  1. Read loads over the years but once i have read them that's it, We had a bloke come to fit a new boiler last year and he mentioned he was interested in running dogs, I gave him probably a copy of all Darcy`s books plus a shelf full of others and about 5 years of Earth dog Running dog magazines.
  2. Wasn't there a bookshop in Wales that specialised in sporting books of all description Coch-Y-Bonddu Books i think it was called. No idea if its still trading mind you.
  3. Tranny`s has to come before that ?
  4. Was once until the canal and river trust decided to employ a subcontractor to electro fish annually for the Zander, Strangly enough all the big carp have vanished over the years! maybe its the mink ?
  5. There's a marina near the local town. Boats moor up before and after it as there's a Pub and shop, on the opposite bank is an industrial estate, This estate has a KFC that is the other side of a hedge from the towpath, People off the boats were feeding the Water Voles on the bank, It was a colony of f***ing rats i kid you not, ? Just to make clear the pictures are water voles
  6. At the bottom of our garden is a bank of woodland, whilst i am standing at the back patio doors having a fag, i try to count the number of pigeons in the trees directly behind us, Now bear in mind all the leaves have fallen and pigeons are blue, I will start by spotting three by the time i am ready to chuck my dog end in the bucket i am usually well past the dozen mark, Squirrels are easier to spot laying up in trees by just concentrating on looking for slight tail movement, When we use to shoot the dray in February They would shoot out, up and then become motionless.
  7. I don't believe it was just the Mink mate. That metal stanchioning denied the voles access to there burrows along miles upon miles of canal, Otters are far more common than the average person on the street would believe, A lot like the big cat discussion. Its the same with Muntjac around here, its loaded with them yet i know people who have lived around here for years and years who when asked will tell you they have never seen one and almost call you a liar when you tell them there are loads ?
  8. The clay pit i am on about is 15 - 18ft deep in the side. I have a spot where i know there's a good chance of seeing one, Its where a local sewerage farms realises its warm sand filtered water back into a local river via a small tributary,
  9. Never seen a polecat on a canal here. Have seen a few large dog mink though, The metal stanchioning that they used to edge the canal here years ago, was directly responsible for the demise of the water Vole, Luckily they replaced it with wooden ones some years later and Voles are now becoming a common site. Otters use the canals as part of there nomadic lifestyle, There's a few ponds around here that are short distances overland from the canal that have had there fish stock decimated. One had grass carp in, that had been in there since i was a kid, They killed the lot within a fortnight. Since
  10. I believe the fact Stirling was allowed to operate the unit outside the constraints of the regular army was one of the reason it worked, The unit was originally a phantom regiment and those who created that Phantom regiment only wanted dead bodies to add some reality to its existence. You are correct that it was the Men who then made the unit what it was and its still the Men who make it what it remains today.
  11. Anyone wanting to see an otter just nip down to the local canal after dark and walk the towpath. They use the canal systems as highways and are full of one of there favourite foods, The signal cray.
  12. who the f**k goes into a hospital and looks at the fans ?
  13. what do you think lizard people eat FFS
  14. Had this thing a few weeks now, its only in the sub 12ftlbs version but by Christ is it accurate, Viper pro on it, hole on hole at 40yrds go out to 60yrds up 6 clicks and its back hole on hole gain, had 2 shots at squirrels in the back garden at the 30-40 yrd range both head shots both instant kills not even any hanging upside down for a few seconds or nothing. I took it up the local range the other weekend and actually got bored with shooting it, it was that accurate mate. If the mk3 with the large carbon bottle in FAC is anything like this then it would be some gun mate.
  15. My Rapid 20 could be made 12/24/42ftlbs by the turn an adjuster, Never did find a pellet in .20 cal that was heavy enough for the 42ftlbs setting but could alter the scope settings from 12 to 24 in seconds. still prefer my wildcat now though ?
