    Howzat!

I remember in the fifties the Australian government were short of workers and were a offering a ten pound passage to brits and their families. Some of our neighbours went. There was talk of my family going but my ma wasn't having it. I sometimes wonder where life would have led me if we had taken up that ten quid offer. Think I would have a pack of staghounds for sure.

It could be that those sent away to Australia were not criminals at all. They were simply hungry and stole to eat.

    Howzat!

I've often thought that. If criminality is genetic as some believe, how come Australia isn't a hotbed of criminality with more prisons per head of population than similar countries?

You have ruined my evening. Lo. I was brought up to view WG Grace as one of England's fairest players and a true sportsman. Oh well another illusion shattered.

Agreed but he should have expected it imo. Cricket is no longer a gentleman's game.

Fair or foul play? Its not in the spirit of the game but cricket has changed in my lifetime. First we had the West Indians deliberately bowling at the man...hence all the protective gear. Then we had the aussies introducing "sledging'-- saying personal filth directed at close family in order for a batsman to lose concentration. For me, I thought Bairstow was naive. Different sport but "Protect yourself at all times" comes to mind. I wouldn't have fallen for that trick when I was a kid playing with a bin, a home made bat and a tennis ball.
  7. Inexpensive Progress poem - John Betjeman WWW.BEST-POEMS.NET Encase your legs in nylons, Bestride your hills with pylons O age without a soul; Away with gentle willows And all the elmy billows That through your valleys roll...
  8. Kids innocently singing Silent Night at Christmas really cracks me up.
  9. I did an OU course years back. The enclosed poem just about sums up what you lads have been writing about. I too love churches, hate religions. The Poetry Hour WWW.THEPOETRYHOUR.COM
  10. I'm off on holiday to Yorkshire today gentlemen. If I see any brown or black faces, be sure I will report back to you. In any case Wilf will be along shortly, Im absenting myself before he spies my posts. There will be a real explosion then. Normal service wil resume next week.
  11. I'm not particularly nice or dim mate. I do resent the class system in this country. It would be fair to say I do have a chip on my shoulder about it. But you have not walked in my shoes. As for schoolteachers, I don't have have much regard for my former teachers in the fifties. They were violent and abusive in the main. Much of what I remember from school was marching in single file and being taught military or religious songs/ hymns. They abused their power so I did not creep up to them. The UK must abide by its agreed, international responsibilities and provide a safe haven for tho
  12. Nice to correspond with a individual who isn't a self avowed white supremacist referring to asylum seekers as vermin. I am basing my comments on the background of Syrian and Afghani refugees having read a study carried out by a Cambridge university academic. His name is Dr Coutts. I cannot find the article at the moment.I will post it a later date. Whilst searching for the article , I came across a House of Commons library study which clearly stated that the UK allows far fewer refugees than Germany or France for example. People are concerned about mass immigration. There were o
  13. I think the point is that, like Foxdropper ,you believe in fixed hierarchies of race and class. With that comes submitting to the perceived strong and kicking the weak, ie asylum seekers.
  14. And you are another one who said you were happy to call toffs "sir". I think we are very different.
  15. It's fascinating that all I'm asking for is for the UK to fulfill its international obligations without all this nazi stuff about sinking boats with women and children on board. Unbelievable. "Man's inhumanity to man."
  16. Now that's the point mate. The tories send all asylum seekers to the poorest area of the country. My birthplace is home to thousands of somali and Hong Kong boat people. Its too much for the poor areas. You won't find any asylum seekers or even black faces in the tory shires.
  17. Loads, 6 Syrians and 4 Afghanis. I think me and you are completely different. You once said you don't mind calling toffs "sir". You believe in human hierarchies of class and race. I don't. I wouldn't even call teachers at school "sir".
  18. That's an opinion which the facts do not support. 80% of boat people are granted asylum. And the British interrogation system is not a soft touch, especially with poachers turned gamekeepers like Patel and Braverman in charge of the home office. There is good evidence that Albanian migrants are not refugees but simply economic migrants. They are sent back. There is no evidence that genuine asylum seekers come here to claim benefits as you stated in another post. They are denied the right to work and live on the bones of their arses. Many, from Syria, are top of the tree professionals
  19. That would be New Labour under Tony 'mass murderer' Blair.
  20. I've no argument with that. Of course there are people who are simply economic migrants and they are sent back to their country of origin.
  21. I have nothing but contempt for your opinions. Or your weak analogies. I am not going to reduce myself to keyboard insults with which you metaphorically puff out your chest, hoping for a few playground mob 'likes' on here. The asylum system is an internationally agreed safety net. Britain must play its part in that system.
  22. Well researched, penetrative observation. The UK fought and won against nazis in the second world war. Unfortunately we seem to harbour our own brand of nazis masquerading as patriots.Stop talking tough behind a keyboard and address the issue and not the man.
  23. How will I recover from your judgement of me? I believe you have gone full nazi/ Patel tonight. Not long ago you were stating how much better the site was without constant racist posts from a member who had left. You are correct in one sense I have never read a Sandymere post with which I have disagreed. Abbot..that's a bit unfair to say the least. Not because she is a black woman MP which seems to annoy a lot of people, but because she is an embarrassment to british politics. Calm down.
  24. Who judges the judges? The tories believe the rules only apply to the little people and that they make the rules...they don't follow them. But Johnson was not being investigated as to whether he broke the rules. The police established that he had broken the rules and he was fined along with Sunak. The committee was trying to establish whether he had lied to parliament and to us. Even in these sleazy times, lying to parliament is still about as serious as you can get in politics. They came to the conclusion that he had lied on to parliament. On several occasions. Johnson has
  25. I picked up a stray farm collie from a busy country road last month. It was in danger of causing a RTA or being flattened. I took it the cops who then took it to a local dog refuge. You can help an animal or a human being without necessarily being prepared to have it or them in your house. Who do you object to? Ukrainian refugees? Hong Kong Chinese refugees? So called boat people?...... 80% of these people are found to be genuine asylum seekers. They are in danger of bombs, bullets and/ or persecution. Often they are escaping wars in which the west has played a big part. Politicians, esp
