  1. FFS.... Don't get it mate. If you have an issue Id rather you pm me than ruin the thread. Pat
  2. That was the plan really in getting the kids involved. I am going to take them with me as I already have a couple of permissions which come the new season should be pretty well stocked up. lol. Even if we don't take decent sized bags I just want to get the kids off of the computer and tv, this should be exciting enough for them I reckon.
  3. Hi Guys After lengthy discussions with my wife she has finally agreed for me to get some kits. You will normally find me posting in the lurcher or terrier section as I am also awaiting the construction of a concrete base and outside kennels for housing the dogs, this has now been delayed due to the fella doing the work having to much on till the end or late summer. I don't mind though as he is family (and doing the work for pretty much cost). Anyway, I did a little ferreting back in the 90s and always wanted to get back in to it but have just never really managed to get around to it. I am a
  4. I think that where there are often plenty of dog men living in these areas carrying on their traditional way of life, often tend to be historically high in unemployment. Not because the lads that live there are scroungers but because the world has moved on from what it used to be and their industry has left them with little or no opportunity to find other decent employment. I am talking about places Like the north and Wales where a few decades ago their whole community and their main source of income was perhaps mining or quarrying.
  5. I almost fell off my chair when I read the title, cracked me up. I definately know what you are saying though, I have a full time office job and three young kids with all the demands and time constraints that go with it. I think that if you really want to have a well trained dog or dogs then you have to be brutal with your time and manage it well, hopefully people getting a running dog will know what they are letting themselves in for, I know I didnt when I first started out. As for being on the Dole or spongers having well trained dogs, I expect its like all things and is down to the individ
  6. Cheers for the helpful reply. This was of course my first port of call but I wasn't sure if they were just trying to sell me a load of kit that will end up making a nasty brew. I thought that a site with this many members would have a good amount of experience in brewing and might be able to point me to a decent site. Come on fellas, I just want to know how to get hammered on the cheap with out resorting to meths again! lol Cheers Pat
  7. Hi guys I want to start brewing my own beer and I just don't know where to start, I have never done it before at all. I have looked on some home brew web sites and have found conflicting advice and it all seems pretty complicated. Any tips and links to decent sites would be appreciated. I am not looking to make lager but proper ale. Also, I guess the big question, Is it worth the effort? and of course is it cost effective? All positive replies gratefully received. Cheers Pat
  8. I have the 1.5's and matching leads for my dogs. Although when I get the new pup I will go for a lurcher type from him. By the way, I am not on commission lol but I don't have money to chuck about anymore and I am a firm believer in buy quality, buy once. Hope that helps. Pat
  9. Nice looking stuff are they light? They certainly aren't over heavy but the workmanship and the materials are definitely heavy duty. I genuinely don't think you can find a cheaper alternative offering anywhere near this kind of quality. Do your self a favour and get an order together. You wont have to worry about ever buying them again. Pat
  10. Hi Mate, if you want high quality gear that you can fit and forget then Strong stuff kit is excellent and will probably out last your dogs! I don't know much about Gafer's offerings but some good lads on here like his kit and that is good enough for me. At the end of the day it all depends on personal taste, best of luck. http://www.strongstuff.co.nr/ Pat
  11. Yes mate, it has been a testing couple of years but I kept myself motivated thinking about the day when things would be a little easier and I could get back to spending time doing the things I love. I always try and remember no matter how shitty things get there is always someone in a worse position than myself. The past is the past and that is where it belongs, I am just grateful for a healthy family and the fact that I am in a position to get things going again. Thanks for all the advice so far, really interesting stuff, especially the mention of collie blood in a dog. Pat
  12. I was always told that anything with saluki in was a nightmare to train and very sensitive? Do you have this X Pat
  13. A lovely looking animal, does she work at all? as I was told they are supposed to make excellent guard dogs more than field work. Pat
  14. As the title says, I am about to start up with running dogs again after a break for the last 18 months as some of you may know due to my wife becoming ill during pregnancy and then my son being very ill when born. Both are back to full health thank goodness. I was then taken ill myself but have also made a full recovery. I had a deer/grey X whip which I adored but very reluctantly had to let her go due to the strain, promising myself that when I was ready I would do things properly and make sure that when the time was right I would build kennels and obtain a couple of quality bred dogs and fu
  15. Mate, I dont want to be rude but get him to a bloody vet to get looked over. From what I know, although I admit not a massive amount, if a dog is passing blood he needs looking at asap. If you sh*t blood do you go to a doc? Sorry to sound aggressive but the dogs welfare is the main concern. Pat
  16. Good vid Matt, looking forward to part 3. The music was much better, definately dont mind a bit of Ian Brown. You could also have gone for Cuts both ways by Gloria Estefan or anything by the Cutting Crew.lol. Pat
  17. Nice video Matt but can you leave out the Drum & Bass next time.lol. 15 years ago I was in to it but my ears cant take it anymore. Sh*t, I sound like my dad. Keep up the excellent work. Pat
  18. I had one from the previous batch with the blue acrylic handle, very sharp and of the highest quality. Worth every penny. Pat
  19. Matt, I received the blue handled knife this morning, the following day after ordering. All I can say is it looks even better in the cold light of day, a really lovely piece. As for the workmanship I am not sure where to start, its so sharp I cut myself just looking at it! Nice job, your reputation is well deserved. All the best
  20. Matt, I have PMed you, the blue one is a beauty, just what I am after. Pat
  21. I have read quite a few of his books and although believed to be laced with BS I still found them interesting and read them through to the finish as the info on the basics was a big help to a newbie who was looking to learn. Good or Bad we are still debating the fella and his books all these years on, I expect the argument will still be going long after plenty of us are dust! I think of them like a true story type movie, they usually have some sort of disclaimer that says some scenes may have been dramatised or imagined. take em for what they are, entertainment based loosely on the facts and
