  1. Get yourself set up with a stem injector then you won't be tied to weather conditions.
  2. Noticed a couple of days ago, scared me I thought it was attacking my computer not the site.
  3. Depending on the size of entry could be an otter, they often eat the meat from the back legs, guts and back leaving the head, shoulders and front legs. I have found them killed and stashed in clumps of reeds at the side of our pond with some eaten as above.
  4. Having calls for wasps, all have been Mining, Mortar or other types of bumbles so far. Give advice to leave them be (pun intended). I am seeing queen wasps chewing on garden furniture, sheds and fence posts as I bimble about the place.
  5. I do a set price for set up and pick up, if I need to do a 3rd vist they get charged half again, if I have to make more visits they pay no more and it is Personal between me and the mole. This doesn't happen often but can get emotional if the little blighter is set on making me look a fool. What I do find at this time of year is that regular customers gardens and small areas, that I have already done earlier in the year or back end of last year call with '1 or 2 hills that came up last week'. I tell them that I can do the visits but it may be it is a male out looking for love that may have mo

  7. I have 5 Kania`s they are bloody expensive, but do the job + humanely. But twice I have had the traps at ground level with the approved safety cage, & both secured to a plank of wood, only for a hedgehog to get through the small square opening, turn right angle and walk into the trap. I now place the traps above ground on a couple of bricks to help prevent this happening again I have had Hedgehogs on a couple of occasions over the years,(hate killing them - I know there can be issues with ground nesting birds) it is amzing how small a gap they can get through, about 20 years ago
  8. Have you had any issues regarding the nozzle getting blocked when pushing it into the nest? and if so is it easy to rectify or do you need a petrol garage tyre air hose to clear. I seem to remember that you do!! I have not had issues with nozzle blocking when pushing it into nests because it is such a rare occurrence. Typically you only get to treat an access point and even if you stab a nest there is not much to block a nozzle. I do occasionall suffer with powder that clumps and blocks but keep a golf ball in the DR5 to combat that. However if you are foolish enough / irresponsible and s
  9. XL8 and the DR5 are a great bit of kit, it gives the nosey clients a bit of theatre as you get it all together ( this is a bit of a faff until you get into a routine) and they think they are getting value from your service. They come into their own when you have a nest over a conservatory or a hip on a roof that would need scaffold or mewp to reach.. Just need to pray for a good wasp season - we must be due one its been more than 5 years since we had a good one. T
  10. Hell, those French moles must get up some speed if you need to slow them down with a speed bump so they don't pass through a telpex after hitting the trigger and before the jaws can close.
  11. The local hunt kennels take fallen stock and often have waste bins that go for incineration/rendering You can see if they will take your waste and give a docket for the paper trail. It will cost but shouldn't be too expensive. T
  12. I don't want anyone to stop, particularly if they:- enjoy it, do a good job, but most importantly put a 'real' value to the trapping of the mole. If someone does do it for permission or cheap for a bit of beer money and the challenge what happens when you give up or circumstances change and they don't go shooting/ferreting. Or they come to their senses when they get nagged by their clients when they have problems with moles when it is hosing down with rain, the frost is biting and cracking their fingers and think what am I fannying about with this for buttons. The landowner rings around f
  13. My gripe with all the new mole trappers from these courses is that they are not earning a living at it but are just creaming off work from those of us that rely on Pest control for a living and are out in all weather year after year. Some clients hear of these newbies and how they are cheap, and can't resist saving some money. We pros know that it is short sighted and that these guys work the easy areas leave any tricky moles and disapear taking the cash, as they are not relying on the money for mortgage and overheads its all beer money. Just as bad are some that do it for permission - some c
  14. Thanks Clive, Courier dropped mine off today. Oooh the anticipation of getting them set up and trialling them on some fields and gardens where I barter goods and services in the village, before unleashing them on paying clients. Talpa
  15. You could try sticking the bird of prey silhouettes like you use on windows to keep small birds from flying into them, Could you use the fire gel products to dissuade the crows from settling on the cills. May be on iffy ground to trap or shoot - check the general licence conditions. You may be able to alter the mirror effect on the window by having a light close to the window on the inside.
  16. Hi, Could I have 30, and a spare setting tool please. many thanks.
  17. Once dry, Ficam W has very low risk to any occupants of a premises be they human or animal. It sounds like you used a profesional pest control company as they have given good advice as well as leaving a data sheet. Hopefully they spent some time trying to locate the trails of ants and followed them back to treat the source of the ants at the nest, which would give the most effective result. If you think about the spray, a powder is disolved in water (usually 1 sachet /5L), the spray should have been light and concentrated in the areas that the ants were trailing, so only a small volume would
  18. Will you have the same problem with respirator cartridges too? I haven't used it for a long time and have decided not to do the new nvq unless we see real potential to get earnings from its use.
  19. As long as you look after it (xl8) and service your dr5 they knock spots off the dust stick imho. We have the original and the xl8. The customer gets a bit of theatre as you set up and treat- everyone likes to see bits of kit being used, makes them think they are getting their moneys worth.
  20. It could be that when you pump it up the action causes the powder to settle and almost becomes solid, when the powder settles the uptake tube sucks powder from immediate vicinity but causes a hole in the powder around the uptake tube limiting the delivery of your insecticide. It often helps to pump up, then shake it to loosen powder. I think its Killgerm reps that recommend putting in a golf ball to aid the break up of the settled dust. I have found that even walking from the vehicle and climbing the ladder can cause the dust to settle and reduce the flow so often shake the tank (carefully -
  21. We screen calls as best as we can before going out, asking what, where, etc and then if we go to a job - ' defo wasps I know what they are' we charge as we are a business and need to cover costs at least and hope for a profit. I have been stung by Tree Bumble Bees whilst trying to get them a stay of execution, the buggers can multi sting like wasps as the sting isn't barbed. We have moved a lot of Tit Boxes with Tree Bumbles where people wouldn't leave them bee!
  22. The US traps have a smaller jaw spread and tine length. I had some samples from Steve Albano when he first started to send them over, he sent some us models and some bigger spread ones for European moles. At first I didn't really see any difference in catchs but then had some miscaught moles and scrapped them . If the European size traps are used they should perform well. I had my first foul caught mole in a long time on Fri, caught by right paw and snout- I think he had snensed the trap and reversed a little and started to back fill, from his purple caught paw he had lived a nd struggled ali
  23. I'm the same as you about payment, it always gives me the jitters if they even offer to pay befor eI'm finished. If they are not there for the last visit I tell them to put a cheque in the post or bacs it..
  24. I am sure that the air movement through the tunnels is more likely to alert the mole than changes in O2 conc. ? But it is probably as well to get the job done as quickly as can be done well.
