    That’s a great bag . I haven’t been able to harvest that many for about 10 years. A soon as they start to make a bit of a comeback either VHD our Myxomatosis knocks em back again . I am like a red indian now and only take what I need and never have a surplus for the game dealer, even though they are fetching a good price . I reckon if I hit them too hard I’d wipe them out and I wouldn’t want a shoot with no bunnies.

    I look at it like this . If you look at the size of a badger and think about how much protein an animal of that size needs to keep healthy? Anyone who keeps dogs will know how much food they need . Multiply that by however many there are in a sett , then multiply that by how many setts there are on the ground and you will start to appreciate how much they eat and how much wildlife is disappearing to satisfy the protein intake.     I reckon that when I got back in the truck to drive back another 100meters from my target I must have somehow worked it loose , and in fairness the 100 meter group wasn’t all that clever, but I put that down to my marksmanship.

    If I could kick my own ass I would . I knocked my .243 the other evening, I leant it against the truck and it fell over . So I thought id have a go at checking zero I put three in at 100 meters and it was ok so I thought while I’m at it I’d check what it was doing at 200 and it was all over the shop . I’m scratching my head thinking “shit , I need to go back to the drawing board for those home loads “. Then I get home and go to remove the sound mod and it’s bloody loose !! ????? Is it just me that does stuff like this ? Or does anyone else have stuff like this happen to them ?

    I’ve only had redbull once . I went to pick up a second hand truck from Wales and if was late and I nearly fell asleep at the wheel , so I pulled over and bought a redbull and it worked, kept me awake all the way home . Problem was I couldn’t sleep when I got home and I was awake all night looking at the ceiling. I knackered me up for days. I kind of enjoy the stress and worry ? I think I thrive on it . Don’t think I could do a “ normal “ job .?

    Masseys are spot on , never had an issue with them , any problems, split bags or anything they sort it out . Been dealing with them for the last 10 years and I can’t fault their customer service or their drivers.

    My Birds were coming on Monday, but a phone call yesterday with the game farm informed me that he was cancelling his delivery’s this weekend because of thunderstorms, so it will be probably Wednesday or Thursday next week now . However the food delivery arrived on time , albeit early in the day . I was happily slurping coffee and munching my cereal when I got a call from the driver saying he was already there and basically where the F@@k was I .

    I recently purchased a Primos trigger stick tripod with the two point gun rest . I wanted to get the rekon tripod but they are out of stock , and to be honest they are a lot of money. BushWear had a deal on so I got them for £139 . And as usual, very speedy delivery. They work very nicely, in that they drop down and lock well . The two point gun rest works ok . But with my heavy rifles it needs to be perfectly balanced to support it . I might ditch the rest and just use the V shaped support . I think in hindsight I should have saved my money and waited for the rekon

    I’ve not got a 17 and have never owned one . I’ve been out with a chap who had one and I wasn’t all that impressed. However a keepering pal of mine who's opinion I respect has one in his truck all the time and wouldn’t be without it . I can see that they would be a great “truck gun”, for all manner of vermin. Maybe one day I’ll get one , but for now I’m having fun with my 22lr Tikka which as I write this is nestled in the passenger footwell , and goes everywhere with me .

    One thing to come out of lockdown is the increase in dog ownership. People have all of a sudden realised that it’s nice to go out in the countryside and walk . And to do this it would be nice to have a dog . A mate of mine breeds gun dogs and he has been inundated with enquires and people booking pups. He is now charging £3,500 for Labrador pups , and the litters have all sold . He cannot breed dogs fast enough. Everyone I’ve talked to who breeds dogs have noticed this . My prediction!!!! Rescue centres will be full in six months.

    There is a flight pond on the shoot I work that is fed by a small stream and the water is gin clear . I stocked it with small carp and started feeding them . I used to hang dead foxes from an overhanging branch and the maggots used to drop in and I’d watch the little fish come and feed . It was a nice little place to sit and eat my lunch and watch the carp swimming around. They grew quick and I started to imagine myself selling day tickets. Anyway my dreams were shattered when we were visited by a “Harry Potter”. I’d stocked it with 60 carp and they were about the half a pound mark when happen

    My Mrs is all exited because the charity shops are opening. I was sporting the mad professor hair style and beard ( think homeless) look . Then my Mrs came up with the idea of getting the dog grooming clippers out . The look now is more Belsen or Aushwitz , but I’m growing to like it now and I’m not going back to paying barber prices .

    I reckon we are overrun with them this year . I’ve had a few sessions on them over feeders and it drags them in from far and wide . Top a feeder up , give it a week and sit there and shoot away.
