  1. The collarum has a relaxalock, other locks on the protrapper site are also said to be relaxing. Never used the micro lock but have experience all be it limited with others and have found them to do as it says a nd allows the noose to slacken off when the animal stops fighting, which in the majority of cases they do, simple cause and effect learning. 2. I have not used them against Dogs, but as per my other post if she is a tall dog and gets her feet close to the bait and then reaches down the loop may not go over her head and catch her properly, without seeing the dog and situation it is difficult to advise. If you do a couple of dry fires with the trap you can assess the way it throws and tightens the noose, think about how the dog would be positioned compared to a fox for which the trap is designed and make an adjustment as you think is needed. If it is a tall dog I would raise the trap on a mound or side of a hedge bank. Difficult to exp

  4. Looks ideal Thanks. Any UK stockists or chaps with experience using one? Hi, I agree with JohnB, a collarum would be ideal as you already have her feeding, you can get them from Magnum Trap Co ad is in long netting section/sponsors I think or http://protrapper.co.uk/collarum.php, you would need a slightly bigger loop than for fox and as its a lurcher and probably tall would need to set it slightly more raised and tilted than the generic instructions ie a hedge bank and make sure she can only reach bait by being directly in front of the trap and that nothing can tangle the wire ie stakes,
  5. I did notice in your picture Steve that the mole had NO digging implements (nails) to it's front feet..........just thought this was unusual to see as it could certainly dig ok judging by the hills it had thrown up. They are quite unusual to catch over here these Apricot or Golden moles..........but they do turn up from titme to time, they are just colour variations of the normal species. Rolfe, the nails/claws are just not visible due to the angle of the shot and the colouration, the placement angulation with the wrist is different to our UK moles, if anything their nails are bigger in
  6. I have used a set up in just a wire 4 sided tunnel, my woodwork is poor, yours will be great where set outside as you won't get a carcase and fluffy tail wafting on the breeze when you get your target so keeping the natives happy and blissfully unaware. I did try a nut holder for the trigger too but could not get it to sit properly, I now drill hazel or walnuts and push on the wires, dog biscuits smeared with peanut butter or chocolate, monkey nuts in the pod too for Squirrels, bird fat balls worked but they tend to crumble and you risk a miscatch but a modified holder like yours would probabl
  7. Try stepping away from the current activity after you reset your traps in that area. They are coming from the surrounding area somewhere, check hedge and fencelines for activity and have a nose over the neighbouring properties, set a couple of traps where you can find runs. The runs they use to get to the problem you have tackled may be deep and don't throw soilto form a hill because they are age old runs that new moles that reinfest just take to using. (god knows if I had to work as hard as a mole I would look for an easy option.) Reinfestation will always happen, sometimes directly a resi
  8. Hi Steve, The import vat was 15% at the time, it will rise to 17.5% at the end of the year I think. As I remember there was an import duty of 3.5% on top. This is charged by the Courier on collection to be payed to the Govt. As with all UK tax issues there are numerous levels and circumstances that trigger. Below a certain value 'gifts' escape being taxed. To understand all the rules you need to be a Chartered Accountant. The jaw spread of your US trap seem to work fine with me with no noticeable difference in catch/dig under rate that I can tell. As Trappa says they are not great in loose
  9. I have had these traps for around 12 months and they are great, as Trappa says. They are simplicity itself to lay, though setting them to begin with is a little tricky until you look at the instructions properly! They are the ONLY traps that I use that require no 'tuning'. The build quality is flawless, with consistant trigger firing, no burrs or twists. They are expensive as they are SS, cost of P+P, tax and the exchange rate is against us, but they will last forever. They are the easiest trap for anyone to catch moles with having no prior experience, and just a little tuition. I
  10. Hi its a Longworth trap, used for catching small mammals eg wood mice, voles, shrews. If it is a woodland trust, wildlife trust it is likely that someone is doing a survey to establish what is about and guage how many are about as part of a monitoring programme. They are a good research tool. They are always baited and provide bedding to feed the capture and reduce the stress to the animal as 90% of the time the animals are released after id, measuring, and marking to show if the animal has been caught before9 sometimes the attraction of good food and a nice bed can mean the individual gets
  11. the clue was in the title "best bait for live trapping foxes Stubby, your man is describing a foot hold set, not legal in UK but interesting all the same. Much controversy over foot holds but there is lots of pro propoganda on the www. to counter antis in the US which show many releases where the target animal is released and hurtles away showing not the slightest limp or carrying a leg.
  12. Unfortunately most of the posts on this thread are so typical of the information gathered and used by OUR enemies. So many threads are now posted by children, oddballs and the criminally insane. I would not be overly concerned by Cats, if you have a tall fence or electric fence that will be adequate. There will always be other predators about that will take your birds and worrying about one cat is missing the elephant in the corner of the room. I have birds ranging within a 75m elctric fence and often outside it. There are many cats that frequently pass over my land and none have ever ta
  13. Hi, just drop them an email with your details and anything you want to advertise eg area covered , additional services and they will put it on the find a molecatcher area. Mine was done very quickly. Excellent service considering there is no charge, so even a single job is a bonus. Talpa
  14. thats an idea. i`ve got some alphamax 1ltr soluble sachets and there pretty good, how residual are these water soluble type chemicals? The effectiveness over time is dependent on a whole range of exposure to physical and environmental factors, ie the type of surface it is applied to, heat, sun, rain, abrasion etc. Most Pesties have their favourites that they rely on from habit and their perceived successes, where in certain situations a different formulation would be better they still persist in the reliable 'old freind' Breaking down sachets is opening yourself up to problems both
  15. Hi, you need to use it pretty quikly as it settles. The powder will form a layer in the bottom of your spayer and it sometimes sets like concrete and is a devil to get out, causing more grief and blocked filters and nozzles that will plague you on subsequent spray jobs. The tubs are v. pricey but worth it if you use a lot of it, I would only mix a sachet where I know I can use it all or spray off a very small amount. If smaller jobs use a different formulation/product. Regards Talpa
  16. Hi. I have some that I use. They are great, once you get used to setting them. You need to get the knack of priming them, and bedding them. They are expensive and you get hit for import tax, you need a pair for each set but they are great tool. I have given some to a friend who hasn't had any success withscissor or dufus and he is no addicted to catching moles. Regards Talpa

