I believe in the greatest good for the greatest amount of people. I don't care if the 'alt right bleat' about individual freedom. Whether it's gun laws, tobacco laws, laws against hammering children and partners, health and safety at work, I'm all for those laws. ( Although not the hunting laws.) I live in the real world, and am not impressed by academic arguments criticising the "nanny state" . I'm all for free school meals, proper NHS provision, social housing, laws to protect against usurers and bad landlords, laws to protect children seeing porn or protecting them from junk food advertisi

People moaned loud and hard about the smoking laws. It's been a fantastic piece of people friendly legislation. Same with laws preventing the smacking of children. There were always those who said "it's nothing to do with the state what I do to my children in my own home". But slowly behaviour has changed for the better. Laws should sometimes be welcomed, this new piece of legislation is a step in the right direction.

Sometimes when new laws are passed they have good unintended consequences. For example, You rarely if ever see a stressed parent knocking feck out of their toddler in a shopping centre nowadays. Because somehow, perhaps by peer pressure, and the law, the parent knows that is unacceptable in modern society. The smoking laws were brilliant. Nobody now would light up in the same room as children or smoke in a car with children, again more because of peer pressure than anything else. Few people allow their dogs to crap in public places, a few years ago many people did. Again it's a mixture of law

I remember years ago taking a woman I knew, a neighbour, to a women's refuge. She had two kids with her. I ran her to the refuge and began to help her inside the door of the refuge. The manageress pointed to a sign on the door. It read: "No men beyond this point". Made me feel weird to be considered part of the problem, one of the enemy so to speak . Some of those women lived in absolute fear of leaving the refuge because their men would be waiting for them outside. f****n horrendous. I'm out of this thread, going to walk my dogs.

I am not being abusive or controlling. I am simply asking a question. I think to draw on personal experience is relevant in a debate like this. Domestic violence is something you never ever forget. I'm nearly 70 and still get flashbacks and nightmares from my experiences as a kid. Plenty of others are in the same boat. Controlling behaviour is sometimes obvious but often insidious. I remember our whole family being on edge as soon as my dad walked in the door. In fact I think his criticism and evil moods were worse than the actual violence. Seriously, bruises can heal but never ending criticis

BH I think you are making light of a huge problem. Controlling behaviour is not just being occasionally critical or cruel. It's a method of destroying another human being. Slowly drip by drip over time. It's mostly perpetrated by men but as your example shows also by women. If some evil creep can be stopped before his behaviour escalates to violence then I welcome the new law. Check out the stats below. https://www.refuge.org.uk/our-work/forms-of-violence-and-abuse/domestic-violence/domestic-violence-the-facts/

Been a long time Ray. Most of the lads on here will never have heard of the great Wolves players like John Richards, Steve Bull, Derek Dougan,Kenny Hibbet and Billy Wright.Plenty more as well. Will be intersting to see how they get on.

Looks like he has learned to keep it shut at last. Thank feck and good for him. The media slaughtered him, he was like a lamb to the slaughter. He seems to have been given some good advice to keep his mouth shut and just be a boxer.

Another way, popular amongst the rich,is to visit a Thirld World country and ear and drink local food and drink. Pretty soon you get a serious stomach bug and shite yourself thin. Seriously,it's all the rage..absolutely foolproof.

Do you think Klopp will park the bus? If so where? Might be safe at Old Trafford..hmm.maybe not.

Anybody watch it? I enjoyed it. BBC spent £16 million producing it. Not sure it's a good use of our money but nevertheless it was different from the usual dross they serve up. You should be able to get it on iplayer...8 episodes.

I've never bought this crap about health and safety being for softies. It's generally some fat arsed management/penpusher who comes out with crap like that. But it's not the likes of them that has to suffer when accidents happen. They just try to cover it up and hire the next mug who will take a risk.

Just remembered a joke about Phil Neville. The Man U first team noticed that Fergie was clocking off an hour early from training. "f**k it", they said, if it's good enough for him. it's good enough for us. So they all clocked off. Phil Neville drives home and sees Fergie's car outside his house. He sneaks a look in the windows and Fergie and Phil's wife are making love. Next day, Fergie clocks off early again and the lads follow suit. Phil Neville however carries on training. "What's up with you, ya scab" they say. "f**k that!" says Phil. "Fergie nearly caught me yesterday.

Yep. I know what you mean exactly. The only thing Fellaini brings to the table for me are horrible elbows, yet Mourhino is going to offer him a new contract. Others I know compare him to Keane. I can't see it at all. Phil Neville was just a runner. I can't think of anything he did particularly well. But he seems blessed. Got himself into the England team, a lucrative deal at Everton and got the England women's manager's job on a plate. They didn't even interview other candidates for the England job. Weird.

I came to the conclusion that there are some things i can't see in a player too. Some players to me seem really ordinary, yet clubs are willing to pay big bucks for them. Two come to mind immediately..Fellaini and Phil Neville.

Wow, that really surprises me. It's all about opinions but to me,he wouldn't rank in the top ten. Barnes,Alonso, Suarez,Dalgliesh, Gerrard, Torres,Fowler Owen, Rush and Salah. There's ten I personally would put in front of him. Maybe his sheer determination to win and leadership would be what would influence koppites and I can understand that. But there's been alot better than him in terms of pure class pulled on a red shirt imho.
