  2. They have some good battles, one scrap almost lasted an hour the other night, started to turn a bit serious towards the end haha
  3. Norseman, assuming you don't have an entire hob. Why not give them a run in a room of the house? Can't leave anything lying as they will tip it and knock it. But a room of bare furniture will give them loads of exercise. Mine leap from chair to table and climb all day.... Granted they do know what a litter box is haha
  4. Ferrets of excess will go very cheap at fairs and auctions. Unwanted breeding stock . Id expect to pay a tenner for a kit otherwise. Wouldn't sell any of mine. But if i decided to give them up they would go to a home for free, assuming it was a good home and i knew the guy well enough to trust them with them. But good you've got yours now. All the best with them, have fun!
  5. Ah, well, mines looks nothing like that. Mine looks like a big joiners file haha. Maybe been taken for a fool. Anybody carry a cleaver about? Haha, to dock the rabbits head and legs for skinning? Cant be bothered with the stink in my kitchen, makes me bowk! Might take a chopping board and cleaver out with me next season and sort them out on site.... Anyone else?
  6. Haha. I had a jill last season who was very bold outside.... but wouldn't go down holes. If i push my arm down a hole with her she would pop out another, tangle the net, then gallop under the hedge and away. Pain in the arse!
  7. Haha, some can be quick to run.... but luckily mine aren't
  8. Haha, yeah, sorry, but is there different types etc? Got a long one that doesnt seem to be making a diff
  9. Yeah ferrets go where they want to. Cant beat the old leather H shapes. Tried other cheap ones - they don't alter small enough, even for my hob, break or the ferret gets out of it. Plus tying them up would just result in a big tangled mess i would imagine?
  10. Not always the best in my experience, when I took them fr their jabs the young vet had never even seen a ferret before!! He had to look up the dosage in the book and was not confident even holding them!! Had my jill implanted yesterday and the vet that done it didn't have a clue about ferrets, had to ask me about which implant to use! Thankfully i'm a forum whore and do my own ferret educating!
  11. I just take mine out into an empty field, open the cat carrier and have a smoke, they dont go far haha.
  12. I had an albino hob that lived until about 13. Some people think albinos generally have poorer eyesight, not totally blind though haha. All ferrets have poor eyesight unless up close.
  13. Whats the best way to sharpen a knife?
  14. Just get some olive oil haha, but letting them lick from your fingers/hands can help.
  15. The kit I have at the moment isn't too bad, she knows by the tone of my voice when I say NO she's doing something wrong and stops. My jill kit from last year was a nightmare, she had a terrible temper on her, hissing and biting hard. I have them out in the living room everyday and if she bit me id say no then put her into the cat carrier for 3-5 minutes, like a sort of jail. Then take her out and handle her a little, if she bit again she would go straight back in for another 3-5. She soon learnt biting me meant she missed out on her playtimes.
  16. Herd stories of people rushing them to the vets only for them to stretch and yawn haha
  17. It does look a bit skinny. Has a bit of a black footed ferret look, haha
  18. A sharp No! or OI! Works for me.
  19. I take it mixys usually bolt ok then? Id have guessed the ferrets would have a better chance of killing them in?
  20. Scrapped back yeah. The farmer didn't know what may be using it. Said he's having trouble with foxes though. Certainly lots of signs of rabbit by it too and loads of smaller holes around it up and down the hedge, but I didn't want to give it a go just incase.
  21. Anyone know of a good book for identifying footprints, hair etc for brittish wildlife. Something to help me identify what's using certain holes etc Had a questionable hole on a permission in a hedgerow the farmer wanted me clear out. Looked to me like a route for something to get under and past the hedge. But the earth was kicked a good meter back out the hole and the hole itself was quite big. Footprints looked like a fox or badger, I couldn't be sure, maybe just the farmers terrier. A small book I could take with me would be useful.
  22. Id say bordom too, perhaps a bit more space would help too. If I have mine in the smaller cage they do that alot, but if they are in the bigger cage with the tubes and balls they don't. Could you add a run or something?
  23. About £16 a month. Pets at homes stuff comes to about £12 or something but is quite dusty. I use about 40 litres a month. If I wasn't so lazy and scooped it rather than just pour away a refill it it might last longer haha.
