  1. ket what we call bits of food ie bodies bones etc ,if theres ket outside a fox hole we mean left overs ,old kill, bones etc just (rubbish) what theyve eaten so our ket was old carcasses of hares and rabbits but could be out what they eat ,its probably a northern name ,as when we were kids our parents said all you ve eaten is ket today meaning rubbish ie sweets, candys etc etc
  2. we ve seen nothing about mate untill the kets gone last week ive been lamping quite a bit with a keeper and seen nothing theres a few holes been dragged out lately but look piggy , so thats why i wanted something to attract them to see if its red or black n white
  3. ive a howa 1500 thumbhole sporter ,i cant fault it mate i use 90 gr saka soft points and find it very accurate a little heavy with the thumbhole scopes nv and bi pod on lol but ive not got a quad to adapt for gun rest im just a little part time user
  4. the 2nd idea was to get a shot at the culprit if its legal quarry ,i just wanted somewhere were they can get an easy meal but without stealing it and running off ,if this is a poor idea how deep shall i dig the hole so i can get a shot off
  5. hi all had some ket disappear this week all in same night in and around 600 to 800 yrds ,ive read about different types of set ups ,i decided to set a area up with 4 posts and stock netting with 1 entry on each side like a few said works ok its situated 70 m from our high seat and at the side of our wood and cover crop so tracks already made by quad have made nice runs towards it ,when do i snare the area ??? do i bait up for a week or so 1st ???? also 120m from the seat ive sunk a frame with 2" mesh over the top so the cuprit cannot run off with the bait ,its only 3" deep so they can
  6. deker it was just out of interest what people can do with a gun if you or anyone doesnt want to comment thats fine but others like me maybe intereted of the capabilities of both gun and hunter ,deker thats what i was asking for experiened hunters to share and it is no way a dog vs gun thread as i have both and enjoy slippng my dog more than taking the gun out alsone yes its a longest kill thanks for been on the right track cheers
  7. i stated for experienced guns to tell me their capabilites not mine and i stated kill shots not wounded i know many keepers who shoot regular 200m etc but some people are better than others as with all different aspects of life im glad were all not the same life would come to a stand still and get boring
  8. only a fooking idiot would ask such a question only one would reply with a comment like that T.C and its not top cat
  9. whippet whys that other people ask whats the longest youve slipped a dog ,what range have you dropped a pheasant im interested in the capabilities of good marksmenship not interested in wankers who post non topic nonesense and you are probably more of an idot than i am as i only reply in topics i read and enjoy and not slag other posts off
  10. andybhoy and ar177 thanks for your replies ,funnily enough i just paced out some cover crop to get it fenced off from the dog walkers and that was 330m approx so i can put the shot youve taken perspective thanks for your input
  11. toby i never said it was clever i meant a honest report which circumstances come to those who need to take long shots ie lamp shy etc ,and duncan your comments are what i didnt want i wanted people with experience to tell me how they shape up in the field out of interest and you sound like youve not got a cock to measure a honest thread for people who want to show their capabilites of which ive asked for not your bickering or sarcasm
  12. to all you very good experienced shots i would just like to know your longest range kill ,im not looking for daft and silly comments and dont feel big headed i would like to know im very inexperienced and not a real long range confident shot ,so im just asking , any gun any calibre and any quarry (but has to be a kill not a injured animal ) thanks gibbo ps mine is 125 yrds .17hmr hare (head shot) 120 yrds .243 fox (engine room )
  13. the crack of the hmr is only loud at the muzzle end to the shooter holding the gun , you get a mate to stand 10 to 15 yards away(out of sight obviously) from a target and the shooter say fifty yrds from the target and when the round hits the target is sounds like a cap gun kids used to play with, you cannot hear the muzzle energy from the target area , ive shot many rabbits and hares which are only yards from each other with out the noticing the sound or friend been killed.
  14. my very 1st lurcher was a lurcher to lurcher stuff with beddy grey ,deer grey in her mix and was a nasty game little bitch at 23 " she had a heart of a lion in the field and did roe quite well (its the only species ive come across) but she was a arse ender then slipped up to the neck and hold really well ,her kennel mate a not sure of her breeding but 25 " racey type with bull,a dash of saluki and grey in her only guessing that because of her looks ,she again did roe easy but was a arse ender only so meat damage was excessive ,i had a whippet x bought from norfolk from coursing stuff she could
  15. lol its a piss take i know its open forum but boils my pesh lol stellas good but its down to 4.8 so westons it is cheers lol
  16. ive been on this site for a few yrs now , and all i get is ive a black dog no no no you havent my dogs blacker than yours , its so bitchy yes we all THINK we have a world beater but each to their own , ie ferreting, coursing non uk lol teeth etc every dog has a job so why do many people critisise other breeds when they dont like them and say my dog can do that ive never had a allrounder yes pre ban rabbit hare fox deer, but not marking to ground keeping from nets running long nets the list is endless id love to see some of the dogs you work and class them as GREAT im not slagging
  17. i was asked today by a young lad what age can he apply for a fac ???? i got mine about 5 yrs ago when 34 but i could nt tell him off top of my head embarrassing i know but rather ask lads than google uk based thanks
  18. this is my 1st of this x ive read bills book working deerhounds and their x's and the pics in there they all are similiar in looks in general i think people are talking about their offsprings ,probably are predictable but so is the x as the % of smooths and parti colours are few and far between mate
  19. all our dogs were rough coated black in colour with white toes a tip on tail size roughly 26 " to 30" i think they are stating that if you breed a deer with grey you get the f1 and the are similiar and you roughly know what to expect from a f1 ,as with beddy 1st xs youcan say before they are born what you going to get with this type of 1st x ????
  20. think that vid was from foxing wih lurchers can be bought on bay , think theres 3 dvds now ??? theres collie, greyhound and foxhound in their make up ive seen the 1st one and it tells you the make up of the dogs but thats all i can tell you ,i dont think there 3/4 bred like ?????
  21. set two mk 4 traps where i originally had the 1st 2 taken i baited with raw sausage and chicken strips tied down with my daughters hair bands and today ive nailed 2 stoats ,i 'll re bait tomorrow and wait again ,weve put some english partride down last year so want them to suceed so i may be busy trapping the little feckers lol thanks for your inputs top tips cheers gibbo
  22. i do a lot of sea fishing what do i need to plug a few seals whats the licence i need if any ??????????????
  23. today ive checked my other maggie which is 1 mile away this one also been killed this time its been killed and the culprit has entered from the bottom mesh and tried to dragg it thru the bottom only succeeding its head half way thru ,again head eaten ie brain and left rest ,ive just baited 2 fenn s inside the one trap and outside of the other , ive baied my live trap up with chicken and been activated twice now but no culprit ,guess its smaller than 1" diameter the little shit , ive covered the live trap up with tight mesh but need some 1" gaps to set it with y hands so fenn traps hopeful
  24. prefer to be rusty looking as if you put it in farm yards next to old machinery it does stand out like sore thumb even the one i bought i got it sandblasted to take the bling off it 2" x2" s ideal
