  1. The way he explained it was the ducks were in an end stable in a narrow passage way and the fox had a narrow escape route so stood his ground ive no doubt physically the 12 to 15 pound fox could take a 6 pound chihuahua but they rarely have that kind of courage unless cornered.
  2. A guy i work for let his house dog out for a piss and normally it comes back 5 minutes later scratching at door to get back in and 20 minutes later his wife walks down to farm where he keeps a few white ducks and seen a fox running down field with something black in its mouth and the dog hasnt been seen since. 5 weeks ago he told me this and i didnt believe him at the time and he lives in the countryside 10 miles from nearest town so it wasnt an urban fox. Edited to say he has a few other big dogs as in sheepdog and labrador and the chihuahua bullied all of them a real fiery little thing did i
  3. The standard here is if the owner has the dog off and no stock about, just remind them there are stock in areas and please be sensible. If they persist, or have dogs off around stock, they get a more severe warning, and the old ' well, if you weren't here, I might think he was worrying them and he might get shot' line. If the owner isn't present and the dog is mooching about, it gets lifted and leaded up and I usually go looking for them, or tie it to a fence post for a while (checking) and the owner usually turns up! If they are in with the sheep and chasing but not killing or making them

your dead right in what you are saying, along with some others, and i agree, but for me its the fact that things are getting changed in the name of religion, and for offending the blacks, and other likes, like, no more bent bananas, taking the gollywog of the jam, your not meant to say, coloured when talking about a black, there's something in my head about a change of things in a nativity play, but i can't quite remember what it was, there's loads more, i just hate it, There was a time when you had to call black folks coloured. Now you can't. It's like they keep changing the rules to try

  6. Every sheep farmer around my area shoots loose dogs without question most of them have 2 or 3 sheep kills every 5 years i cant blame them if a dog got away on me and got shot going through their land i would be saddened but wouldnt question it, ive been warned enough times and they sometimes ask me to come with gun if they spot stray dogs and you should see the genuine look of anger and disgust on their faces they know who owns the dogs and when they call to tell owners what happened they deny it was their dogs or worse deny even owning Them. Compensation never happens and if it occasionally d
  7. The first book i read aged 2 was called ABC the alphabet it really inspired me to read and write, then again if i hadnt read it i would be illiterate now lol.
  8. A 2/3 day old pup is to young to micro chip and the vet should have just handed the chip over for when the up was old enough, the law says you have 6 months to chip the dog after the docking has been done..the vet will dock pups at 3 days old but only gives you the docking cert when you return for chipping at 8 weeks old. They use the excuse that they want the chip to match the dog that they docked and have it on record but again its another way to get payed twice.
  9. Some say refuse the first 2 offers and the 3rd offer is the genuine one before it costs them money to go further.
  10. If i had an average dog that gave 7 good seasons graft but i had an exceptionally gifted dog that you just know is top of their game from day one that only done 2 super seasons for me i know which one id be breeding from and wouldnt care what Anybody thought those special ones are hard come by and a fencepost could end your future line very quick.
  11. I left his collar in the house mate lolat least you have a good handle on him
  12. Next time you slip him on something try holding him by the collar its far less severe.
  13. I don't want to speak about who's the best, older or younger. According to me and my sons, search is the most pleasant part of a hunt. We like it. I don't use locator. I don't put collar on dog, we could be tempted to use after few hours. Nowadays, some climb to the top of the mountain with a helicopter before descending on skis. Others continue to climb on foot with a mountain ax and skis on the back. the old ways are a great education for youngsters and respect for the talent ye have for locating dogs in france it is a gift but why not stick a locating collar on dog in case things g
  14. is that 2nd hand or new and what range are they cheers.
  15. i agree with you completely if somebody outcrosses off their stuff and it fails its not their breeding but if they outcross and they click or improve they dont be long claiming it as their own.
  16. not at all chesney failures are failures whether bought or gifted but most of the terrier police bought into lines then critisize the commoners and next show you go to their arm is around the peddler a bit of clarity from them would be nice ive no issue paying for a good un but i wont go out and belitttle them if its bad. Define peddler
  17. People get there lines from peddlers then give out about other peddlers ruining peddlers lines now that is a riddle like frank buck said 20 pound cant catch distemper was he a peddler or what defines a peddler. If somebody took cash for a dog they have no business dictating how it should be worked now a man that gifts a dog is a genuine bloke and deserves at least a bit of input in how things should be done and what way progeny should be bred and asked for there opinion when things are going right or wrong alls they want is the truth to further strengthen their lines good or bad thats why they

  19. That's my main argument. Most folk agree that one thing we don't have to do nowadays is lie on the ground listening. It's not rocket science. You hoped there was no wind and you lay on the ground listening. The spot where the terrier was loudest was where you started. Am I wrong ? Unless a previous dig at the same place had told you that sound travels then you went in where you could hear the terrier was loudest. As you went down you made adjustments using the bar or your hearing. The lads of yesteryear tell us that it might take hours before you even got a mark. I have my own opinion on
  20. Theres good and bad in every era. One thing the old boys could teach todays men is how to locate their terrier if there batteries went dead in their locater or collar at a 4 foot deep earth which if happened to 90% of todays lads they would fall to pieces clueless about how to find the dog with no plan B. I bet most lads now would send for help collar up a second dog to find the first without even trying to find it and then still claim they dont ever double up.
  21. Fine gael majority is probably the best outcome hunters could of asked for when fine fail were last in power hunting was going to be banned but when fine gael took power they never pushed legislation through, it was a close call and we got lucky but might not be so lucky next time. Uninforceable laws and cases been thrown out of court and described as a waste of police time and resources in the uk have probably saved the axe falling on us allready. Irish politcans generally dont think for themselves and usually look at the uk way of doing things for guidance when making laws and they can see
  22. fairplay then,it's no harm for men to have some of their breeding in other yards to go back to, who knows what's around the corner it only takes one dog thief to wipe out a mans lifes work.
  23. When you got your first good dog Did you buy in or was it gifted and if they had told you to piss off would you have good dogs now. I wasn't told to piss off so never know lol.And they were gifted .somebody somewhere stopped to help you at some stage maybe you are just a Big cuddly bear behind that facade.
  24. Anyone dig forty feet respect but bet the old man is having a good laugh about when he had a shit in it why would anybody go to the rounds of filling in well if something wasn't right.
