise the bullet. so i would stick to 1in9 like welshdargon has with his that way you can shoot ligher 55 gr bullets and heavy bullets if you want to get more range or have a go at some targets at distance say use 69 gr bullets
-
have you zeroed the rifle yet mate how you get on ? did you get the ase in the end ?
-
Many Hunting tools have the light barrels, that is what we are talking about...they heat up loads whilst zeroing or target shooting ..that is the problem...not the odd shot when hunting! yep your right deker the barrel isnt really going to get hot when out shooting under hunting conditions. thats why when zeroing a hunting rifle take your time and if its hot let it cool down as you want it zeroed with a nice cool barrel. because when out in the field shooting at foxes or rabbits, crows, etc etc the barrel is going to be cold anyway at 1st
-
what you got to look at with a heavy barrel is yes it does take longer to heat up. BUT when it is hot a heavy barrel will take longer to cool down to to and if you keep shooting a rifle when its really hot isnt going to do the barrel life any favours to. fluted barrels are the best for getting rid of the heat. i find after you do have 5 or 6 shots with a heavy barrel the heat haze in the scope puts you off abit anyway. i would get a boreguide, rod, butches bore shine, and some patches and a nylon brush to, after 30 shots use this stuff, then carry on as normal and then when you finish

i just cant see anyone getting 40 foxes in a night !!! no matter how much land you have. for a start you wouldnt cover it all. then there is the matter that the fox has his own patch so 40 foxes in one area is abit of bullshit the guys in the countrymans weekly have put. some of these mags dont do us any favours. and can make hunters of what every style you do look bad sometimes
-
cheers jamie what do you use yourself. bushnell elite 4200 mate but its not fixed mag it 6x24x50 if i had the money and i liked fixed mag scopes then swaroski or s&b are the boys to have best thing you can do is go look at some and see which cross hair you like and suites your shooting
-
sad i could say the same about hunting with hounds in your stupid clothing !!!! dont come on the thread to stir up mate like i have said each to there own
-
40 in one night is alot of foxes i cant see that myself ! they would of had to have a lot of ground to shoot over as foxes have there own area they stick to so i couldnt see there being 40 foxes in one area. i dont like foxing with hounds to be honest but like you mite not like the shooting side of it so its each to there own. i no hunting with dogs has been around for years and years so alot of people find it as tradition and its like taking there hobby away from them like taking shooting away would be to a shooter. i just find with the rifle its more humane but thats just me h

have a feel of the barrel i think 4 to 5 shots is what i done then let it cooled down. as for zero set it up 100 yards take the bolt out and look down the bore then up at the scope you can get a good idea then where the bullet will hit on the board. it will also save you loads of ammo make sure the barrel is clean before set up let it cool in between 3,4 or 5 shots and once you have zero it will hold dont worry about that

Rabbit control with a added bonus
jamie g replied to young1982's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
i have shot rabbits at 90 to 100 yards with my 22lr so a head shot on a fox should seam easy as its a bigger target. but i still wouldnt take one at 100 yards 55 to 60 yards would be the limit for me with 22lr. with hmr i would go to 90 to 100 yards if i no i could pull the shot off. i had one at 55 yards a month or so back with hmr i waited till it turned its head to the side abit then aim for the bit between the eye and the ear. it went down like a sack of shit not one twich and it had gone right though him like mr logic said shot placement is everything i no for a fact a hm -
