  1. never lost a ferret " touch wood ". i always free feed them & never starve them. the longest ive had to wait before one of my ferrets showed was about an hour. when my ferrets stay down i always pick them up on the locator running around doing the biz, they then surface with blood on their face so i know they kill under but dont stay. i also make it a habit to go out with a few live traps just incase i ever have to leave them there.
  2. top bloke, 100% geniune.

  3. i occassionally take my shottie out with me for a change, but more end up getting away than i hit. now i cheat by throwing the long net out to catch the ones i miss.. is that bottom one the beretta xtrema 2 ? there suspose to be the nuts.
  4. youre welcome... when in doubt, call the experts. either DEFRA or BASC. richie
  5. ive been noticing young for a couple of monthe now. i ferret all year round, the young still grow to biggens, might aswell get them whilst their young aswell, & the farmers wouldnt be too pleased if i said i could only ferret seasonal. if i come across over grown areas i get there the week before & get the petrol hedge cutters out to thin sections. richie
  6. i contacted defra today & got put through to there wild life unit. i spoke to a bloke called Arnold Tucker & asked him about the situation if a badger set was close to a warren as discussed above. i said i heard that their is a rule that no ferrets could be worked, traps be laid & so on within 250yrds of a badger set... he said that he has not heard of any such law/rule but said that anyone tampering, ect ect with a badger set would be breaking the law & be liable for prosecution. he gave me a number of a lady who deals with badger legislation & any law that covers
  7. i came across the same situation.. i was doing a recce on a section that stretches out 75yds that is riddled with rabbit activity, must be 60/70 holes all with rabbit droppings left at every entrance.. i noticed 2 wide/low entrances that were spaced out 25yds or so but didnt look like there was any fresh badger activity. went back a few weeks back & saw freshly dug earth that had been dragged out with straw & bedding that had dragged in, after seeing this i decided not to work this set just incase the rabbit warren linked to the badger set. ditch what you were told, is that gos
  8. do any of you lads make longnets to order ? thanks in advance. richie
  9. nylon.... cheap, & do the job .
  10. so far we all have the same opinion, wait a few weeks before working it, even if the manufacturers say 48 hours. you wouldnt get any of the sales reps putting their head down a recently opened entrance to a bury 2 days after it has been gassed taking a big breath , they probably wouldnt do it after a week or so.. i would expect the same for my ferrets.. bigredbusa when was it gassed ? did you ask her ?
  11. there you go... http://www.killgerm.com/contact.php?PHPSES...7a3e2263dc0a2ab
  12. i done a course with killgerm for safe handling & use of phostoxin.. killgerm & rentokil recommend: children, domestic & farm animals should be kept away from the treated area for at least 2 days to prevent any possibility of the tablets being dug up whilst they are active. obviously decomposing time depends on different temperatures. personally if im ever asked to use the gassing method it would only be a last resort & no other option left, & i wouldnt be using it near any residential areas !. all i takes is for a rabbit to dig its way back in or out if
  13. eb@y.com item number: 290160219201 $54.99 / £28 + pp always the way, shame i didnt notice this before.. but like i said earlier, its just the bollock ache of having to send it away if it had a fault, & would they honour it ?. richie
  14. ive just called HUDSONS in the states & spoke to their sales rep. its the exact same unit just with a different name. price for one unit: $55 plus postage ? the only problem with that would be if like me you had to send the unit back for a fault or repair..
  15. gary, sounds like you got a good team going there.. spoke to arthur carters today & they have sent me a new one as they could not get it started due to a gas flow problem.. lets see how this one goes ! richie
  16. gary like you, i heard a few people say that they wernt all that but still decided to get one. im not going to say there totally shite just yet as i have a faulty one. when i get mine back or a new replacement, that is when i can give it the test & see what the outcome is. failing that ill be demanding my money back from the suppliers..
  17. personally, i would hold fire for a while. i noticed that their was an adjuster at the rear to change how much gas is released when the bottle is screwed in. CARTERS said it might need adjusting, not the on / off dial, but the brass rod that opens the bottle valve. like i say, to me i reckon it is a problem with the gas flow. knowing my luck, i got a faulty one ! richie
  18. thought id put this up as someone has just asked about one... i bought one the other day as im just starting to get into ratting & put it to use on sunday. for the first four hours it was working great with out any problems. i had it turned off for a while whilst we had a break, then after 30 minutes or so i started it back up again " by this time the weather turned, it got windier & started to drizzle", it ignited for about 5 seconds & then went out. i tried to start it again over the next half an hour but it wouldnt have it, even by placing a lighter underneath where
