  1. It's just a rebranded term for the natural food that dogs were fed for millenia before the recently invented extruded and highly preserved dried out pelleted food became available.
  2. Yes ''WATER CANNON THEM'' WITH.......................................................COW SPUNK Great oxymoron Topnotch
  3. Just displaying their own ignorance big e, I remember after me and a pal brought a couple of saluki x's over in the eightie's I overheard another friend remark at a game fair to his buddy, "Look what they're charging £200 for in England" as we walked by. When the season came in it was us who were bringing the hares home every week.
  4. These two Handcock bred collie lurchers were owned by two friends of mine in the 's. Tanner the red dog was 3/4 greyhound 1/4 beardie (sired by Jake) and Bess was 3/4 greyhound 1/8 beardie 1/8 border collie. Tanner was used in Ireland for hares and after about three seasons every toe on his front feet was pointing in a different direction, so it's not easy to predict how well a certain type of foot will stand the rigours of steady work just by looking at the shape of them when they start out. Bess's feet lasted longer but she was used mostly as a bushing rabbiting dog so was never going to suf
  5. i dont dispute what your saying mate, just seems to be leading the readers to believe that these types, with the current ban in place are no longer needed, which is obviously not the case, just how i read it thats all I haven't seen the article Watchman, but I agree with your point. Especially since Terry lives in Northern Ireland and did all his running in Ireland where there is no ban. The lads who are now running hares on the same land where Terry ran years ago are mostly using dogs with plenty of saluki in and their dogs are judged by what they can do single handed in the main.
  6. Terry's a friend of mine but he always has had an antipathy toward saluki crosses especially. Maybe if he had tried one and run it single handed, when he ran dogs years ago before he went full time with the falconry his opinion would carry more weight. Terry does approach certain subjects from a slightly skewed angle from the mainstream, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it can give the impression of accentricity. That said, he's a good lad and totally dedicated to his hawks, falcons and ferrets.
  7. Not forgetting the bitch who beat them both in 2000...Blondie.
  8. Mally's Vixen is my kind of whippet.....best looker I've seen on the net.
  9. One of the G's from Liverpool sold saluki x's back to the arabs years ago.
  10. Judge2010.....Who wrote that poem in your signature please?
  11. You speak for yourself Tomo......I wash my arse every Easter......whether it needs it or not!
  12. Oh I get it, they've developed this dog that can run at speed over long distances on some of the toughest, stoniest ground a dog can run on, for over 7,000 years but they forgot to select for good feet....how remiss of them!
  13. If you can't get a good recall with your Saluki/Greyhound don't ask what's wrong with the dog....ask what's wrong with your technique. I remember one of the top coursing men in the country telling me in the late 90's that he parted with a very well bred Bullx because it required a type of discipline that turned off his saluki crosses. Chastizing this dog to the extent that got him to respond, frightened the salukis too much. Fortunately Alan was astute enough to recognize the difference between the mindset of different types.
  14. Didn't Scotland ban hunting all mammals with dogs before the Hunting act was passed in England and Wales which allows rat and rabbit hunting in those countries?
  15. Looks like Nancies owner?? That ran up to Sniper in '97??
  16. My post was'nt aimed at you Cp. It was in reference to Whins statement that he prefers all round lurchers to 'one trick ponies'. Lots of people concentrate on one quarry species and in the case of coursing, one method of taking that quarry. It doesn't mean that the dog, whether it be saluki x, bull x or hardblood, won't take other quarry. But it doesn't matter so long as it does its own job well. Its hard enough to get an A 1 dog for hares without worrying if it will also excel at fox and vice versa. Thats WHY the types have diverged in the first place. Those interested in track racing wouldn'
  17. There's nothing wrong with a one trick pony. If you only hunt hares would you fault a 5 out of 5 in january dog because it wouldn't take fox? Or if you only hunt fox would a 5 a night bull cross be of any less use to you if it couldn't catch a daytime hare? Is a collie cross only an allrounder if it can herd sheep?
  18. Looks more and more like UKIP are the only party in the country that have any sense.
  19. " i might of been lucky but at the same time ive walked past literally hundreds of greyhounds in rescues that i wouldnt even think about taking home"
