  1. Personally, I've always like a 30 incher. The 32" gives a better sight picture but it takes longer to swing. So if she's moving quickly, it's hard to get the shot in before she's gone! As for gun choice, Berreta's definately aren't for me. If you've tried Browning and didn't like them, then I suggest researching which guns balance like Beretta and make them your shortlist.
  2. Can be like that sometime. I went on a Pheasant shoot that was small. Was invited, didn't have to pay a penny. Plenty of birds. The only problem there was they had 1 member who was an idiot. Told this before but he thought it was sensible to climb on top of a fallen tree trunk the top of which was a good 7 foot off the ground, and covered in moss with the gun cocked and loaded. He thought it would get him closer to the high birds!!!! It's not as if he didn't have 8 0 yards of height to play with using no6 shot. The inevitable happened, he slipped and fell and manged to discharge his gun into t
  3. I agree Meece. Many urbanites feed foxes in gardens. That's why they do so well and look so healthy. The ones that aren't are the ones in areas where they just get bin scraps.
  4. Interesting video from The Mail this morning. Apparently someone has a 2 legged fox visiting their garden and it's just as agile as a 4 legged one. Video here: Mail Online Videos: Top News & Viral Videos, Clips & Footage | Daily Mail Online WWW.DAILYMAIL.CO.UK A video of a dog walking on two legs has gone viral after a couple spotted it in their garden and posted a video to social media.
  5. I can't see a buy back. That said, it could also do a few favours because if rimmys disappear, everyone gets CF on their licence even for bunnys. Only issue there is ammo cost for bunny bashing. Some of the articles / reports I've read from the US seems to suggest the terminal effects are far superior to lead because the copper dumps the energy more efficiently. The issue seems to be with the small calibres and shottys. I have no real issue with CF's in the larger calibres. I think the issues are going to surround rimmy's and maybe small CF's such as .204 and air rifles. Unsure how .2
  6. With non toxic reportedly showing some better terminal results than lead, it appears that in small low energy calibres, they can be not as accurate. It appears the transition period may no longer long enough for small calibre bullets.
  7. Always fancied an Impact myself. I personally won't buy unless they change the law on FAC Air though. The problems of obtaining permissions are just too great and the risks of losing one having bought a £1.5K rifle, too large financially. IIt's ok if you're a game keeper, or shoot a lot with mutlipe permissions, but for someone whoi's more urban and occassional with maybe only 1 permission, it's a huge risk. It's ridiculous the smaller calibres ie .20 -.30 are on FAC as in danger terms, they're not much different to a shotgun in ultimate range. A shot gun will reach out to 90-100 yar
  8. Copper bullets are suppsoed to be on a par or even superior to lead. Shotgun ammo, is the big problem. Rifles don't seem to have much of an issue with now with modern copper alloys.
  9. Or get a .204 for fox. Hard to beat as a fox round and will outperform anything in the .22 range. Not quite true. The new round is more accuately .277 (Sig Fury) and has much higher pressures - 80,000 psi for military and I think 65,000 for civilian hunting tipped with a more normal 50,000psi for target solid rounds (from memory). You're correct that outwardly, the case size is similar to .308 although the hunting and military cases are 3 piece and partially steel rather than just brass (brass couldn't take the elevated pressure). For now the tipped hunting ammo is prohibi
  10. Winchester 101 is a lovely gun. I shot one quite a bit. Love Winchester as they balance like Browning. Pretty hard to tell them apart yet WInchester are only a fraction the price.
  11. That's good to know. At least it's increasing in popularity not waining. I wasn't a fan of .204 at 1st due to the splashing but once the ammos was sorted out, it's a thing of the past now and .204 is a sublime calibre. If I had an FAC and a need for a fox rifle, it would be my number 1 choice without doubt. As for the ladn of the free, expect to see a rush for 2.77 Sig Fury any day now that may alleviate the pressure on other calibres. It's the civilian version of the Sig 6.8 - the new US army calibre and with improvements over 5.56 and 6.5, plus with the traditional gravitation tow
  12. Even Astro Turfed... That is the Hilton of hides. Well done. Mines a champers Jeeves.
  13. I would agree on the .204. Terminal effect is sublime. I can see Deker's point from a professional pest controllers position. However, not everyone shoots foxes in gardens from 10 yds. If we're comparing apples to apples and talking typical CF usage of 120-350yds, then it's hard to see .204 getting beaten for stopping power because it just dumps the energy so efficiently. Fact is you can shoot anything with anything. There are people killing wild boar in the US with .22RF! It all comes down to range and usage and also some sense of humanity in the latter. For typical CF ranges, .204
  14. I was never a fan of the .204 at 1st due to it's propensity to splash with early ammo. But since it got sorted, I'm not sure there's a better fox round out there. The sheer explosive effect of the superfast bullet combined with the flat ballistics make it a real winner in my book. I'm not sure I've seen anything with better terminal effects although dead is dead. There is some argument that deader = more leaway with a bad shot though.
  15. It is about inclusivity. Just be aware the Police are very sensitive these days as Philpott says and although it may not necessarily exclude you, be aware as I said above, it may raise some questions as well. You only have to take a look at what's been happening in Devon and Cornwall to see how politically charged the situation is now.
  16. I agree Phil. It lost my membership. My poiint was IF the BASC are going to do anything about this as a point of principle, they should take on all the cases in a group action not just those of members because this goes beyond the problem of a couple of individuals to a problem of an attack on all shooting and gun ownership, and one that may be mirrored by other forces if it isn't addressed.
  17. Yeah whilst I can't comment on the BASC's actions. What I will say is that in my opinion, membership shouldn't matter here. This is a general attack on gun ownership, not individual owners.
  18. If they had any nouse, the BASC would challenge all the revokations without merit and then start a Group Action against D&C Police for damages, even if the shooters weren't members as this goes to a general attack on owneerhip not just an attack on individuals. That's the only way they'll be stopped, if it costs them a fotune in compensation. Unfortunately without that I fear other forces will start to follow D&C's actions.
  19. MP Luke Pollard to take on shadow minister of Armed Forces role - Plymouth Live WWW.PLYMOUTHHERALD.CO.UK He has been asked by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer to take on the role of shadow minister for the Armed Forces ????????????????????? Over the top and Charge them with your bananas boys.
  20. Sounds like the BASC need to give him an education on pest control, conservation and economics.
  21. Never shot a Browning Semi but I still believe out of the "ordinary" brands, Browning still make the best balanced shotties.
  22. Ha ha. Anyone know the law on rail guns?
  23. Just don't think you hear much about it now as it's no longer a new calibre. I'd buy the .17 over the .22 simply because if you're not handloading, there's factory ammo to be had in lovely V-Maxand it shoots a bit flatter and reaches a bit further. Hornet overall is an intersting calibre but it's kind of a funny calibre as it falls inbetween most other calibres. As a one size fits all compromise gun for rabbits not eaten and fox to 150-200yds, it's a good choice. However, it's a bit expensive on the rabbits and there are better choices for fox. I regard it as a kind of Urban SUV, n
  24. Air is more accurate no doubt. But I doubt the police are concered about pin point accuracy as much as the effect on target. If you can hit a balloon at 100yds, you could, if a crazed individual, hit a human head. Being able to shoot the centre out of a penny is of no consequence in those circumstances. FAC air is certainly dangerous but personally I still think that under 100ftlbs it's very similar to a shotgun in range and danger, less so close up, and at 150ft lbs, whilst it increases range over a shotty by reaching out to maybe around 150yds, it certainly doesn't have high levels of energy
