Police Call To My House After Shooting In My Garden.
4sight replied to pianoman's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I can remember when we used to shoot at the church bell. No-one took any notice. Those were the days -
A tuned AA S400 with the full length classic air cylinder should produce 60 - 70 shots in .177 consuming approx 1 bar of air per shot from 180 - 100ish bar. As long as you are not hindered by anti tamper, stripping and tuning yours is a very easy thing to do. Join the Air Arms Owners Club and go to the technical section for strip down and tuning guides. I am not a fan of fitting after market regs to the S400 if you are paying someone else to do the work. If you can do it yourself then you won't be out of pocket by so much when you come to sell the rifle. How many shots do you feel that you n

I've only shot at night twice and used a lovely little scope mounted torch of 230 lumens which I found more than suitable for the small fields I was in. Something that I found out was that rabbits are supposed to be colour blind. If someone is changing to a red filter, all they are doing is reducing the brightness, apparently the fact it is red has nothing to do with it.

Petition For Standardising Air Rifle Muzzle Energy Tests
4sight replied to Coypu Hunter's topic in General Airgun Discussion
The sentiment is ok but who is he?. He includes the words 'and Airgun Manufacturers' in the opening title. I've spoken to AA. They havn't been approached or had any discussion with this particular person. Anyway, you have until 2015 16th July to spread the word. PS I have my air rifle set to 11.3 ft/lbs with JSB pellets. I've tried other pellets but the best I have got is 11.5 with some tin pellets. -
I've heard all sorts of excuses for getting out of something but this takes the biscuit. Simon if you get the chance could you take a couple of piccies and put them up, wish I could see them flying together. As you say, it might not happen again. ATB Dave

If it is the barrel probe seal, contact user BGALTD on the Air Arms Owners Club site he can supply a new 'o' ring. You can repair it yourself for very little cost.

Which 2Nd Hand Gun To Buy Under £500
4sight replied to Liamb2324's topic in General Airgun Discussion
There is some information on UK air rifle clubs/venues on this thread: http://www.shooting-the-breeze.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1089 My recommendation is that you look for a Hunter Field Target club in your vicinity and introduce yourself saying you are a newcomer to the sport and looking for advice. -
Which 2Nd Hand Gun To Buy Under £500
4sight replied to Liamb2324's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Until you have had a chance to shoulder and fire a range of air rifles, giving you a recommendation right now would not be a great deal of help. What works for me may not suit you. Probably the best you could do right now would be to join/visit a local HFt/Ft air rifle club and have a good chat with the guys there. Find out what they use and for what purpose. Get to fire a few of the rifles to see which fit your build and eye position. Also useful for finding out about scopes as well. It doesn't matter if 50 people recommend an Air Ranger or an Air Arms, only for you to find out that it do -
Try them out in your barrel at your hunting ranges, see which group best. Then you can let us know. Every barrel is different. What works for some don't always work for others.

The Combro is a brilliant piece of kit, the company has a first class reputation for looking after its customers. Buy direct from them here: http://www.chronoscopes.com/ Probably the best piece of kit you are going to purchase, easy to set up and use, accurate. Keeps you legal and it fits in a pocket. I should add that it is £49.50 if bought direct from combro. The Ebay adverts make me chuckle. Someone is selling an easy application fixing strap tool - £3.85 delivered - it's an elastic band. All I use is some black sticky tape the sort you use to stop leaks, just wrap a bit around the barre

Air Arms are a distributor for JSB pellets. In other words, the tins contain JSB pellets. What I cannot tell you without seeing a cross section is whether they are from the same moulds/tools. Intershoot prices are very good and you can currently buy a sleeve of ten tins JSB Exact for £9 each delivered mainland. If you can get hold of some JSB to try from someone it would give you a second supplier if they work in your barrel.

England Calling All Bucks, Northants And Oxfordshire Fishermen
4sight replied to tomov's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Does it have to be a team - can an individual turn up to fish. I'm assuming by the stocked fish this Is stillwater rather than stream/river. Many thanks -
If you are using 2 piece mounts try switching them around (move front to back). Not everything is manufactured to the same tolerances and shimming a scope using film negative is another way of building up the height.

The local gunshop has probably opened a trade account with them. This is a different issue. The only company that will knowingly transport an air rifle is ParcelForce48. You can try AWT, some say that they will carry an air rifle. I phoned AWT, the guy gave me his email address and said to contact him, he never replied to my email. Sorry, should have read AWE Express not AWT. Dave

Hi John, when you phoned them, what did they say?. What air rifle are you sending, springer or PCP. I took this from the Parcelforce website: General prohibitions and restrictions The below sets out the requirements that apply to Retail customers only. For full details of the requirements that apply to Account customers, please see our Account Prohibitions and Restrictions RESTRICTED GOODS Arms and Ammunition Low-powered air weapons (air rifles, air guns and air pistols), together with lead pellets and other airgun and airsoft projectiles, can be sent but are subject to the followi

If you don't specify what is in the packet, and if it contravenes their Terms and Conditions, it could be confiscated. It won't be insured either (not that you get a lot of cover)

What was the end result. Is this a good place to go?.

I'm not going to get into 'which is better', at the end of the day they both have their plus and minus points. The best advice I was given was to find and join a local air rifle club. Learn how to shoot properly, accurately and humanely before going out to hunt Gods critters. Dave

Thanks for correcting me on that. I've edited my post and also sent an email to get a quote from AW Express.
-
AW Express are able to deliver with insurance but what if they also use other courier companies as part of the delivery chain, is the air rifle still insured?. I'll see if I can find out.
-
If you had sent this by anyone else, you would not have had a penny back in compensation. £100 is the maximum value that can be insured. Did you read the T&C's?.
