  1. Tara is 1/4 kelpie only 22",, where as venus is half coursing dog, tara runs more like your typical collie crosses, i get them half way fit behind the motor,,, then just work for the rest of there fitness .
  2. i take a lot of rabbits mainly cos i fecking love doing it, and testing the dog,,, as it happens they go to a zoo hole for £2.20 each, they take what i catch.... even if i didnt have this outlet, ide still try and catch them i would do exactly the same Tomo as you say its great to test your dogs when the situation arises.
  3. another decent night there Tomo well done. i think this post is the catalyst for me to start straying further a field. i take it from your post your two dogs have different running styles, you said Tara would have been better suited for the ground. just out of interest are they of similar breed and are they both brought to there full fitness using the same method.
  4. nice pics. whippets are cracking little dogs
  5. 20 rabbits how many dogs 20
  6. i had a lurcher dog once when i was 14 that my father brought in for me, he would catch rabbits farely well on the lamp. he always caught the first rabbit and run down to the far end of the field from me and ate the head, every rabbit after that he would be fine with. i could never brake him of that habbit no matter what i tried but i was just a young lad then. good luck with your dog hopefully you can sort the problem atb trigger.
  7. my season has started o.k but to be honest there dont seem to be the volume of rabbits about i expected. there has been alot of mixy about round my area so i will have to go father a field.
  8. just got in had a visit from vin didnt turn out to bad a night with 20 in the bag found a well populated pocket of rabbits towards the end of the walk. looking forward to going back there on a good night.
  9. well done. wish the wind was up here just popped outside the house and theres no wind what so ever, its not looking to promising but i shall go out anyway.
  10. if you had a bull X a saluki X and a collie X all at the top of there game imo i would say the collie cross would put more game in the bag.
  11. grounds as hard as f**k round my way but i shall go out for a few hours need to keep the dogs ticking over and there fitness up for those decent nights when the opportunity of a large bag of bunnies is there.
  12. ive always had lurchers round me since the day i was born. had a interest in them and it carried on through to my adult life and long may it continue.
  13. i think they should put it back on the site.
  14. if someone happens to give one a try i would be interested to hear there thoughts on them.
  15. they cartainly look like they will do the job.
  16. had a steady walk today with bird. we got a early start in as it was forecast to be a warm day. it was good for my pup to socialize with some different dogs to what he is used to, all the dogs got on well and all in all it wasnt a bad trek except for the heat lol. heres a couple of pics. bryn the pack my pup and tod enjoying there selves one man and his dog my old dog retrieving a stick Tod and buster
  17. fair enough fella, how long you been in the game for then ? out of interest how long you ran then from pups from the start or did someone teach you lol heard you need to be very experienced to use this method lol pm if you like depends on how much you want from your dog
  18. true running single handed is the only way to see a dogs true potential. quarry runs different with 2 dogs on it and it dont always work in the dogs favour being doubled up as it hears two dogs before one and sets off earlier at times. they also do get in each others way at times an miss alot of quarry that a single handed dog would have been able to taken, then on the other hand they catch quarry that a single handed dog wouldnt be able to catch. theres alot of pros and cons with both methods
  19. imo its not always easier to catch things running doubled up. some dogs will push there self harder when doubled up and look good, but dont succeed very well as single handed dogs.
