saw 10 in 3 hrs one night the other week called 4 but only 2 came in, earlier in the season nothing was coming to the call at all, just sitting in hedge bottoms watching. so round here things are still looking good, plenty about but a tad shy. dont think its down to shooters but possibly the strange weather/light conditions that we seem to be getting this winter.

you lads must be getting alot of runs or else are out all night to be using batteries of that size. feck carring that about all night your alot fitter than i am i go for 3 or 4 hours and get away with a couple of 7amp ones on a webbing belt in old army water bottle holders with the wireing running through the belt.

ive got a dog here i bred 4 years ago hes the same, just senses what im thinking he not only whines but bounces higher than the run pannels on one spot by the door, thinking of renameing him tigger his sire and dam dont do it just him and when he collars something large he howls like a hound for a minute or two makes it easy to find him though

it is not against the law to shoot on a public footpath as long as you have the landowners consent to be there., although its not the brightest of ideas to be actually shooting off the footpath. there is no law against being on a footpath with a firearm aslong as you have the landowners permision, its the same as the not discharging a firearm within 50 feet of a highway its all bullshit the truth is it comes under the highways act and says you must not obstruct the flow of traffic. so if you say shoot a pheasent and it lands on the road and causes a car to stop/swerve then you are breaking t

could be were the wires go into the bulb holder there only held in by springs no solder, you have to unscrew the big reflector housing off then drill the pop rivit out to get at them

no way can you rate a dog on catch to slip ratio :laugh: theres abit more to it than that the dog that caught 20 from 100 could have ran on totally different terrain/conditions than the dog who did 10 from 12. and the latter could still be the better dog.

took the mutts for a walk around the village early this morning and there was some very large flocks of woodies comming out of the woods heading for the rape fields there were 200 to 300 in each flock coming over and they were coming one after another, you could see them forming up into massive flocks on the horizon, somebodys fields are in for a hammering today :laugh:

got to agree mate i couldnt tell you the weight of any of my dogs but i can tell if there loosing or gaining weight, if you know the look of your dog then your eyes will tell you if theres a problem if you know what i mean, as for numbers well dont mean alot anymore its just for the joy of it for me, if i wanted numbers i could drive the land with the rimfire and clear 100`s a night, but whot would be the point 2 days of boasting and a season with feck all left to run.

all my dogs retrieve to hand, i shoot with my lurchers aswell as run them, all retrieving has been taught with the aid of an older dog usually the pups father, ive never used a ball, dummy or any other man made object always fresh shot game, ive never thrown anything for my lurchers to retrieve. they are as much at home in a hide as they are on the lamp or working daytime. when working togeather double retrieves are the norm.
