  1. Seen a reverse 3/4 a few weeks back at the North Wales show (St Aseph), a crackin looker, the dog just looked like a pure bred an was for sale (wonder why), any Copper worth his salt would be right 'on' to a dog like that if stopped, especially if it bore the 'mark's' of its trade. I prefer a few more gears, most halfs should suffice.....
  2. As Simo said Matty, thats a lot of dough for shite boots, i have seen these and other types whilst at shows over the years and mates have bought them, to be honest, I've never been impressed, all have complained that they are uncomfortable on the calfs on a long treck. Also the leather, IMO is not up to the job, 'giving' far to much, to soon, the shape of them boots for the time you have had them speaks volumes, yes boots should 'give' but after that ammout of time should never end up 'sloppy'. I'm just of the opinion that its about what a company actually makes, Le Chameau, are a wellie manu
  3. Used Gators an rate them (decent quality though) for the terrier job, crashing through wet cover etc, better than wellies in that you get the ankle support and sole toughness from your boot an yer kecks don't get wet an covered in shite. Never use them for lampin though, always sweat me nuts off!
  4. They don't look half bad, though I'd like to handle them to really see what they are made of. I've had a good few pairs of Brasher's, one pair bought new and the others from my Bro who does a fair bit of fell walking (he likes to look the part an buys new boots as soon as the last get scratched.....fecking quilt!!). They are designed for comfort an none breaking in, bulit over a training shoe 'last', they do what they claim but in the field, in winter, they have really let me down, side rubber has split and on two pair the sole has all but dropped off, plus they have all leaked like a tap, wi
  5. I buy the damn thing (every so often) then wish I hadn't!! Most of the lurcher & terrier stuff just kills me, then they done my head in with the Bull stuff a few years back, had to advertise as 'strong dog' etc!! I really enjoyed it as the Shooting News, still have plenty of old copies which are still a good read. Real dog men talkin real dogs. I did hear that Plummer got his hooks into it many moons ago, not sure how true that was but it certainly seemed to be a vehicle for his views an fables for a few years , seems to be about the time it went down hill!! It's out tomorrow ain't it
  6. Seen this plenty of times with young bull X's, though mostley with 1/2's an 5/8ths, they want 'the fight' an when a fox plays dead they just lose interest, it's pure inexperience. The best fox dog I have owned was the same to start, and at a dig he did the drop an re-catch thing three times , with me getting some terrible stick off the lads about bull x's ! As Macker said, a bite (or two) off a good fox will stop the problem i'm sure.
  7. Thank's all, she's really a 'bitsa', Sire is deerhound/grey X collie/grey, Dam is collie/grey/whippet X whippet/grey. Though I've run most crosses in my time I settled on BullX's about 15 years ago an kept nothing else since. Bella came courtesy of my girlfriend who was unable to leave this piss soaked little wretch at a show. Bella is a real live wire, taking everything in her stride, has a fantastic apptitude for retreiving and i'm confident she will make a really useful dog in the field.
  8. This is Bella, 15 weeks, doin ok.
  9. With all honesty Simo, two, my old two bull 1/2x's. Was at the time quite sick of rearing 'well bred' lurcher to lurcher crosses only to find them lacking, usually on the big stuff, with these it was a case of right lines, right stuff, job done!! Still an always will, admire any cross thats bred to do an does well, any specific or all round job but at the time (15 years ago) these dogs were a revalation........pure 'Cuprinol'.......did exactley what it said on the tin!!
  10. Yer Poach, always my best reads are in the Karzie, my own little sanctuary!
  11. 3 mins mate that'll never do use your left hand. Yer, an sit on it for 5mins first.....then i'll feel like a bit of strange!!
  12. For me....on terriers......none better........enjoy!
  13. Dukes of Hazzard, first series.........feckin Daisy in dem 'Kecks'..........sweet jesus i've gon all 'Shay'.... :tongue4:
  14. Two at present and thats what i've always regarded as my ideal, with work an such any more would just not get out enough to do them justice, PLUS if an when I do get time on my hands, I can then really get the most out of the dogs I run. Nothing beats a real 'good week' out as much as you possibly can, testing you and your dogs metal. Special times!!!
