  5. If you have the aim and reactions of a robot possibly shotguns spread the shot and therefore allow for a margin of error and mean that you can shoot at moving targets, unlike airrifles which are really stalking/precision weapons with 1 pellet instead of several hundred

  8. Probably not quite that simple (,any sort of stress can cause the internal abortion thingy at any time of year)but whatever the cause it helps the survival of prime breeding does in times of adversity and saves them the time and energy involved in rearing unviable litters. Thanks for the kind comments.I'm off to put my anorak back on. I realise its not that simple, i was simplifying it for everyone to grasp what you were implying. Its a very valid point though I'll get my anorak as well!
  9. Thats exactly what my ferreting partner did and he used the pipe to join two hutches together, one he already had and an old hutch i gave him! he still had some off cut, which is in my big hutch and which i hide food in for my ferrets to find!
  10. Comanche seems to be a well read man.....who has taken the moto "know thy enemy" literally, well done that man and some cracking points, i haven't been ferreting as long as you, only nearly 20 years, i knew of the re-absorbtion thing but never put 2 and 2 together......the does with the small young inside are just taking a chance and if the weather stays cold they wont drop them, makes sense now but i never thought in that way! 14. It is, it gave me a little shelter once i had picked up the nets...it also has about 40 yards of rope bridge that take it upto the garden
  15. Went ferreting this morning, the intention was to have a long day and catch a decent haul of bunnies, the butcher wanted as many as i could take and i had longer today to go ferreting, so with ferrets and nets (as well as a packed lunch) off i went. Arrived at the farm and thought about doing the biggest warren that i had left on this farm, it would have needed the longnet as well as the pursenets, however when i got to it, the weather was a bit wild and windy so i thought i would do the slightly smaller warren that i could just do with the pursenets. 30 nets down 4 rabbits o

  19. That's because it's warmer down here Compo. The forcast is snow over the hill just to the north of me but it will be warm and mild here on the coast. Mike I didn't feel it was necessary to state the obvious Compo JulTaylor....daffies and snowdrops rearing their heads in theneighbours garden.........in fact i found a flowering plant whilst ferreting in November!! November flower Dont know what it is Oldblueeye did on another website and stated it shouldn't be flowering during the winter
  20. Between christmas and the new year had does in season, beginning of January had baby rabbits they looked about 5 weeks old. Funnily enough they seem to breed sooner on one farm than the rest of mine?? and there is only a couple of miles eperating the farms, today had a couple with small blobs inside them! i started ferreting in Yorkshire and now ferretin in the south,Bedfordshire,Buckinghamshire,Oxfordshire,Northamptonshire and Warwickshire and they tend to breed more and all year down here than they do up north!
  21. There is an exception to every rule, and genetics are not that straight forward, perhaps yours threw more to teh tame ferret, or the wild polecat was not a wild polecat but a feral polecat coloured ferret?
  22. i myself have three different colours within my 5 ferrets. however i dont have any Polecats.....i have polecat coloured ferrets but not wild polecats cross domestic ferrets which is what the lad was on about I have a mate whose Black, he couldn't survive in the african bush, but he looks just like the lads who can!
  23. After the school run went up to one of my farms to do a hedge that i had been putting off, there are a lot of holes and i know not many rabbits along this hedge/fence line between two of my permissions, it needed doing to keep the landowners happy and anyway at this time of year i am running out of decent bits of land so with 40 nets, and 2 ferrets off i went, i got to the first set at 9.30am first warren about 20 nets, and two cleanly bolted rabbits moved down the hedge to where this hedge borders another farm nearer the farm yard ( i also have permission on the bordering
  24. Ferrets are bred to be slower and more methodical in their searching, thus bolting the rabbits. Polecats need to be faster and catch and kill the rabbits to eat, thus meaning you would have a crap working ferret and would be digging fecking holes all the time to partially eaten rabbits, rather than bolting and catching clean rabbits. What next wolf x greyhound lurchers???
  25. Very interesting, i like the point about gun ownership, to sum that up "outlaw guns and then only the outlaws have guns" The last school shooting in america, the NRA made a statement, "if guns weren't banned in schools this wouldn't have happened" (they meant a law abiding teacher or pupil with a legally held handgun woiuld have shot back!) Funny as well how APBT are banned and then the same dogs are still around just called different things New Labour are good at passing these kind of laws, without considering how to enforce them or whether they are necessary to be enforced in a
