  1. In my experience, yes. My past hobs have the strength to wrestle the rabbits down, my current jill puts up a good fight but hasn't been enough to stop the rabbit. My jills the winner, no digging
  2. I'd be worried about how easy it would be to clean without having an opening level with the ground.
  3. Only think id be worried about is a ferret killing in or just not coming out the hole. Don't want the dark to catch up with you.
  4. Good point, there's a video of a ferret climbing a brick wall on YouTube I'm sure. Might have to have a bit of an over hand then screw a plastic sheet into the brick wall.
  5. Alot of people go for chicken runs. Lots of different kinds not costing much more than 100quid. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XXL-LARGE-12FT-COCOON-CHICKEN-HEN-HOUSE-COOP-POULTRY-ARK-RUN-/251241903964?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry&hash=item3a7f2f375c
  6. Hahaha, theyve spent time quietly setting nets, not banging the ground or talking loudly so the rabbits are not scared to bolt and the ferrets dont kill in. Then.........
  7. Castration or implant. Eunuchs are peaceful.
  8. Can imagine how you are feeling. I keep mine indoors and still come home from work each day and quickly check on them first. Id end up in the cells if i caught anyone tampering with or around my ferrets.
  9. .... Then fire the ferret back down the hole with extra motivation of it thinking the rabbit ran away haha
  10. Kill the rabbit then lay it down keeping a hold of it's back legs. If you watch closely the ferret should calm down a bit and look for somewhere else to bite and as it does quickly pull the rabbit away.
  11. Yeah thats right, forgot about the inplant. Can also get hobs inplanted im sure, does the same job as castration for a limited time, good plan if you want to breed a hob after a couple years.... just got to watch out for the inplant running out whilst hes in with all the jills haha.
  12. Keen to take on another working stock jill kit once the kit season starts. preferably albino or silver so they are easy to spot when ferreting. If anyones planning on breeding in or around the Scottish Borders area (I drive) and wants a guaranteed home for one, maybe two of the litter please drop me a PM. Will provide a good home with a large run/cage and a few hours daily run in the living room (assuming the girlfriends not here moaning haha) along with my young hob and jill for company.
  13. 18 quid at my vets. My vet claims it keeps them out of season for about a year :S Long term use of the jill jab has been questioned about health side effects.
  14. It is silly when ferrets are so cheap and usually easy to get. I quess people would target experienced workers to avoid having to give a ferret experience themselves. Herd ferrets are selling at a high price in Spain... Or Italy, can't remember so maybe being shipped out for profit.
  15. what ye going to do with that many kits? Dont you mean vasectomised hob!!! Haha
  16. If your looking at ebay be creful. I bought a double ferret box "Space for ferrets in one side and all your nets and locaters in the other" You mean, space for one hob in one side and 15 nets only in the other!
  17. do they not burst open when you've got a few rabbits in them Dont know what its like down by you but up here in Scotland the kind council provide us with stong recycling bags handles included! Your right in doubting standard black bin bags, but rubble sacks would do it, sure they are only a couple of quid for a roll of ten in ASDA/Tesco. Not sure they have handles though.
  18. I just take a few stong bin bags with handles along in my pocket
  19. If anyone is breeding good working stock this year in or around the Scottish Borders please send me a PM. Looking to get a jill kit this year, no rush. Would prefer albino or White silver.
  20. Got a hob that enjoys dragging the bowl everywhere and digging it out onto the floor. I put the water bowl inside another larger bowl so he can't move it and he looses interest. Attaching it to the cage would have the same effect.
  21. Could have been a rabbit in a stop end, hadnt thought of that. Only thing that would have me doubting it is how she didnt have any signs of fur or blood in her claws or around her mouth. Shes not really hand shy. I keep them all in the house and they get the run of the living room for a few hours a day and in here they are fine. But when all three are outside they play hard to get. Athena was terrible to start with, coming out then when i approach to re set the net she would dart back in messing it up even more. Apollo my hob who i dont ferret with even gets funny with me when outside and
  22. A locator is definatly on the cards, has been since i started. Just couldnt bring myself to spend 200 pound for possibly one months ferreting. But certainly will have one ready for September! Cant keep them outside as i have a shared garden. Neighbours only know the (stinky) myths and i didnt argue. Plus i live in a town center and i have no doubt a Saturday night drunk wouldn't try to pinch them for fun. Also like to let them out for a few hour rampage around my living room once a day for mental stimulation, now i wouldnt have it any other way! Selene is now living as a well loved pet
  23. They do get rabbit meat after a days ferreting but I gut and skin it then cut off the meat for them because I keep them indoors and they drag it everywhere haha. But kibble most of the time yeah. I have been working them without a collar yeah. Just because I'm new in starting, got nets, pegs and a carry box to start to see how things went. I didn't want to invest such a large amount of money until I knew how much I enjoyed it. I've been enjoying it alot and can't get enough of it! Haha. Gutted it's getting to the end of the season. But I thought because it's so close to the end of the sea
  24. Hi, I'm new to the forums... And ferreting. Used to have ferrets and do a little working when I was at school and thought I'd get back into it so got myself a working stock hob and jill in the summer, both as kits. Not taken the hob out as I prefer the jills. After a bit of ferreting before Christmas decided to get another jill so went to a rescue and got another young silver jill. So out on a new permission at the weekend, farmer was having problems and said he was in the middle of a purge at the moment, great! "Holes and rabbits everywhere". Shame it was all think hedgerows full of thorn
