  1. Hi, can anyone tell me the best diest and excercise to build up muscles gradually on a young dog? My pup is 8 months old, and we have attented a few shows in the past couple of months, entering her into the under 6 month puppy section, and when she went past 6 momths the overs, the thing that struck me the most in both catergories was the size of muscles on all the dogs competing even in the under 6 months they had fair size muscles in the back halfs, makin my pup look very puny,at first I did think some peeps might have been cheating and entering older dogs, but they were too many

  4. Hi, can any one point me in the right direction in getting a club or race meet for a young lurcher of 7 months, now the showing season is comming to an end, would like something to do for the winter months, and the pup loves to run and would like to get her introduced to racing. I live in Northants area, and would be willing to travel up within 50 miles radius of that area, can any one point me in the right direction please how I would go about it. Woodys Mum
  5. Hi, is the showing both days, or just the lurcher finals on sunday and showing saturday:) Woodys Mum
  6. Had a look the agenda, it mentions lurchers/terriers classes etc, but no times, or what time or day the lurcher showing starts, been through it with fine tooth comb and cant find anything mentioning these, any one in the know? woodys Mum:)
  7. Have heard there is a country show at Redbourn Herts this weekend, and it is including a show and racing for lurchers as part of its event, does any one have any info on times and days of the lurcher show, or any other information about it. Woodys Mum
  8. Are more Lurcher shows introducing new classes for the under 6 month pups(obvioulsy with innocualtions etc), I have seen a couple of shows do this and wondered if more show organisers were going to adopt this class. I know this class would just be for fun and wouldnt be able to tell too much about the pub except general health, but it would get it socialised at quite a young age in regard to being handled and walked around on a lead.as an owner of a young pup who would it would usually not fit the usual 6 month and over until after the summers over, would be interested in knowing if the
  9. I still remember the old lurcher/terrier shows back in the eighties, when it was an interlude in the summer for working dogs to have something to do and for people to meet up and chat and compare notes etc, it was also mainly small events little local clubs that held these shows for small profits and the social interaction. Now it seems to be hijacked by the big country fairs, that charge extortinate prices to attend, then you still have to pay for your dog to be shown etc, I think the demise of these small freindly meets has put more emphasis on the showy type of lurchers, and a differe
  10. Hi does any know if Phil Haynes still breeds puppies, and has he got a web site address, I could contact him on if he does, I beleive he breeds whippet/Beddlington types, has any one had one of his dogs and could put up pictures of them please , be keen to see what they look like
  11. Can anyone tell me the times and days of the lurcher events at kelmarsh pls, cant find it on the site info ty
  12. The one thing u can try as well is tidbits, e.g. treats, meat etc, dont shout at the dog even though u feel like killing him, praise him when he does come back and feed him a treat, he will associate recall with something nice to return to, and everybodys right, he will grow out of it. on the subject of male/female, does any one else find male dogs easier to get clean day and night then bitches, dont know if its a co-oincidence but always find dogs a lot cleaner earlier then bitches, especially at night.
  13. Ok, he just wants a smallish lurcher for rabbiting with ferrets etc, but we have heard that the beddlington type can be a bit prone to fighting and once provoked never gives in,so with small dog and cats it might be a problem. as epecially as the yorkie can be a bit prone to snapping.
  14. My freinds husband wants to get a lurcher, nothing to large, and it has to be of sound nature as family has two children, a yorkie dog and 2 cats, is there a specific type of lurcher cross that seems to have a more placid disposition than a lot of others, more tolerant but can still cut the mustard, can any one recomend a type please or perhaps more than one type just to give us an indication which to go for please.
  15. If thats the basis of your argument..then why have different classes for terriers eh? could go on but imo its a pointless thread goin nowhere..atb stabba but you still replyed to it Stupidity on my part ...sometimes its hard not to get sucked in to some of the more outlandishly silly unthought out reply,s  More like you like the sound of your own type and need to be noticed lol
