  1. I missed it but found it on his F-word site & saw it. It was good & i like what gordon is doing for our game & venison etc to open the puplic eye. We do get very odd snow geese in scotland but we cant shoot them but we have pinkfeet geese by the thousands. Think i should email gordon & get him up here to see & try them i prsonally like the pinks/greys to eat.

    hevi-shot

Trust me it wont be long when you move back to hevi-shot as to be honest steel is piss poor & shouls be banned. Ok its better homeloaded but to me for geese steel just aint up to the job even in BBB compared with No.3 hevi-shot. I have never seen so many pricked & wounded geese in my life till the lead ban came in & fowlers with years of experience still have ago at high geese. M Robson is correct the 3.1/2" 12bore changed the fowling world & homeloaded are very good & take good loads of hevi-shot to give you good pellet count in a cartridge. Even the 3" hevi-shot loads kil
  3. Hi sorry to go down this route but why did you buy a pup/breed you know so little about then ask the questions?. Will you work this cocker? is it for your shooting? as by the sounds your are lucky with the quality of dog you have & you might have bought a show bred cocker by mistake & never have knowen it. Some of the welsh lines are some of the best & the back bone of many cockers today as the breed sufferd bad after world war 2. Thanks to a dedicated few they brought them back as they can be a fantastic little dogs but i would not recomend as a first dog to train as they can take
  4. Im looking for advice on how to remove the k-off system for adjusting the shim's etc. Or dose anybody know if i can get a new shorter k-off frame to adjust the length of pull as with the gel tek pad off the urika comes up great for me & i would like to keep it original with the gel tek pad on & i need to reduce it 20mm max. I dont fancy having to phone GMK as i find the unhelpful.
  5. Far from it they are looking for new members every year & most of the members are from england as associate members. They keep them selfs to them selfs with very little club events BBQ etc. In their first 10 months ESAWC has ran the following events for its membership, 1, Clay shoot including "big bore" flush and BBQ. 2, Familliarisation visit to Montrose Basin. 3, Summer fly fishing outing. 4, Gundog day with BBQ. 5, Summer Sea fishing outing. 6, Young Shots driven game day. 7, A stand at Cardross Game fair. 8, A raffle for a 250 bird driven day. 9, An online auction
  6. Some good advice there & the last bit is so true even with all the tests done its a total lottery with a pup. Look for the hip & current eye test minimum & see the dam & how they bred from & why & try see the sire or pics. I do like them with dark eyes personally but i sex it & then get all that sex i like together & give it ten mins whaching them but to be honest i breed my own & get the chance to see them day by day & see the pup that sticks out to me. You have such an impact on that pups life when you take it home that its how you bring them on that m
  7. Very nice & well done i was looking into it but to pricie for me. Your 100th guy opperates as one of the biggest goose guides in montrose area & has upset a few locals hence you can join the montrose wildfowling club tomorrow if you wanted. A club like that should have new members waitting on a member to die to get in but they struggle to keep fowlers. Its such a pitty as its club with MASSIVE POTENTUAL & some fantastic fowling they/we locals dont know how lucky we are to have this for now.

    Hevi-shot

Thanks all i was thinking quarter to half choke & half is my favourite choke & my main choke i work in my auto's. The guy i saw had full in & i said to back it off but he said he had done that & not got on well with it.
  9. Very nice Moo she looks a cracker but i know how you feel about the gundog world but tell your mate to keep the pedigree & if you breed register them & give them to select mates. Its all about traceablety within the breed as they are starting to suffer from genetic probs & through select breeding & testing we can keep the breeds going. I hate to see good pedigree dogs go unregisterd due to peoples personal opinions & its a good dog/line wasted keep the pedigree in the breeders hands till you need them it would be a waste. I wouldent look to be doing out with her next year t
  10. This I know but not all bucks have read this rule Very true they dont all read the books & is one of the first things i teach people under me to help them age them when the change is on with coat change & antler velvet shed. I have been beating alot lately & seen quite a few of the younger bucks 1-3yrs roughly are still in hard horn.

