Heard it all now fat lad,so if you don't dig with your dog you not up to spending a few hours in the cold or rain, never heard so much shite.i work my dogs all year round fat lad but more so in the winter months, have a lot of permission on the alston moors, also a lot on the borders, were it gets extremely cold and wet most of the time. What is it with you lot having a pop at folk for working there dogs on rat or rabbit, when both are fantastic sport. ive done my fare share of digging in the past but there's nothing that betters rat hunting as specially when in number and believe me your dogs graft -

when in my post's have i compared mr cooney, seems like your comparing for what ever reason.Boy scouts, war veterans,if we ever meet do i say hello or bow to you since obviously i'm the lesser man.for the record bud ive done my fare share of digging but don't have to shout about it or have a pop at folk for doing other stuff.Ive got the greatest respect for all working terriers mate,as ive worked with and along side most for 35 years.and i hunt rats and rabbits with my dogs simply because i love doing it,and your right most dogs will pop the odd rat off,but ive killed excess of 3500 rats in the -

Few Photos Of My Borders Working
keith j replied to Coursing mad 24's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Your right dilly dog, killing a few poxy rats don't make a worker,Same as digging a fox now and then don't make them a earth dog.but when you rat your dogs regular and dogs kill in number or a dog is expected to use nose and have to work situations out' it's working or flush rabbits from thick cover it's working,IMO. Not earth dogs but working all the same.but like ive said this topic has run it's course many a time so that's all i have to say on that.I do though look forward to seeing some pics of your digs and reading the story's behind them,as you've had your ten bobs worth on this topic h -

You having a pop at me hear dillydog? as i'm the one who's posted the border ratting.ffs get a grip what's all that about, same old chestnut with the likes of yourself, why worry about what other folk do with there dogs .if some one has a chosen sport they like to do with there dogs whether it be bushing ,ratting or digging or all good luck to them.I personally don't work borders and probably never will but what this thread has shown is that they can still be good versatile little terriers when worked by the right lads. i'm not even going to get into what a working terrier should be as that subj -

Border terriers also have long tails, look ok .Depends on the tail type,i have an un docked plummer carries a full tail really well certainly don't affect here working.although i prefer a terrier docked, there's nothing worse than terriers docked to short though,a nice bit length too a docked tail gives the terrier a better look. But LONG TAILS SHORT TAILS don't matter as long as the dog dose the job asked of it. atb keith j.

what is it with folk on here, who gives a f..k what type off terrier it is,fact is through all these blow hard's and gob shite's giving it the large about what there dogs can do,terrier work and hunting in general gets a lot off bad press. Now that something positive has come about through the media, shouldn't we all be giving this man a pat on the back regardless of the type of dog he uses,or how many rats it catches in a season[bet its a lot more than most on here catch].ATB Keth j.
