  1. Thanks for all the pointers there is a few things for me too try now
  2. Used too trap quite a few as a kid and send the furs too cobbledick. Was lots about at the time I suspect its the same now
  3. Its not so much the size its the attitude and mink have a very bad one
  4. If you had ever seen a full grown mink in a cage trap you would know the answer too this one. I pray my ferrets never come across one
  5. If you can find a spot where there is a drop down too the rabbits retreat so your hidden from view as you lay the net ( I think the term is blind set not sure though ) that would be handy. Or a spot where the rabbits go through a small field into a bigger one so you have a hedge between you. I had a tidy night the other night when conditions were far from perfect with clear sky and no wind and I thought it would be a waste of time but it wasn't
  6. Just takes a bit of practice or ideally some one too show you failing that check youtube maybe. I use one and have no urge to get a quick set
  7. vary your lengths a bit a few nice short ones are ideal for tight spots in the hedge
  8. approach the nearest farm and if it is not there's they are likely too know who
  9. Used too follow the Carmarthenshire many years ago when Lyn was there followed by Trevor. I used too do the skinning for them. Met some good terrier lads from the valleys doing it too
  10. Surprising how far they travel from where you see them. Chances are when they hop in the cover they are going a fair old way or just sitting out in the cover unless pressed too ground
  11. The wife keeps banging on about Skirlie but proper oatmeal is as rare as rocking horse shite down here and live yet to try it.. Going to try the health food shops next time I'm in town, tried everywhere else.. They had some in aldi the other day
  12. I would take your time and get a well bred pup when your ready and learn together
  13. Nice read that I love the look on the ferrets face when the dog waltzes off with his rabbit
  14. Don't worry about the post good read would very interested in the recipies all ways on the look out for some thing too try
  15. I take it you don't have a dog ? like me in which case it is a struggle but keep at you will hit gold at some point and it is well worth it then. As you say just 1 rabbit is a big success I had this one the other weekend after doing about 7 empty sets of holes made it all worth while
  16. very true my ESS would thrash a bowling green if asked with as much pace and drive as if she were in a covert, whereas my cocker only really becomes alive on scent That is very interesting we have a show bred cocker who has been a house dog pet for 5 years of his life. Having recently got back into field sports I have swiped him off the wife now again to hopefully help me and also make his life more interesting. I was very surprised that he has a natural hunting instinct or how much he has rather. If I say where is it boy and point him to a bit of cover he starts zig zagging about and
  17. Looks nice beef shin would be good for that cheap too
  18. 20. Ok thanks I will give it a try. Thanks for the tip about the rabbit too I do have a habit of over doing that stage of the cooking
  21. After a bit of googling seems paste is the way too go. Quite like the look of this one http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Scottish-Rabbit-Curry-395254
  22. Can any one help with a rabbit curry recipe please. I am an ok cook but never been able too do a nice curry. To get the rabbit tender I guess I would pressure cook it or slowly boil but once I have the meat what's next. Don't really want too use any thing out of jar but don't want too spend 20 quid on spices in tesco either. I do all ready have a fair collection so chances are I have most things. Thank you
  23. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. Depends on the spot and also weather I think. Staying up and going at 2 am might not benefit you any more than nipping out at 8pm. My prefered time is 9-10 pm but that is just so I can be tucked up in bed by midnight Not very helpful I know
