  1. What's the difference between a dead deer in the road and a dead Paki in the road? The deer has skid marks leading up to it !

  2. What's wrong with dispatch with an air pistol? I've used a .22 hurricane for years to deal with small vermin in cage traps. A back to front RWS hobby usually does the job I meant the modern 6ft/lb pistols, mate.
  3. I always thought 'poisonous mushrooms' meant 'make you a bit poorly' or 'give you bad guts for a couple of days', that kind of thing............................... Only recently, I found out it actually means ' die in agony, with no known antidote' !! In the name of all that's holy, be careful Steve !!
  4. 500 years of naval history and heritage...........................gone ! What the hell has happened to this country?
  5. Well I've used all them plenty but I accept most don't but if state education didn't teach these things where would all our scientists and engineers come from? As I've said, education isn't about imprinting facts, formula and dates in your head, it's about training the mind to function effectively and giving a child a well rounded 'introduction' to the world. And coming back to the topic of learning about foreign cultures, I personally feel it is important to at least touch on these things because todays world is a lot smaller than it once was and the majority of todays children will at some p
  6. I left school 34 years ago, and I've had to work out the area of a circle.................................once. The height of an object using Pythagorus' theorum..............................................................never. The missing angle of a triangle.............................................................................................never. The combined speed of 2 passing trains...............................................................................never. The speed of a falling object 6 secs after being dropped......................................................n

  9. dry it manually as much as you can. What you need is a dehumidifier - the drying carpet could cause damp in a confined space ! OR Lay your hands on a wet and dry vac and suck the water up ! OR both of the above !!
  10. I'll tell you a few even stranger bits of maths...................... UK aid to India this year - £280 million India's aid to other countries this year - £300 million. They have the 11th largest economy in the world, nuclear power stations and weapons and every year spend £700 million of their own money tackling their own poverty issues. Aid to India is due to cease in 2015, but in the years 2010 - 2015, Britain alone will have kindly donated £1.2 billion ! Anyone have one good reason why we are still giving them a single penny?
  11. From what I have heard that's been done dozens of times by several different people, resulting in a lot of shouting matches and her boasting again about holidays. The authorities won't do anything since they have water available when they go round, I also heard someone let the dogs out before and now she keeps them padlocked 24/7. But the person I know said they were particular concerned last winter because they don't have any heating or real shelter so it isn't even dry, but as long as they have water it's OK by the law. Essentially she isn't doing anything illegal, but I don't really car
  12. Kranky 1 The rest of us 0 - panel result 'Home win'
  13. Just to be clear,I never said Diwali was on a history syllabus............................. Diwali is not just a religious festival - it also marks the beginning of the Indian financial year. Enough knowledge of other cultures and economics for you ? (I'm being sarky,BH!)
  14. To widen the debate slightly, why do we teach children, from a young age, the finer points of Diwali and the like, yet they are told little of English (and indeed British) history. What are they taught of the likes of Wellington, Nelson, Cromwell or the mighty Churchill? When King Richard III's remains were identified recently, it was said on the news that he was the last English monarch to lead his troops into battle and the last monarch to die in battle - but how many knew that before it was reported? But it's not only about the well-known figures, and English (and British) history
  15. Why don't you have a go yourself? There's plenty of advice to be had here.......................................
  16. I know what they're for, mate. That's the bit I didn't like.............call me 'sensitive' but (sharp intake of breath)
  17. any details you could share Banter - that's what my old Mum says bonfire night amounts to ! (Though I'm a committed aetheist, I'm from a Catholic family BTW.)
  18. And they reckon there's no money about....................
  19. ........................makes you wonder why he wants to learn to fly a plane !
  20. Let's all have a big party and celebrate with the ritual burning of a Catholic...............hate crime !!
  21. If the auction lot is even a fraction as nice as this one, it'll make you a nice few quid, mate !
  22. Nice shooting, K ! I've only fired 'man-made's', but I'd love to try one of those. Just one thing........................castration rings ??? Don't like the sound of them !
  23. Strictly speaking, it's perry. Cider is made from apples, perry from pears. ('Scuse the nit-picking!) There's a gang of chaps in the market square who seem very fond of 'Tesco Everyday Value Cider'.