  15. Yer Snoop, The Man from Atlantis was 'Patrick Duffey', later in 'Dallas', who died an came back in the shower, remember?........this sounds like it should be on another thred
  16. Maybe there is summat in it, though for the life of me I dunno what? Think it's them type of ghost stories that were impregnated into your mind as a kid, always makin you 'over think'. True story.....Three lads I work with, havin a jolly round Southport, few shops, lots of pubs type of day...... Walkin down Lord Street, bloke marches straight into Rob (18st nutter!), bloke hits deck, boys look down it's that Dereck Acorah off Most Haunted, Rob leans over to pick him up an says.. "Didn't see that one comin, did ya?"!!!!! Sums it all up for me!!!
  17. Remember Magpie well, some bird called Jenny (fit if I remember) an a dude with a proper 'Fro'!! Always better than Blue Peter, John Noakes, was ok, Val Singelton far to 'mumsy' an Peter Pervert a complete twat! Anyone remember 'Follyfoot' on ITV, or Satureday mornin stuff like, The Flashing Blade, Robinson Cruso, Bell an Sebastion, all foreign an badley dubbed!!!
  18. For me..... World Of The Working Terrier ~ ( go back an back to this one) Nathan ~ (just a interestin tale, though quite a bit was gleened from Jock of the Bushvelt) The Fell Terrier ~ ( dispite a few noted people included, interestin readin an a great start for a young mind) Lurchers and Longdogs ~ (another great start for a keen young mind) A Mouchers Tale ~ (you say's it like it is for you Chalks an thats what count's, my current toilet read an re-read!!) Do them Journal's count? Still got mine, a great read, bought at the Cup, off the man himself!! Cheers
  19. Thats payback time for all them farts you been doin on her head DS !!!!
  20. [John done an interview on CNN and they asked how he restrained the guy and he said "Me and other folk were just tryin to get the boot in and some other guy banjoed him!†Liverpool Airport has been closed due to a suspicious looking car being parked outside, apparently it was taxed, insured an still had the CD player inside!!
  21. At about 12-13 used to hang around in the local cemetry, next to the local girls school, on occasion we'd get up an piss about on the flat school roof. One night gets up playin hide an seek or summat, crouches low an spies loads of little shafts of light comin up from the roof, holes drilled! Has a look, to find perfect spy holes over the changing rooms of the swimming pool, which has a 'interestin' ladies only swimming lessons on night school. First night up, mate takin his first perv shouts "minge! just what I've always wanted", we pissed ourselves. Most of our mates over the next few weeks
  22. I like to see a dog leave it's bowl 'spinning' after a meal, for all the above reasons, hate to see fussy an picky eaters. As pups my dogs are taught to eat all in front, if they lift their head from the bowl I have an older dog ready to 'pounce', three times with not a lot to eat usually does the trick. Suffice to say, my retired dogs have always ended up livin a fireside life with me Mam. She basically 'Free' feeds, dogs with food in their bowls all day, it always suprises me that the dogs brought up my way have settled in to her's very quickly without putting on weight, turning very picky
  23. Anyone else used to ride on the back of double-decker buses? Wait till they stopped, hands on the engine vents an a foot on the hood bar at the bottom an off we go.... Got some great looks off the people inside an out , till they'd moan to the driver, he'd stop, jump off an away, hide till the next came along, travelled all over the city on that game.... feckin NUTS!!! Bein a city boy, owning a lurcher an gettin out to the fields was deffo a savin grace, time spent the right way, though them Altcar keepers might think different !! Waded the river Alt a 'few' times with 'ol Stewart shout
  24. Len was a true charicter, few like him now. For all the years I seen Len at shows i never bought nowt off him as I had my own suppliers BUT lads could always get things the needed off him, travelling the country all summer for years he 'provided'. It was always business. Suffice to say, when asked for a guaranteed fox dog (pre Bull) a local lad, bought Red a big 'rangey' dog with a good dash of Saluki in it. Iron hard, red never quit on all quarry an his offspring were good also, some even better. With 'Ginger' it was all there for the right price. Good luck to him.
  25. The depth the bulb's pins sitting in the socket matters also and could need adjusting, its gotta be like the little bears porridge.... just right, not to far in an not to far out, just a matter of trial an error, pick a night when you aint got the dogs on a big field and adjust BUT don't touch them bulbs with your bare fingers. I always cut (burn) the clasps off my Lightforce filter then wrap insulation tape around the inside (once). This for me gets rid of the clatter an twang of gettin the filter on an off, far too noisey and a lot quicker too. On the subject, I used to only use Cluelights
