  1. I have the older P94 Sako Finnfire (wooden stock) and had it cut down to 18" and then put a PH moderator on it. It's a fair bit lighter than the CZ and with batch tested ammo it's absolutely deadly. If weight isn't an issue have you thought about a CZ 452 Varmint with the 18" barrel in 17Hmr. Stick a SAK on the front and it is ideal for small vermin up to 200yds if you do your part. Foxes can be taken with this as well, as long as you use your discretion and don't try to take them at silly ranges. G
  2. Hmr 17grn - 2550fps Hmr 20grn - 2300fps I think someone has been yanking his chain G
  3. I remember way back in the 70s when a laser was shown to be the ultimate sniper device. Once you locked on to a target with the laser......................you couldn't miss. Yeh right. G
  4. One of the best loads I had with .223Rem was 24grns of Reloader 12. Unfortunately they stopped making it and replaced it with R10. Never got around to trying R10 but did have great success with 19.5grns of Reloader 7. These were all using 55grn TNT G
  5. I understand fully what you say. I went down to Bisley some 30 years ago to buy a Match air pistol that was being advertised. I drove down early so that I could have a natter with some of the lads that had gone down for Bisley Week. Went into the NSRA shop and duly asked to have a look at the pistol. I was handed it and like most people raised the gun and pointed it at the wall at the back of the sales counter, making sure no-one was in my line of sight. In an instant the twonk behind the counter grabbed my wrist and twisted the pistol out of my hand moaning about "Pointing guns" and "Safety p
  6. Slipper, my heart goes out to you if you are having these problems, as my own granddaughter is going through the same thing; not depression, but anxiety. She is 23 years old and has made the move to live in a little flat on her own and is trying to cope with working long hours to pay the bills, and it causes her some worries. She certainly isn't a threat to anyone, but if her employers found out about it they could take a dim view of things due to the nature of her job. It's not fair to her or yourself. Hope you are able to get to the other end of the tunnel OK. G
  7. Not too sure if this is any good as it's a couple of years old. http://www.rrdvegas.com/17-mach-ii.html G
  8. Be interested to see how it goes. I have just been reading about it and it seems that it was originally sort after for target shooting due to its accurate nature. But as with the .222 it soon found favour with vermin controllers. I read that its design makes it easier to utilise a short action, unlike the Swede which normally tends to be built on a long action. So maybe it will start replacing the 6.5 Swede in the future and we will see loads of them appearing on the SH market. Post a piccie and let's see how nice it looks. G
  9. When I joined the City of Birmingham club @1987 I was amazed at how up-their-own-arses some of them were. I was a member for over a year before anyone on the committee actually deigned to have a conversation with me, and that was only because I was shooting very well. It can be off-putting if you let it, but I doubt you will find many clubs as uppity as they were. As with so many great things it was brought to its knees, not by legislation, but by land developers who wanted the land to build on. Get past any snooty upper class nonsense and most of the other members are usually great.
  10. Are the primers overly flattened or have they lifted out of their pockets slightly. G
  11. Is the ammo readily available or will you be rolling your own? G
  12. Unfortunately attitudes never change. Anyone who is member of a select club tend to view vermin controllers as the lower end of shooting; something that wouldn't be missed if banned. And as for game shooters ...........poor ikkle defenceless animals "Shouldn't be allowed" (yes I've actually heard it said in the clubhouse). And then on the other hand vermin shooters tend to view target shooters as stuck up eejits, whilst game shooters have too much money to be anything other than dangerous. And so it goes on. Thank gawd I shoot Match rifle, Gallery rifle, do rabbit control with .22 air ri
  13. Unlike a lot of young lads with air rifles, I don't see the need to fit a scope that is capable of seeing the canals on Mars so the scope isn't an issue at all; Just mounted a nice Simmons 3-9X40 I always felt nervous when shoving my fingers in that gin-trap of a loading port that the 77 used, even though it was fitted with a gubbins that was supposed to stop it snapping shut. So when I bought this 57 the loading port seemed a bit safer. Can't get out to shoot it yet though because other more pressing matters have arisen and I am stuck in sorting out family shite I'll make a proper revie
  14. I have been reading about that loading port.........................hoping it has been sorted as it is a new gun. Just like me to buy the only German gun that doesn't work properly ........................... G
  15. The XL are 180/122 And yes they do have pockets Are you sure that isn't 180/112 which is 44" - 46" UK regular.
  16. I do see where you are going with this as I used to take my two eldest granddaughters with me when my Lab was a puppy. I used to throw the dummy and one of them was sent for it. The next throw was retrieved by the other, and so on. He was so full of life he wanted to get in on the act and used to race them for the pick-up and from then on it was just steadying and stopping him from running in. He wasn't just a working dog though; he was also a family pet, which is why he was allowed a lot more leeway than a fully trained working dog would be. Even so he never let me down or embarrassed me and
  17. Do you remember the eejit on PW some years ago, who told us the tale of shooting a fox at 700yds with his .22 Hornet. He had used all of his field-craft to work his way in from 1000yds as he didn't want to miss the shot apparently. G
  18. I have had a HW77 for more years than I care to mention, and a couple of years ago I was given a brand new 97 stock, so fitted it to the 77. Absolutely great with a new genuine spring and piston washer she is really accurate................. but too bleedin' heavy now that I am a decrepit old pensioner Anyhow today I bought a brand new HW57, which is lovely and light in comparison. Anyone owned one of these rifles and if so is that loading breech a problem at all. G
  19. It's already started about heart problems as one of the shooters at my club was asked about this at his renewal interview Couldn't agree more, but since when did common-sense prevail where shooting is concerned. On the last page of your renewal form it actually asks if you are disabled............go figure why they are asking that question. G
  20. Hello Deker, haven't seen you for a while. Yes you are more than correct, and as Birmingham is now being described as the "Gun crime capital of Britain", it just goes to prove it. But then again when you have an establishment that finds it impossible to differentiate between sporting shooters and black-on-black murderers............................... G
  21. Have you had a look at these http://brisa.fi/enzo/enzo-fulltang-blades.html. I bought the Enzo D2 trapper and fitted it out with a brass finger guard and Lignum Vitea scales (off fleabay) Holds an incredible edge, and if you don't have the facilities to make your own they are brilliant. Or you can buy some o1 and make a copy of the Ray Mears one. Looks OK with Buffalo horn scales.
