  1. yes my favourite tme of the year, unlike this year everywhere flooded. couple more snowy ones for ye.Very smart all I a mate I dig with has one of yours ,done well so far
  2. Doing daytime work can sometimes affect Lamping work if recall isn't spot on As they get used to using their nose As soon as they realise they will see more ,get more runs the penny should drop. I usually get them lamping first,as that's what I do mostly ,but their recall needs to be spot on ,work on it Will come right with effort
  3. Top post foresterj at lot of sense jamesons or not
  4. I think yes some people think there dogs are better than they are .we've all been guilty of that at sometime even if it was years ago . Kennel blindness ,some people yes,you only have to see a saluki x bull x collie x or whippet thread to see some wouldn't touch a particular cross.usually because they have maybe seen a couple of poor ones, but then at the same time some try certain crosses and they ain't for how they work ,or don't like a particular trait , Don't think any of us will live to see The best of the best regarding world beaters though Gaz. I don't think it's a new thing
  5. Think about the quarry you want, Be honest if a dog can do all you want Make your choice carefully a lurcher Will be there a long time, See as many litters as possible A good lad will tell you if there pups will do the work you want them to. be carefull of Peddlars and messers. And people in it for £££ then take up fishing shooting golf. Good luck with your future pup You may need it buddy Contact me I need a new rod for fishing ?
  6. I did say MOST staff are no longer work.I also said most terriers will work to a degree. But if there is dogs or crosses, better, I dare say there plenty that will Bush but I dare say that can be said about loads of breeds I'd sooner go for something with a history of hunting, terriers hound spaniel etc..why make life any harder than it needs to be.
  7. I tend to hand strip my terrier this time every year .10 minutes in to it think I'm doing well 30 minutes in start getting fed up of the dog not keeping still. Then give up until the next day, start again telling myself to keep calm,I tell the missus I enjoy it as it's therapeutic, then get the big guns out and shave The little fecker lol.Sorry I hate the job
  8. Yea think we are saying the same thing mate in different ways lol Do you mean the lurcher in the avatar?yea she's been a good one for me mate
  9. Nice type mate .do they try to go to ground?
  10. And regarding working Glen I mean ones that will Bush,no need for an all out digging dog imho,MOST staffs aren't true working dogs any longer, ok a few take there's bushing but they aren't what they were meant for On the other hand glens wheatons and most British working terriers are keen enough to hunt up. I suppose there's no need to cross a spaniel really if you just need a bushing dogs
  11. Same could be said about the "other" type of bull I suppose My lurcher is that mix and she hasn't A nasty bone in her same goes with Wheaton lurchers,I'd be confident the spaniel love anything temperament would subdue that enough
  12. I think Any of the bigger terriers crossed with a spaniel will hunt,to a degree. But it would be handy to know the terrier be it staff or other will hunt up.maybe a Wheaton x spaniel would also be an option or working glen