    Hevi-shot

Hi i have read a wee bit into this hevi-shot stuff & not really found much on what chokes to recomend. For those of you that use it what do you recomend for the 3" 34g No.3 hevi-shot??. I read it patterns well & quite tight & dont want to have to pattern it personally. It will be used in a beretta urika mk2 & i have just seen this stuff perform through a haston escort in full choke & wow it folds geese like iv never seen in 21yrs & yes i know you need to point it in the right direction. Iv got some hevi-shot as im just not enjoying this steel in what options i have with
  12. The 222 was my first cf rifle & i had an estate rifle in a bruno fox it was great rifle i shot alot of roe & foxes with it. The 222 was at its limit with the roe at 250m IMHO but a great wee round for fox/roe/crows etc & nice to homeload. I am a velocity chaser so now have the real mans .224 cf in a 22.250 & wont change that for nothing other than an AI22.250
  13. Hi i use sneyd's Wonderdog in the original mix which is 24% protein. I have used the extra cod liver oil mix to but mainly use the original & used it for 5yrs + & get it for £10 for 15kg.
  14. Go to your local farmers store like HARBRO etc & get ultra violet spray for the feet of hoofed animals but it is great on dogs. Its a sanitizing cleaner & has worked wonders for me & i use it on cuts etc over the body too. It is a purple spray so dont let the dog in the house or jump up on you once done.
  15. Hi i personally think they have a place but not round the neck of a dog under a year even 2yrs of age. I see to many people use them full time all day to work there dogs & to me that is a no,no. I dont see why people just dont train the dog first or seek advice as it is relativly easy to train cocker/ess or lab from my own experience to a steady standard for the field. It is when you start the dogs apprenticeship as i call it doing its first year of work that it all starts to come together & the dog starts to come on. Then say by 2-4yrs of age that the dog learns bad habbits & lear
  16. Hi as said its the long term damage you do down the line years later so protect what you have. They say a shot from the 12g is the same as a jumbo jet taking off. I am the same as sauer & wear the electronic slim line ear defenders & they improve your hearing with the stereo sound if you at ducks in the evening or walked up you even hear woodcock getting up it like having dog hearing. On that point i have a 12yrs old yellow lab dog & he has been well shot over & is now very deff.

Remington Sportsman, Gamebore Mammoth and Lyalvale Hevishot. Why a 3" Why not a 3.5"? As said above i use remington sportsman hight speed steel in No.2 & have gamebore mammoth No.1-3. 8bore whats wrong with a 3" for coastal work??. I use it as most 3.5" chambers auto's will only cycle 23/4" cartridges & up due to chamber size & a 3" will do 21/2" carts no probs most of the time. I know some who load & they have dropped back to a 3" homeloaded cartridge as they find it a better/faster/harder hitting combo at the geese. Hi not been on for a while & if you refer
  18. Hi no problem with no firearms as you will be guided so dont worrie about the rifle bit or that. You could do red hinds on the hill & hill roe or do lowland roe does. A day at hinds is about £150 a day & the roe does is £70-£100 an outing/day as roe are normally stalked first & last light & hinds is through the day on the hill. There are plenty estate's/stalking to let or you might even find a stalker on here from your area offer a day to you. Do you know any pheasant estates near you as they will have roe try them.

  21. I wish it were that easy John I've got the all the guns and equipment, but it's finding the land and the people thats the hard part! Just wish a knew a farmer or two! I've been invited to join a moose hunting team next year, so hopefully that will open a door or two and I'll make some good contacts Then we might be able to arrange some trips over for you UK'ers. I know a few Norwegians who would love to bag a Munty, they're goetting bored of roe, red, fallow and moose! :11: What a f**king idiot please do not follow his lead he is clueless an axe & hammer a no,no. Did you
  22. Cracking head but i dont see how it could be classed for medal stateus when out of a park.
  23. Hi it looks as though your stag had a fight that cracked/broke his pedicle or part of skull & will be quite a fresh wound from the rut & he dose not look an old lad either or an old lad that is going well back going by body condition but he is in the best place now & a very good stag to cull.
  24. Hi i have reloaded for 12yrs & cant fault the lee stuff other than there presses which are ok. I work an RCBS rockchucker but want a Lyman T-Mag but other than that my loading tools ie chamfur tool/cutter/flash hole tool/case length gauge etc are all lee. I worked lee dies for10yrs & changed to RCBS but after a month with them changed back to Lee Deluxe dies IMHO RCBS are s**t & cant fault my dies nor accuracy i get & i load the 22.250 as well.
  25. Nice & well done to you on your duck shooting. Do you not have a night out with no gun to watch the pond to see whats comming in???. Or did you not know buy the amount of feed you were putting out that there was a few duck comming in??? if your feed was going fast.
