  1. I bought a Sightmark Wraith 4k max a while back from Scott county, I did want to get one off Blackwood but they were out of stock , so no disloyalty on my part . I’ve been very impressed so far , sighting in was a doddle and it’s done all I can ask of it . I wanted a scope that I could sit out with in the evening and not have to change over guns . The picture quality in daylight is superb . The night mode I was slightly disappointed and thought it’s not that much better than my old pulsar , but I can clic up the zoom and although the image is pixelated I can really place the bullet perfectly.
  2. The guy was taken to Bristol hospital, on the way in the helicopter his heart stopped 3 times , and miraculously he survived his ordeal , he still has a limp , but is glad to be alive . I was shown a picture of his X-ray when I was stood next to the shoot owner, and there in his leg were pellets and a plastic wad . The shoot owner said to me in all seriousness, “ did you tell him we are fiber wad only “?
  3. I was at a first aid course and the instructor who was a St Johns ambulance “ hero” was regaling us with stories of his life saving, involving performing CPR and wrapping people in tin foil blankets at rock festivals. He then asked the group if anyone else had had to do first aid and save someone . Stupidly I stuck my hand up and proceeded to relate the time on a pheasant shoot where a gun , who had his driver hand him a loaded 410 which went off and shot him straight through his leg . I rushed over and used his tie as a tourniquet and kept his leg elevated and the tourniquet on till the air a
  4. The guy who did my fox mask specialises in birds . I’ll text you his number .
  5. So what your saying it’s Charlie on Charlie ?interesting!
  6. Money talks at the end of the day. Look at the financial losses attributed to deer . Probably more than Bovine TB . I wouldn’t of thought that the Badger cull would have developed the way it has. The problem is that the only ones protesting about the Badgers were Brian May and a load of unwashed vegans . With the deer , they have a lot of allies , among landowners and shooters .
  7. Well hopefully you have put them on the right track . But I’ve got a mate who stalks and has a DSC deer management certificate. But his attitude to deer and mine are poles apart . He has a very romantic and overly protective view on deer . We have to ask ourselves why there is a road traffic accident every 7 minutes in this country involving deer and all the losses to agriculture profits and forestry damage , and deer population through the roof. I can see a similar situation with contractors being used , “badger cull style “ . With parcels of land being assi
  8. I agree with the previous posts , but also the way i see it is there are stalkers out there who control vast swathes of prime deer country . They have groomed the land owners either by charm or money or both . And made themselves and their opinions on deer control all that landowners and forum members listen to . Hey spout their opinions about night shooting and seasons to anyone who will listen . But they are nearly all recreational stalkers and not controlling their numbers properly. Control means that you look at an area of land and work out what size population that area can su
  9. Not into the disposable idea . I dig mine up and reuse them . But then we are tight fisted in my part of the world , even worse than a Yorkshireman , and they squeak.
  10. Damn , you just had me going to the workshop to take a picture ?. We use / I use 2mm diameter 7x7 aircraft cable . The earth anchors I use are for very hard stones ground that we have in my area . We drive them in with the bar shown and then pull them up to lock them in . I’ve never had one pull out. I don’t use drags anymore as I believe that it is not legal . Is this something you guys use ? With a lot of our practices, the industry tries to self regulate itself as much as possible, by introducing guidelines and “ codes of best practice. Hopefully people stick to
  11. I’ve a few . I sometimes used to secure them to a drag , so as not to damage the run too much , but I now use earth anchors. There is nothing like seeing a problem fox bouncing around waiting for you . We have to use “ relax o lock “ type snares to just hold them , with a deer stop , and now the guidelines suggest that a break away link to avoid non target species like badgers . The one picture shows a run that foxes use to break into a poultry unit . I caught the farmers collie dog once ?I did tell him to keep it away, but he didn’t listen.
  12. The fox didn’t seem to be in poor or starving condition, he had what seemed to me a good body weight. The wound itself looked like it had been sustained a while ago as there was signs of some healing . They are resilient and remarkable creatures that’s for sure . I’ve shot them with missing tails , missing legs ( cables around their waists) Mange , no teeth . I wonder what gnarly specimen will turn up next . I have a fair bit of permission that nears housing and sort of backs onto fields . I’m sure that people feed them , otherwise some of these pathetic foxes wouldn’t have survived. They are
  13. I’m with you on head shooting. It’s too small a target , why make it difficult ? We all want a humane outcome .
  14. Here is a fox from the other night at the pig farm . Blind in one eye with a nasty wound to its muzzle , not sure what did this .
  15. I had been waiting for a call from the chicken farm . The arrangement is if the foxes leave him alone , then he leaves them alone . I’m happy enough with that , especially early in the season . I was wondering when I might get a call and it wasn’t until early July . I hadn’t visited the farm since January and I was curious to see how many were about , I figured there must be some cubs about and they would soon start causing havoc . The phone went and without any polite “ how are you”? “ I haven’t seen you for a while , how’s the Mrs “? “ Three dead chickens at the back of the shed
  16. I thought it was the Australian outback , we definitely need some rain .
  17. I’ve kept my promise and I’ve never mentioned that . ?
  18. A good night out mate . I’ve been busy myself, and because I don’t have the luxury of shooting off the front of an ATV anymore I’ve had to either shoot of the back or bonnet of my truck or sticks or anything else I can lean on . I made some quad sticks with a fifth leg which are rock solid to shoot off , but when a fox is moving they are a nightmare. I’ve even thought about a tripod with hog saddle and there is no way I’m paying the money for a reckon of bog . I’ve noticed your sticks , what make are they ? They look like you could track them a bit better than mine with the
  19. I’ve just returned from holiday in Cornwall, and I learned a couple of things I didn’t know . My wife and I visited St Ives for a day trip , the beach was literally covered in thousands of spider crab shells , I asked someone what had caused it to happen ? Spider crabs shed their shells as they grow it’s a regular phenomenon and something triggers them to all do it at the same time , and the cast off shells wash up on the beach . I was in the caravan awning and noticed something on a bottle lid that looked like a small stick insect. A quick google confirmed that they have esta
  20. I think my favourite pictures aren’t ones of groups of friends or piles of dead stuff , ( and I’ve got loads of those on my phone ) . For me it’s moments that I tried to capture when I took a moment, stopped what I was doing and thought “ this is beautiful, I’ve got to take a picture “, we are privileged to see nature at its best , alone very often and at times of day when others are in bed .
  21. I just took a snap while I was waiting for woodcock to be driven in Cheshire. I didn’t think anything of it at the time but I like the reflection of the trees and it is quite evocative of that shoot and makes me feel all fuzzy and nostalgic.
  22. I see Benbhoy is using my “ original “ artwork as his avatar . “Shouldn’t you ask permission “?
  23. This is an artist’s impression of the same sheep you bothered the next day That stuff belongs on the “ dark web” . I think they call it “Taff porn “ . You are a sick ……sick , puppy .
