  1. I think someone stole it. Sad when you steal off kids.
  2. You shouldn't have got the .223 out to that lower one. Gives mouse guns a bad name. People will be shooting rats with them next after seeing that.
  3. Maybe he was the one who spun the carcass around then forgot. Old age does that.....? They say the camera never lies, so he may have turned it twice!
  4. It's an Aldi one. You might be able to find a manual or get some contact info for the manufacturer from that. In fact I see a UK helpline phone number on the side, get phoning! If you need to replace it, Machine Mart always seem to have pretty decent stuff, there are 2 under £100 and heavier duty one for £135 before you hit the expensive stuff: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/categories/?search=hoist
  5. Bet he's got a sore ring pull finger now.
  6. That's when you switch to the 24gr if you can still get them - 4,400 fps !!! 32 gr's a slow coach! Also, be interesting to see if SIg's new high pressure hybdrid ammo (80,000 psi) becomes more available to the public instead of just military. (Steel and brass hybrid case to withstand the higher pressures. It seems one new civilian calibre is already on the way: https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020/01/15/sig-sauer-introduce-277-fury/
  7. Yep and it's also far easier and more pleasant that getting held at gun point by an armed response team because some anti has reported a "terrorist" training in the country with a rifle. Might sound ridiculous, but there are plenty of tales of shooters being held at gunpoint. My own friend had an armed visit after someone reported him out shootingalbeit it wasn't very dramatic as they go. It's personal choice but gunpoint vs phone call, I knwo which I'd take.
  8. Not sure the missus is going to like what you did to her pleated curtains..... That said, looks like a nice gun and at least you took them down first.
  9. PO Ackley always used to swear by velocity and when you look at the results from .204, it's certainly one of the most destructive calibres. As for velocity, personally I tend towards the 40gr V Max for barrel life reasons. 3,880fps is still going some.
  10. There are rifles other than savage. I've seen no evidence it's any less effective than .22 Hornet in killing. In fact it retains more energy than .22 hornet at longer range. On the other side of the pond, it's regarded very highly and they even shoot 40lbs+ Coyotes with it, although some do run a short distance so I would't regard it humane or sutiable for such large prey.
  11. Can they actually stop you if you obey the law and social distancing? They could cause you issues if they decided to take action but ulitmately would it stand up? Guess it depends on whether you have the means to challenge them if seized or revoked. It's another illustration though as to why guidelines are useless. Every force simply makes their own rules. I'd like to see cast iron laws on licensing and huge penalties for forces that break them. That way both sides have to respect the law. I'd also like to see on the Licensee side, the jail provisions removed for most offences and replaced wit
  12. I'm not saying this is definitve, but if going .17, an example of some big mice: Old video now. Some on here have tried it. Ultimately little to choose between .17 H and .22 H. Obviously goes without saying the larger CF's have more range but it's a good mid range gun if you're lookign for flat shooting.
  13. So's a .243. I thought we were talking mouse calibres ie. 17. It's arguably the finest of the mainstream mouse calibres. If you want a real gun you go .243 / .203 / .22 Swift / .22-250.
  14. 200yds is fine for Hornet. HMR is the issue here. .243 is better though.
  15. Take the gravel out under / around the construction and use either that outdoor matting or bark. It provides a softer landing which is why councils now use it. In my day it was concrete!
  16. Pity the farmer hasn't got a bird scaring canon. That would soon get rid of those ramblers looking for peace and quiet if you set it to fire every 2 mins. Another way would have been a Ghetto blaster and some obnoxious loud music. Remember next time you go out, forget the fox caller and take the Ghetto with you. Maybe you need to invite these guys along with you with for socially distanced fox calling. BTW is that you on the bike at 52 secs and again at 1 min 21sec? Looks very cool. Just add a gun and you have an armoured vehicle.
  17. Yeah Ben. I've always supported the BASC but the whole insurance situation has angered me this year. I'm not going to say it again in detail as I've said it above but it's not the cover I'm willing to pay for. BASC has become far too greedy in my opinion. When I received a renewal breakdown from memory I believe the insurance premium formed less than £10 of the entire £82 membership fee. The idea they couldn't have paid for a policy costing eg £12 per head with no excess or a small excess and covered it themselves on behalf of members in the event of a claim, is alien to me. Also, if they'd ge
  18. Probably. Just never come across a group policy that requires a member to pay an excess. The BASC policy never required £500 previously and £82 a year subscription for what, a magazine worth about £4 four times a year? You're expected to pay £82 a year then another £500 for every licensing issue, with no guarantee of success or that the BASC won't drop the case? Just not justifiable in my mind. I used to pay £32 with totally free insurance cover. Now it's £82 plus £500. Not somewhere I'm going to put my money.
  19. Not usually on a group policy or if there is, the organisation often indemnifies you against the excess. I've never known a member of an organisation have to pay an excess to claim for legal cover under their organisation. That's what you pay membership for. Most groups indemnify you against all costs. BASC insurance never had an excess before that I remember. Either way, £500 is just ridiculous. An example of someone buying a policy at the cheapest possible price to make the most profit in my opinion. It's certainly the last time I buy BASC membership. I'll go it alone and do my own defence o
  20. You have some cunning foxes their, eating your ammunition to stop themselvbes from getting shot. I guess that one must have bitten down too hard. ?
  21. Open a real can of worms: https://www.nationalsheep.org.uk/dog-owners/advice-for-farmers/2486/destroying-dogs-that-attack/ Does ALOQ cover dogs? Not sure. EIther way, you cert's under review and a risk of you being prosecuted for unessary suffering if not instant. Another classic British law that protects the criminal.
  22. The UK rules are strange and based on a fear that if someone goes crazy, they'll shoot you deader if the calibre is larger. Of course, it doesn't really work that way as once you get in CF's, most aren't that survivable at close range anyway so it makes little difference whether it's a .308 or a 50 bmg. One may destroy more than the other, but either way once you reach the point of lethality, dead is dead. As the shooting organisations often say, it's the person who needs to be vetted not the calibre, but the fear of larger calibres still persists in the UK. eg. despite the prevalence of .50 b
  23. There's plenty of regions where you'd struggle get .308 for fox. My own region now grants CF for fox, (don't know about .308), but at one time, wouldn't grant anything above .22lr for the 1st 3 years of FAC ownership irrespective of what you wanted to shoot. It was a rigid rule. There are plenty of people on here who have posted difficulties with obtaining CF from their region and have posted their region won't grant even .243 over .223. The problem is exactly what Derv mentioned above, they're guidlines and unfortunately guidelines cut both ways esepcially when one party has unlimited funding
