  1. Christ , a policeman being a sexual deviant , dishonest, reprobate. Who’d of thunk it ? I live near Gloucester, remember Fred West ? Well when they went through all his filthy videos of his Mrs Rose , there were a lot of police who visited 25,Cromwell street. Of course it was covered up , but people talk and it’s common knowledge around here . My old man was a policeman for 20 plus years and a more cynical, untrusting, hard nosed bloke you would never come across . The job does this to them . You become a spectator on a cess pit of humanity, dealing with the very
  2. I had my first days loading yesterday , on the neighbouring shoot . Because of Convid 19 there was no loading last season so it was good to be back with all the other loaders. And Christ we had a good laugh, I’d forgotten what it’s like to socialise. We didn’t let the fact that it was raining dampen our spirits ( we’re not made of sugar after all). My good friend who used to be the keeper here moved to Northumberland and is doing well up there having already had 15 days . So it was good to see that the new keeper, who is a young chap seems to have made a good job of things and the
  3. I think I can shed some light . When you see fields of maize grown here , it’s grown for cattle feed , and the whole plant, cob and all is chopped up and stored to finish ( put a layer of fat ) on the cattle before they are slaughtered. When I feed pheasants with wheat I mix in a bit of Kibbled or split Maize in with it . But too much will make the birds fat and unable to fly well . Basically Maize packs on fat .
  4. This coat was purchased in winter 2019 , it’s about to do its third winter . Which for a £20 coat I think is fantastic value. If it’s very wet weather I’ve got about three coats that are alternating drying off , and it’s the Aldi coat that I go to first in preference to the deerhunter etc .
  5. A keeper mate of mine had a green fishing coat from Aldi , and said for the money it was excellent. I told him if his Mrs sees any more in there to pick one up for me . This she did and I’ve had it two seasons of very hard use . Feeding pheasants every morning during winter. If it’s pissing down it’s my “go to “ coat . And I’ve got Deerhunter coats , Musto and Seeland . It’s starting to lose a bit of it’s waterproofing now . But for £19.99 I can recommend them . I wouldn’t wear it on shoot day , but for knocking about and work , I reckon they are brilliant. The make is Crane , never heard of t
  6. Have you seen what we are prepared to do for a lump of cheese?
  7. You don’t have to be from up north to like free grub. I don’t think there are a tighter bunch than Gloucestershire folk , we f@cking squeak .??
  8. I’m not skinning.???I’ve got a Welsh chap has most of my deer . There is simply no money in venison at the moment. So he takes 3 and the estate gets 2 back as joints and sausages and burgers. But I reckon it’s more like 50/50 , he’s no fool . I think he’s supplied most of the BBQs in the valleys this summer. ???
  9. I honestly can’t tell the difference between munty and roe. A young fallow takes a bit of beating. I’ve not tried any but there are those who reckon CWD to be the best venison .
  10. I just got the tape measure out and I think it will scrape a bronze .
  11. My mate who now keepers a shoot in Northumberland breeds them , and works them to fox . He has got one or two to work to heel like a Labrador. But most of them are like hounds and get on a scent and are gone .?? He used to have a pack of Teckles turn up and join up with his and we used to have fox drives . They all had trackers on and it was great fun and productive. He imported a stud dog from the Ukraine recently, that is a very good earth dog . They have all got great noses .
  12. The keeper isn’t up in Northumberland is he ?
  13. I nicked another one this morning. Nothing like the first . I just thought I’d make it worth putting the chiller on .
  14. Only disappointment was his fangs are broken. But I think he is an old warrior judging by the ragged ears and cuts . These things really go at each other and very often they show signs of battling.
  15. Nice to hear from you Bernard. I think I can speak for most of the lads on the rifle section , “ about f@ckin time”.???
  16. I don’t often shoot these , but he was on the border of the shoot and I haven’t seen him before. So before he disappeared or someone else shot him. He is now in the chiller. I reckon he will medal .
  17. I’ll clean it up and get it measured. I’m thinking silver .
  18. Just going topping up feeders this morning and this brute popped out . I haven’t seen him before , and as it was next to the edge of the shoot I might not see him again so , he had it . I reckon it will medal .
  19. My advice is to buy the RCBS rockchucker kit . I bought second hand kit off eBay , a lot of Lee stuff, and all I’ve ended up doing is upgrading it to RCBS and Redding dies . I wish I’d just got really good stuff from the start . I do still use the Lee auto hand primer though which is good .
  20. There are now very small windows where you can spread muck . Farmers have to be very careful, you can’t just wait for a the field to be cut or a frosty morning anymore . It’s all to do with nitrates getting into water courses.
