  2. Year 2000 and all the computer's and anything digital would stop working, What ever year the world was suppose to end according to the Mayan calendar, Brexit and how the country would implode. Yet to see one of these theories come to fruition yet,
  3. I did the same thing with a peregrine up above a magpie nest. The fuckers would not leave the blackthorn bush they were in, we could literally climb up and catch them but they would not fly out of that bush.

We would catch runners by hand whilst out with the terrier's, then walk them out into the field and drop them for the pups, Once seen a lad with one under each arm and one in each hand ?

    Rats

This was a spot 2 old boys used to feed the birds, at the side of a couple of picnic benches, They wouldn't believe me when i told them the embankment behind there feeders was now crawling with rats, These pictures were the proof ? I quite like rats even though i must have killed tens of thousands over the years one way or another. \they are the perfect example of adaptability in pursuit of survival.

  14. Slightly different to the topic But a couple of years ago i watched a Goldfinch collecting spiders web/silk off the top of our fence. I had no idea they did that.
  15. Seen a pair of Crows take a Jenny Wren off the nest and kill it.
  16. Sounds like they already had a buyer for your gear then mate,
  17. Such a shame the thieving little c**ts couldn't put as much effort into earning a living rather than stealing it off someone else.

    Winter days

Went out early this morning must have been a dozen moorhens under an old oak feeding, returned past the same tree 5 hours later and there's more Mallards than i could count under it, Must be feeding up on acorns.
  19. Mate of mine won a winter league match with a single 8lb sturgeon at Shakerstone and it was returned. The thing that gets me is match anglers moaning about zander then spending half the match drop shotting a worm on the far bank ?
  20. The thing that has changed fish stocks in the canal system is boats, When i was a kid the canals were pretty run down, Eroded tow paths that were impassable in places, Weed covered both the near and far margins, However they were dredged regularly usually by means of a sludge pump that would spray the silt onto bordering fields, Tench were seen rolling after spawning in the weeds and i mean a lot of them. The water was very clear. you could watch the shoals of perch from off the top of bridges. Then It started to change, Boating got more popular. The tow paths were improved and more moorings a
  21. Zander appeared around here since the late 1970`s that i know off. Electro fishing, as its done here annually, tends to remove the mid to large sized fish leaving the smaller zander, These smaller zander will feed on the smaller silvers and consequently will have an effect on future silver fish stocks, If they had left them alone then the population will/had controlled itself. This electro fishing is funded by Natural England, This money is paid to the CRT to protect an SSSI, But the thing is this SSSI is for flaora and Fauna along one 1/4 stretch of the Ashby canal yet they electro fish the
