  1. Yeah they were harassing us yesterday whilst out.
  2. Vets can also do an off license implant. That's what I'm using now. Can be costly but if you ask around you might find a good deal. Got mine for 35 pound.
  3. My ferrets will go down any hole i present them with, they are curious/do what i point them to. But yeah, they will sniff around outside the hole and casually wander down, then just come out seconds after if empty. If occupied, they fly down. Just keen on finding a way of reading their sense of smell (hearing maybe) before letting go of them. Best i can think of, when using my older jill, is letting go of her with one hand, judging how fast she bolts into the hole, then catching her with the other hand. Keen to see if theres a dogless way of marking. The ferrets know if there are rabbits
  4. Does sound strange. American farms neuter at six weeks so maybe four is possible. Did your friend not do his homework first? I wouldn't have taken that deal. Wonder why the breeder felt the need to do that, did he ask? He doesnt think hes got one of these super angora black eyed white breeds or something, haha, he wants to keep to himself?
  5. Wish i could take on a dog, but can't at the moment. Getting good results this year just through inspecting holes for kicked dirt and fresh droppings. But its not always that easy, wasted a lot of time last season. Think i'm going to put my hob on a lead and put him down over warrens, see if something takes his fancy. When working a larger warren, he mainly walks around above ground sniffing hole entrances, then fires down then one's he smells a rabbit in. See how i get on.
  6. Your right, but its just to save me netting up empty holes. I want to read the ferret before entering them.
  7. Maybe I'm being ambitious, but fancy trying to read the ferrets body language to tell if a holes occupied or not. I can tell the difference when I lay my jill at the entrance, if she casually wanders down there's a good chance it's empty, if she races down the thumping soon starts. What body language would you guys be watching for if you were just holding them to a hole? They are always scrambling to get out my hand when outside anyway so it would need to be more than that. If I just let my hob wander about he can sense the rabbits, his tail bushes up and he's quick on the move so could maybe
  8. Been out about four times, just a warren each weekend to keep the ferrets fed. There's rabbits in every hole I drop the ferrets in, wasn't like that last year! Got a big warren to do this weekend, roll on Saturday!
  9. They tend to crap in the same corner (more corners if they have more space) but they don't like to go near their bed, food or toys etc. So strategically placing these things in the corners you don't want them to use should put them off..... Usually. For nets colour doesn't really matter. It's easy to leave behind a camo net though. Bright colours are better if possible. Ferrets do smell, a little, their reputation for it is much worse though. Your neighbours wont notice three jills, assuming you keep them cleaned out regularly.
  10. My jill took a bit of a kick in yesterday, in a three holer, shes tough enough. But had i taken the kit...
  11. ^ I'd agree, I'd be worried the vet didn't do a full job. My castrated hob has a sniff when they are is season but that's all.
  12. Same thing happened to me this morning. The jill is in the middle of a moult. Entered her with a dark head, she bolted three the came out with a white head haha mad.
  13. The opinions on when to start working them varies on this site. Personally I wait until they are about 7/8 months old and stick to small holes for a while until they are more confident. No training really, just rely on their instinct to hunt. Giving them tubes to play in helps build confidence to go down rabbit holes and getting them used to wearing a collar is about all i do training wise, if you can call it training.
  14. My ferreting partner brings a pair of gardening gloves haha
  15. Been following you on YouTube, good effort!
  16. Thas a shame. If a ferret is sleeping more than usual and not eating in future, best to hit the vets.
  17. Hahaha, nothing wrong with treating them like pets. Waist coats are a bit questionable though.
  18. I think a priest would be a great method to dispatch, a good sharp blow to the head is always a good method. I stretch myself, sometimes i don't think they are quite dead straight away though, i can see it in their eyes. How long should it take? I'm sure i'm doing it properly. I do want to start chinning them, makes sense that you can do it while still in the net, just worried i wouldn't do it right. Plus the scare stories of rabbit bites you guys talk about has put me off haha
  19. My hob - Apollo, the god of music. My two jills - Athena and Enyo, the goddesses of war. An albino hob would suit Zeus
  20. So far so good on my end with the implant
  21. Any idea how much the thief was asking for them? Do some believe ferrets are actually worth alot?