    Docking!

Hi, can anyone provide contact details of any vets in Derbs., Staffs.,S.Lincs that will still dock workintg terriers. Previous practice now wont dock and a litter needs to be done next 2 days. Many thanks Talpa.
  19. I have National hives and have had a couple of good years but lost the bees overwinter (poor summer and too much Varroa), and have not managed to get swarms this year. It is fascinating watching them, and oh so nice having something else that you (they) provide for yourself. I would strongly recommend having a look here - http://www.biobees.com/forum/forum-3.html They have much excellent advice, there is a hive you build yourself without too much skill neeeded and simplifies Beekeeping, with a slant to the more natural approach. Chandlers book is worth getting too. His whole ethos seems to

    Sick Artist

THIS WILL TAKE A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME AND WILL SAVE A CREATURE – AND HOPEFULLY REMOVE THIS SO-CALLED 'ARTIST'!!! Hi all, this is a very serious matter... I recieved this email today which included pictures of the "installation", but I am not computer wise enough to get them up. you can view it on a blog -- http://guillermohabacucvargas.blogspot.com/ It may upset you!! This is the bones of the email. In the 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, he tied him to a rope in an art gallery, starving him to death. For several days, the 'artis
  21. Have a look at http://www.alanaecology.com/ they do all manner of conservation based kit, probably best selection in UK and have really good customer service. Stuff is pricey but difficult to source a lot of it elsewhere. You will want lots of bits and bobs after looking through the catalogue. Regards Talpa
  22. Even possession of Cymag now is likely to see you in court! It was never cleared for use against anything other than Rats and Rabbits when it was available. Talpa
  23. Try covering the traps, G/Sq will go into dark spaces Jays don't usually, but if hey take your bait - Monkey nuts change it to something that does not attract them. Try a smear of Peanut butter. Most cage trap situations benefit from being covered with grass, twigs etc.
  24. Hi, in a thread a little while ago changes to the open general licences in Scotland were discussed. As of tomorrow the new licences will come into play. Anyone north of the border will need to read and understand each licence under which they operaate and take the actions that are prescibed. As was suspected Tags will have to be attached to all bird traps and the coding given to the local Wildlife Crime officer of the local police authority prior to use. So anyone currently using Larson, Ladder, Pigeon, Sparrow traps will need to disable them until they have tags and can confirm the WCO offi
