Exactly, what's the problem? A course is always preferable to picking up a squatter. What about when the butcher wants all the rabbits you can catch, and will pay 3 quid each for them ? Get a gun or ferret them, lurchers are for sport imo..... One type of rabbit provides better sport than the other imo, lol -

Ha Ha Ha, I'll let you into a little secret that'll allow you to step up a league, add half a rennie to your dogs feed for the couple of days leading up to the acid test, then you'll be on your way to Wideman status.

Not as much of an enemy as a disinterested owner who does'nt care what conditions they run their dogs under, years ago i would start coursing at the end of august, these years the fields are like bell metal until about the end of october/early november

I know what you mean Tomo, i get up around some heather moors myself, and it can be a hard slog, and the hidden drainage channels can be an accident waiting to happen, was thinking of the way gardeners add peat to their heavy clay to lighten it, and get the breadcrumb structure, got me thinking what would the fens be like if they had heavy clay soil, as in would it be harder going for the dogs once the heavy rains had been

This reminds me of bobzas saluki lurcher, last season he was boxing them when he could have brought the run to a stop, this dog is a real running machine, even when just out for a walk he'll run all over, and take the other younger dogs on a tour of the land, he's been worked very hard, and has a serious catch rate, funny thing is he was six at the time aswell, i put it down to the dogs love of running -
Well Fuji the runs down on the fens can go on for a good few minutes, and from what i've seen on the dvd's they usually result in the dog making a catch, whereas my runs are condensed down into a much shorter time, and the dog has to get to work sharpish, and there is no light weight peat soil up here

Who took the game out of your pie, no followers here shroom, i'm too busy drifting around the heavy northumbrian arable trying to prevent the big engined one from blowing her stack -
Just got back from lamping, and i was thinking about the condition of the fields, people talk about how testing it is for a dog on the black land or the sandy land of the fens, well after wading through the glue like sticky clay fields of northumberland for the last five hours, and hearing my bitch having to haul herself over this terrain, i cannot imagine any soil type being any more energy sapping than what we've had to contend with this morning, anyone else got any thoughts on this ?

Tracker is a low protein feed for dogs in resting, pups need a higher protein feed like the Racer, mixed with some minced chicken, beef, lamb etc

Once you've had a lurcher it's very hard not to want them for life, a beddy whippet would be a good choice, my mate has a plummer bitch i reckon she would get mugged by a decent sized rat lol -

Who's got time for taking photos with all these scrumptious vittles on the go ? Lol -
Sounds like the smell of teen spirit is long gone for you aswell then eh Morton Those halcyon days of youthful exuberance and the less restrictive hunting lifestyle afforded then are a distant memory, ive nothing but admiration for the genuine youngsters about now that still ply their hunting trade in the political climate now, nearly tripped over my Zimmer frame with the tears in my eyes. I've got a few bundles of well seasoned hazel out the back, if you want me to knock the dust of a stick, and paint it white, i'll send it down no charge lol

Waterloo Cup Ground Under Threat..!
low plains drifter replied to Bosun11's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The last bit of greenbelt local to me was supposed to be protected, but i hear 3000 houses are going to be built on there, there is a few protest banners being put on fences, but when i saw the new drainage systems going in a few years ago, i thought it might not be too long before the money men got their way, selfish f****n parasites -

That high performance jukel is wasted on you, no good getting that sort of breeding unless you're going to put it behind strong sporting quarry, how about an exchange for a hancock flyballer ? -
That's interesting mate, i thought they were around southern lincolnshire and down south from there, good to hear they are making their way up the country, like to see them, aswell as CWD... Cheers
